You could name a lot of names. The 49ers traded a 2nd to the Patriots for one.
Again, based on his play on the field in what limited action he's gotten, he'll get an opportunity somewhere at some point. Obviously, whatever he does from there will be on him, but he's shown enough during the regular season action he's seen to prove he deserves that chance.
You know how it goes. Teams that are desperate at QB always do that with guys that flash, and Zappe appears to at least be as good as the two guys I mentioned. We've seen lesser guys get starting opportunities in the league. I would say Zappe - so far anyway - has looked better than many of the recent ones.
I'm not proclaiming him to be better than he is, which is why I equated him with Heinicke. Honestly, he's a guy that we probably wouldn't even be talking about had Mac not gotten hurt last year, yet, here we are. That cat is out of the bag and it's only a matter of time (even if it's a couple of years from now) before that shoe drops for him one way or the other. Whether it's here or elsewhere.
