Player Signing Patriots Showing Serious Interest in JuJu Smith-Schuster (Update: Done)

I don’t know what’s weird about it. Juju had a great TE drawing coverage and a hall of fame QB and his numbers weren’t much better than Jakobi. Meyers had a second year QB, no OC, TEs who disappeared, and no other consistent offensive threats around him and still produced reasonably well. Juju without AB as the opposite receiver has been pretty average and on top of it he’s annoying.
Myers was also the #1 option, while juju had to fight for leftovers

Loved the player in Myers, but this is a clear upgrade for same $$$.....don't discount his play in the run game, either

AB won't get in because he's such a tool but he was a HOF WR. By the time he got on the field with the Bucs I think he was at 75% of what he was in Pittsburgh where he was the best WR in the NFL 2013 to 2018. He could barely keep it together after that and he had to be heavy managed by teammates while in Tampa Bay. Arians couldn't stand him, never wanted him back, but he gave into Brady who was dreaming of getting the prime AB, which never happened, but AB was still good enough to contribute to a SB winning team. Arians had had enough of AB's antics during the 2021 season and literally told him to **** off. So that's exactly what AB did. In the middle of a game.

Like I said, he had some amazing years, he’s not a HOF WR.

We probably should all prepare ourselves for the idea that there's a good possibility the WR corps will be Parker/Juju/Bourne/Thornton in 2023.
Hope springs eternal. This is the year the Pats nail their WR pick in the draft. Super serious this time.

Lazard hasn’t produced close to what juju has, not has Meyers.
So we're strictly looking at numbers when it fits your argument?

Look, we know what Meyers looks like with Mac, in whatever offense they were rolling out over the last two seasons, and it was pretty solid. Juju is a bit of a headcase who's also had some injury problems. And he hasn't been the same explosive player he was since 2018. I like Lazard, he's a bigger target, and I think there's some untapped potential there.

As long as we let OC BOB pick his guy.

Antonio Brown is not a HOF receiver. He had a few amazing years, but he would have had to have a bunch more to be in the conversation. The waiting line at WR for the Hall is pretty long.
Lol what? He had 7 1000 yard seasons with basically 3 of them for 1500 yards+ putting him 24th all time. 21st all time in receptions. Tied for 25th all time in touchdowns. Basically he’s a top 25 receiver in NFL history. He’s easily a hall of famer and if he wasn’t such an F up off the field he would have been a first ballot guy.

That could end up being true, but he’s going to bring a bunch of WR’s to compete for those spots. How good they are remains to be seen ?

Honestly I think he should have done more in that offense. To me he’s about on part with Jakobi but he’s also an a*shole.

You could take Drew Bledsoe’s numbers and make a similar case, but Bledsoe wasn’t a HOF QB, and Brown isn’t a HOF WR. I don’t disagree that he had HOF talent, but he needed to accomplish more in his career era to be a HOF WR. And you are right, if he wasn’t AB, he could very well have given himself a career that would have gotten him in 1st ballot.

I’m fine with it. Makes up for the Meyers loss plus some, maybe.

I don't know what happened behind the scenes, but it smells like BB gambled again and lost.
They're almost the same player, and considering Meyers far better attitude and built-chemistry, Meyers was worth more to keep.
All this means is that BB was playing his typical cold-shoulder hardball, and Meyers called his bluff and left.
Then, the Pats got shocked (again!) and had to pay more than they wanted for the next best guy.
ANOTHER INEPT FUMBLE BY BB THE GM.

AB 2013-2018: 4x 1st team all pro, 1x 2nd team all pro, 6x pro bowl, 3x top 3 OPOY

AB had the equivalent of an entire elite career inside of a 6-year span. As it is he's still top 25 all time in receptions, yards, and TDs. And he has a ring. He belongs in the HOF as one of the best WRs to ever play the game.

Or it's Occam's Razor. The simplest explanation is that the Pats targeted JuJu and went and got their guy with panic not figuring into it in the slightest.

We aren’t going to be doing any contending this season, even for our division. So that looks decent as long as Bourne is free of the dog house.

Unfortunately the only real WR1 level option out there is Hopkins, otherwise it's OBJ who is a fringe 1 or a trade for Jeudy who's still unproven. I don't know. I'd almost rather just keep their current group and draft one of the really good TEs and see how it goes. WRs next year will be better. Spend your cap dollars on Orlando Brown.

Well, since you said so, I guess I won't bother watching any games this year.

Got any of the lottery numbers for next week? I'll split the winnings with you.

You think we have a legit chance beat out the Bills for the division?

Dude was All Pro 4 years in a row. He's certainly not getting into the HoF since he's AB, but imho, he's borderline if he wasn't borde...

They're some chaos going on in that organization right now. And both teams are...hold on, I'll check the standings...

...

0-0 right now and the draft hasn't happened, it's still anyone's division by my estimation.

But if you want to move on to 2024, be my guest.
