Deandre Hopkins Visiting Patriots Next Week

Hopkins had the per game metrics of a top 5-7 WR. He had a 73% catch rate with Murray & McCoy. On top of it he’ll be motivated. Get it done.

So why did they cut him then? Could this be a Moss situation where the team wrongly thought he was washed up but still have one to two good seasons left in him?

I am all for Hopkins but it would be nice if our 2nd round pick receiver wasn’t at the bottom of the receiving depth chart.

With BOB I think we will have a lot of two TE. I can see Gesicki and Henry being targeted a lot. Juju will eat a lot of target two.

So how will Thornton get target with Hopkins, Juju, Bourne, Gesicki and Henry ? Can’t feed everybody. It could be another case if we are in year 3 and we still don’t know what our 2nd pick receiver is.
It's about that guy below who would thrive with a D-Hop outside.

Wonder what the odds are of him just signing in Tennessee and not having any other visits.

D-Hop would be foolish in that move the Patriots on Paper looks better than Tennessee with their recent additions. Tennessee's QB and WR situation looks way more shakier than the Patriots.

Who said he was at the bottom of the depth cart? My guess is he will be starting opposite Hopkins with Smith-Schuster in the slot if the Pats acquire Hopkins. And there are plenty of teams with two 1,000 plus yard wide receivers on their roster.

You are putting your speculations as facts.

I don't think some understands how a healthy D-Hop elevates our Offense. This Team with D-Hop Scores 27 with ease we will no longer be a 17 points Offense against good Teams. Our Offense struggled to pull it's weight last year it wouldn't with D-Hop in the fold.

I don’t think he’s washed up…just don’t want a cap hit greater than $12M or so

we have so much cap space that a 2 year deal would not hurt us really at all, even if he busted like Agholor did, the damage would be minimal but Hopkins is multiple tiers above Agholor in terms of talent

an elite veteran on the outside would really help out all the other WRs, including the young ones, and help Mac tremendously as well. Parker hasn't been able to deliver that for us, and Hopkins is tiers above him as well

Hopkins has consistently been one of the top WRs in the NFL every year of his career, with exception of his ACL injury recently and suspension.. but even after coming back from 6 game suspension last year, he immediately became Cardinals #1 WR and produced

Boutte and them can be put on IR to continue to develop, very unlikely a late round rookie WR, nevermind 2, would make immediate impact in year 1.

I'd actually be in favor of cutting Slater or another ST specialist to carry +1 more WR on the roster, because the position has been that dire for quite a few years now

My enthusiasm has somewhat waned after listening to Bert Breer this AM, DeAndre does not like to practice and as of right now he is not a great fit for this offense.. if there is an injury (there usually is) his value might increase.
If he was as good as advertised why didn't another team sign him?? Perhaps the amount of $$$ OBJ rec'd may have inflated the market to the points where that signing him would not be good value??

Preach brother preach people forgot that D-Hop almost put up Jakobi Meyers numbers in 9 games compared to Meyers 14. That shows how good D-Hop really is Mac will be one happy QB I tell you.

My response is not to you but to Beer he must be drinking again.

Side note: I was watching something recently about the Clemson teams with Watkins and Hopkins. My goodness was that a lot of talent at WR for a college team

Coach cap we are hearing good things about Thornton with D-Hop he would not be facing Elite coverage which he should be able to destroy with his speed we have a real OC now who will use him correctly.

Not aiming at you directly of course, but I'm not that interested in hearing about any of Billy's sketchy draft picks... The proof of the pudding is in the tasting, after all...

Not sure Clemson should be categorized as a "college" team.

Hopkins feels like a perfect addition. He’s not Randy Moss but he can still be a solid, experienced veteran #1 WR to help your QB that you’re still getting a feel for and who is on his rookie contract. He can get open and teams will want to double him, which leaves lots of space for your other WR (Juju would probably thrive with Hopkins) and your two receiving TEs or your single TE and third WR. Parker can be traded or cut to save most of Hopkins’ year 1 cap cost.

As good as Josh Allen is, he needed Diggs to shine and most Bills fans think he still needs another guy besides Diggs.

Nothing wrong with having a conversation. He makes the unit better. What they pay him and for how long he is a cap hit is the bigger question.

I'm OK with a lucrative, incentive -laden deal but a hard no on big-time guaranteed money.

Also worth noting beginning of next week is mandatory minicamp, so the Pats could theoretically sign him at the end of minicamp and permit him to skip it. He would be able to sit until training camp begins in earnest in late July.

NE has also been at 89 players rostered for a little while now.

He's at the bottom of the depth chart because that's where he deserves to be.

I like the double-TE look because of the versatility it brings; but... I'm concerned about its effectiveness here because neither Gesicki nor Double-H are very good blockers, at all. It wouldn't shock me to see fewer of those formations as the season progresses...

Mac & Bill can't worry about anybody's development right now; they need to win games This Year.

Now I'm curious to see how many of you are going to do a 180 if Hopkins signs with the Pats suddenly he won't be washed up lol
thats how it goes my guy

If Hopkins has something left in the tank, the Pats WR's as a group would be among the best in the division with Miami being the best and Buffalo or NY Jets as the worst. Overall pass catchers I'd put the Pats #1 as their complementary WR's (Juju, Bourne, Parker, Thornton) and two TE's put them over the top.
