There are plenty of options at free safety. There is no need to panic.
I agree.

Many have been suggested Mills, Jon Jones, Peppers or Dugger for months. Some had Mills as our future free safety from the day we signed him.

Before the draft, I think that most have guessed that it will be Mills or Jones.

Now some have even added Mapu to the mix.

BOTTOM LINE: We have many reasonable possibilities at free safety.

And yes, I trust the staff to choose well. In any case, I do NOT think that we have any relative roster weakness on Defense. IMO. all the potential weaknesses are on Offense: LT, RT, WR and QB.

Highly agreed!! Due the situation with Jack I'm assuming he'll be on the NFI list.

Mills likely will be asked to play in CB rotation as we are so deep at safety.. Unless boutee or someone else shows in camp they can hold up at outside corner.. I love Marcus, but not sure I want him at outside corner as he's undersized.. it's likely Jon Jones, gonzo on the outside and Marcus in the slot.

I feel like Dugger, Phillips and Peppers are the starters we normally go with 3 safety looks any how. Now Mapu is an interesting guy.. I like him at that LB position his speed and natural instincts would do wonders next to Bently.

Only question on the D is.. can they slow elite QBs and WRs this season?

Perhaps, after seeing him in every practice for 3 years, the coaches have decided that he is not a viable option for free safety.

Then he's not a viable option anywhere. Why did Bill even trade for him in the first place?

p.s.: Dugger should Not be considered a viable option at Free Safety either; he's a SS/WOLB.

I agree that Dugger isn't the best option at FS. His experience has all been at SS. However, given the need, I suspect that he has been given some practice reps at the position.

As far as Wade not being an option anywhere if he can't be a backup for us, there are often teams with weaker CB's than we have. We traded for him because Bill thought that he MIGHT succeed here. SO. Free agents don't always work out.

That's not gonna be good enough.
not good enough for what? to be the top 5 secondary in AFC?

I do agree that losing Jack Jones will have Bill out looking for an additional corner.

To be able to stop a good team's WRs when it matters. All you got is Gonzo & a bunch of Slot guys.

He should be looking for an additional CB even if he doesn't lose him.

Agree:
QB, RB, WR, OL, DL, LB

Disagree:
TE - I would add Firkser
ED - I would drop Jalopy Tavai, and add Jennings &/or Perkins
CB - I would drop Spaceman, and add Shaun Wade
S - I would drop Bedsore

And in a category all by itself, for the Special olympics Team "coverage aces" - what a ****ing CLOWN word to use for those ****ing stiffs, Lazar you ****ing toady - I would drop Sig Heilig immediately and then Schooler if I can get away with it.

Loved our CB corps with Gonzalez and Jack manning the outside spots, with everything else in between handled by Marcus and Jonathan.

Losing Jack throws a big wrench in that dynamic. Not insurmountable but certainly far from insignificant. Unit goes from maybe the best unit in the team, possibly a top 5 unit in the league to a unit that uses Myles Bryant.

Really hope Jack just gets a slap on the wrist, and behaves for the next three seasons on his quest for a big contract.

If we don't like Jon outside, then he should play FS and Mills should be outside opposite Gonzo.

There are probably at least a dozen more likely to be cut before Schooler.

Why couldn't they just list Matthew Slater as a Safety.
