I would take Wentz I don't think there's a significant dropoff form him to anybody here. The current Patriots are not exactly a QB haven we are bottom dwellers at the moment.
The only bottom dweller here is you

Ian, I am just discouraged by the Play of our Back-up OL I don't think anyone of them is worth a dam I really miss Scar. I hope Klemm is not a overrated Coach he was a injury riddled average player.
Could you show me a team that has lost it's entire starting O-line during a season? I think the most a team has lost is 3 starting O-line. Which basically decimates that O-line.
You need to look at the individual play of the O-line players. I've seen a lot of people complain about Chasen Hines in the game, but Taylor Kyles mention him as one of the bright spots pointing out that it was Hines hitting 3 different defenders on the run that got Harris into the end zone.

Now, maybe that's ALL Hines did in the game. If so, then it's meaningless. But putting him in there with Brown on one side and Dave Andrews on the other makes a world of difference.

With the new “emergency QB” rule, I think most teams will definitely be considering carrying 3. Cunningham could make the 53 and dress on game day, but not count against the 46 man active roster. The stipulation is that Mac and Zappe would both need to get “injured” and ruled out for him to enter the game, but it’s still a valuable safety net and lets him still be there holding the clipboard and learning. Over the course of the season, who knows, maybe he elevates to QB2. He would also be a depth WR and ST player if injuries hit those positions, and they could choose to activate him on some weeks as a gadget player if the game plan that week calls for it. There are a lot of little ways that keeping him makes sense, both short term and long term.

At best, Cunningham gets cut, they sign him to the practice squad, and elevate him at some point when players are injured and roster spots are less competitive.

No way I see them holding a spot for Cunningham over say a Calvin Munson, Sam Roberts, or whomever is the last player kept.

And no way someone claims Cunningham off waivers IMO. He's shown pretty much nothing after being undrafted.

The highest paid UDFA is paid peanuts in NFL salary terms... literally nothing.

Cunningham might get poached, what will they be missing if it does happen?

He's not a starting QB, he's not a WR. Big deal. He needs a ton of development to become anything.

You all bought the hype... and the hype train crashed and burned.

It's not insignificant that the Patriots paid him the most UDFA salary in franchise history because other teams were interested in him.

And as they always say, you can teach development, but you can't teach talent or trait.

But it's a reminder that a lot of the issues Jones dealt with last year were indeed real and went beyond people just making excuses for him.
Ridiculous take. How can you even start to compare Jones during the regular season to Zappe playing with 2nd/3rd/4th stringers?

I think this is correct. Using Cunningham with the new QB3 rule is OK, but he will have to wait until Wednesday/Thursday to make the 53 after someone else is placed on short term IR. Even then, I think Cunningham will be on the PS.

The concept of dealing with pressure applies, regardless of what string of player you’re playing with. It took almost half the season last year before their offensive line settled in. It’s absolutely relevant. The same can be said about anyone who wants to criticize Zappe entirely based on last night or based entirely on this preseason. It wouldn’t be fair given who he had in front of him. Albeit, it still wasn’t his best work.

People are forgetting Mac Jones 2022 and the fact that he doesn't look much better in 2023.
Off of 1 quarter of preseason football?

200K in Massachusetts, he'll see about 100K after taxes.

The Patriots have always valued UDFA's more than other teams and have repeatedly set the market by paying the highest amounts. It rises slightly every year based upon rising salary caps. It means nothing beyond they were willing to pay a little more to secure the player. With the amount of money we're talking they could cut him tomorrow the shrug off that money... it's nothing in the grand scheme of things... peanuts.

...It’s also interesting that it seems most “Zappe fans” are really Mac haters more than actually liking #4. This team will never crater on BB’s watch and get a top 3 pick in the draft so unless there’s another way to get a franchise QB here Mac’s our guy for now. This is what other teams go through in the league all the time.

I myself am a "fan" of good QB play and a "hater" of bad QB play.

Both QBs kinda suck, but Zappy should've started vs da Bears, where I think he would've done enough to merit the starts vs the Jete & Clots, two games Corky "won" despite being absolutely PUTRID in them.

That's as far as my being a Zappy "fan" goes.

They scored more than 21 points in 12 out of 17 games in 2021 -- 70% -- and were 7th in the league in points per game.
they also scored 54, 45, and 50 against 3 of the worst teams in the league in 2021. The offense was functional vs garbage teams but come nut cutting time they put up 17, 21, 24, 17 after the bye when it mattered.
Last season, overall, including THIRTY TWO FOLK! field goals, the offense ranked #17 the OFFENSE scored total of 31 touchdowns in 17 games, less than TWO a game. Field goals are useless in 2023, (sorry to offend FOLK! idiots). they had 19 passing tds (19th) and 12 rushing (#22). you think this is good enough?
For comparison, the lowly NYJ scored 28 touchdowns on offense, only three fewer than Bill the Coach's team. the only difference on offense is the coordinator, who seemingly loves sideways passes and screens as much as Matt Patricia.

Tough loss, with a few guys to keep an eye on ahead of the opener. Let's keep it here.

Our offense looked completely INEPT.

OL, WRs, RBs, QBs, whatever position you looked at was a disaster!

Then again I don't think we played any of our 'starters' so this looked like a last chance for 'bubble' players to stand out. But they collectively soiled their pants instead!

I'm not liking our chances against the Eagles given what we've seen. I just hope we don't get embarrassed on opening night. Eagles fans can be very obnoxious and they would love to RUB in a big win against us.
