Rodgers in talks with Jets [UPDATE: 'It's my intention to play for the Jets']

This would be bad news for Bill, but light a fire to make major moves himself. Rodgers to the Jets instantly makes the Pats the worst team in the division.
.... ON PAPER, Rainmaker, ON paper! Football isn't won by teams on paper. They are won against teams made up of VERY good players. They are won by the team that makes the least mistakes on a given Sunday. They are won by the team that got a good call or a good bounce of the ball. They are won by the team that makes on or two more big plays.

I couldn't two ****s about WHO is first or last best team in a division in freakin' MARCH! God the thought of whiny fans kvelling all spring and summer about who LOOKS like the best team on "paper", makes me want to vomit.

Lets hope Bill builds THIS year's edition of the Pats to be deep and together, and we will win our share of football games. Then MAYBE we can get as lucky as the Bears who have a QB who lead them to the first pick in the draft.

How many times have the Jete won the off season? More than they've won the Lombardi trophy, that's for dammed sure.

In Aaron's mind, Brady and Watt would want to retire with him. He's a diva. Divas don't live in rational land where Brady is the GOAT and Aaron is going to be remembered as one of the good QBs of that era.

I can't see the Jets overtaking the Bills in the division and I also wonder if they'll fall into the "dream team" trap and underperform, prompting a wave of overreaction. Or he could eke enough wins for the Jets to get into the playoffs. I guess we'll see.

I think Rodgers wants his Hall of Fame induction to be all about him. Him being the big star. Everyone coming to see him. All the other inductees being far lesser quality inductees.

And if Rodgers play last year wasn't about his receivers and more about a decline, the Jets could end up competing for last place in the division.

Y'all have no faith in the Jete to Jete. They will 100% foul this up, either now or when he's a Jete. Once Jete, always Jete.

Now that they have permission to speak to Rodgers. I'm guessing the asking price is at least pick #13 plus others.

I'm guessing #13 and their 2024 2nd round pick.

I wonder how the JETE stank will affect Rodgers?

What’s the Jets obsession with washed up Green Bay Quaterbacks?

@patfanken is 100% correct that there is no guarantee that adding AR to the Jets will be successful. Regardless of what happens with other teams in the division, the Pats should follow their path to getting back to respectability by building a talented team as opposed to a collection of star players. If all goes well, following that process will likely mean that the team will be in the playoff hunt next year and be in the championship mix for a few years after that. Put me down as someone who is hoping that the Jets and Dolphins invest heavily in win now QB's to create a clear path to the division title for the Pats when when those teams run into LA Rams style hell in a couple of years. If nothing else, having AR on the jets and Lamar Jackson on the Dolphins will make for some entertaining football.

A Rodgers - a healthy Breece Hall and those Wide Receivers plus that already very good Defense. Yeah the Jets would be Contenders in the East Miami without a QB almost beat Buffalo in Playoffs the gap isn't that far for them.

On paper yes.
Depends how well Aaron plays

Agree but we know deep down the Jets are a decent QB away its not looking too good for us if that happens. I mean in the Division Tua is undefeated against us Allen owns us now Rodgers to Garrett Wilson dude got over 1100 yards without a QB that's scary. Honestly we can't look in the mirror and lie to ourselves and say Mac is on par with any of those QB's if they are all healthy.

Trying to be a Patriots fan is a painful struggle for you already without this nonsensical negative forecasting. Maybe you should look in the mirror and tell that guy to take a break. :)

Listen Rodgers is a very talented QB. But he IS going to be 40 shortly and doesn't seem to be the kind of monomaniac kind of guy like Brady was getting prepared to fend off time. So I believe the Jets, if they sign him will get a year or two, at best, of solid play from the QB position.

If we are going to play the "on paper" game, the Jets WILL be a superbowl contender, unfortunately for them they will be in the toughest division in the league, and in a conference FULL for superbowl contenders.

Now some have opined that Rodgers won't go to the Jets because the path to the superbowl is MUCH easier in the NFC. Well I don't think Rodgers is that interested in winning a superbowl. He'd rather win some games, gather some stats, and contend for an MVP. The guy's playoff record is mediocre at best. IIRC, his 4th quarter come from behind kind of drives that Brady had a million of, is putrid.

So if he signs with the Jets they WILL be better. They will be a very good team, with a great defense and very good offense. That's a fact. They will have ANOTHER off season, win like they have many times before. You cannot dismiss that they will be good, but win a superbowl? I very much doubt it.

I think at this point the Jete will feel pressured to make Rodgers an offer he can't refuse. They announced loud and clear after last season ended they'd be on the hunt for a veteran QB and can't come away from this sweepstakes empty handed. If Rodgers turns them down I'd see them go all-in for Jackson or Jimmy G.

According to Over the Cap the Jets are right at or slightly over the 2023 cap. Adding Rogers will force them to cut players or get them to agree to restructuring. They also have a big OL problem.
Sounds like a lot of problems to solve when you crap out on the #2 overall pick.

Let's not forget they crapped out on the #2 overall pick, after crapping out on the #4 overall pick, AFTER crapping out on the #3 overall pick. Three straight top five QBs taken, and they're staring down trading a draft haul for hopefully a couple years of Aaron Rodgers because NONE of them worked out long term.

Agreed, and although it will improve their chance of winning the superbowl in the next 2 years I doubt that it will put them over the top and after everything is said and done it most likely will reduce their chances of winning a superbowl over the next 5 years.

People not concerned about this are kidding themselves. Even if Rodgers is his meh 2022 version, that is potentially enough to make the Jets contenders. Zach Wilson gave away two wins to the Patriots last year, don't think that stays the same with Aaron. Every division game being not only a dogfight but a matchup the Patriots are likely to be underdogs in is awful. The Jets are the one team they've consistently dominated in the post-Brady era, I would very much like for that to continue.
Yeah. There's a lot of wishful thinking going on in this thread. We beat the Jets twice last year simply because Wilson is not a competent QB. If 25 other QB's were on that team those days, the Pats lose those games. This is a thing that definitely would hurt the Patriots and put them in a serious position to come in last in the division, which very likely means no playoff berth.

This is a huge negative and if Rodgers does stay on board for more than a year, a massive anchor around the Patriots hopes at the playoffs. We don't need another elite QB in the division. The Jets have a talented defense and run game. Rodgers makes them even a competent passing team and they become playoff caliber.

Now the plus side is that if you are like me and subscribe to the notion that we aren't likely to be a SB contender next year and will still rebuild for a year or two, we might be able to just ignore the arms race and build towards something more stable and be ready to compete once the storm breaks in the East. Which might not be a bad thing. Buffalo/Miami/NY might have start trying to one up each other during their window.
