PATRIOTS NEWS BoB officially back

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
Good, no more excuses for Mac.
Getting a competent play caller is a great step, probably the most important one.
But it’s clear we are in need of an improved OL and could really benefit from a #1 wr. As has been pointed out, we don’t have an impact target that the defense has to devote their scheme to containing.
This was a big box to check, but not the only one. Other QBs with poor OL or WR play don’t have “no excuses” just because they don’t have a DC calling plays.

I was at that game vs. Redskins and saw this happen live. Underwood rounded out his route at the back of the end zone allowing the defender to get in front of him and Brady threw a pick. Brady got on Underwood's case and BOB intervened. You can read Brady's lips yelling multiple times at BOB, "No sh!t!"

This is the best possible hire for determining Mac's future. We can only hope now that BOB has leeway to fill out the offensive staff.
IMO I don't think he would take the job unless he had full authority to make all the changes he wants on offense while playing within the Erhardt-Perkins system...and I think that goes for Mayo on defense. I think things are different.

Welp, not thrilled. But somewhat relieved.
All we can hope is that he's matured and been humbled a bit.
At least he's an offensive coach with playcalling and SB experience, and could innovate with recent college experience.
I don't see him lasting long here though, and that's frustrating. Oh well - on to 2023!

I think just the opposite we need BB still in full control. We don't want a scenario where BoB and BB aren't in agreement on staff and personnel.

Well, obviously BB will have to sign off on them but I don't see that as an issue. I was speaking in terms of BOB being given the tools he needs to maximize his program -- an experienced OL coach and other offensive position coaches BOB knows he can work with.

This is great news!
The complaints so far:
1. BoB must not be good because the Alabama fans are celebrating him leaving: This doesn't change the fact that O'Brien was the best candidate for the New England job and has had success as an NFL OC. Bama fans are going to complain anytime they don't win the title
2. BoB might leave to chase a head coaching gig next year: Man, I hope so! If he is in the running for a head coaching job next year, it's probably because the Pats are a top 5-10 offense. I would love to see that type of production this upcoming season. Now that they have O'Brien back they need to focus on someone on the offensive staff junior to him that will groom the next OC. Successful coordinators leave for head coaching jobs, and we want him to be successful, the Pats just need to have a plan for after he leaves unlike what happened last offseason.
3, Hiring BoB means that Kraft is exerting his will in a power struggle that will lead to Belichick leaving: This is 100% speculation, usually spread by people who prefer drama off the field to understanding the X's and O's of football, because it's easier for them to intuitively understand.

There are plenty more coaching moves that need to be made followed by roster moves but this is the best first step the offseason could take.

Maybe the Pats signed BoB to a three year contract with a non-compete meaning he's not going anywhere for the duration.

We don't know for sure.

Well now there will no excuse for Mac to improve next year if BoB comes with a solid plan on offense for him and that the offensive line is not utter trash.

If Patricia is let go then the end is near.

BB never throws his people under the bus unless they pull a Mangini.
"Sorry, Matt. It's a budget thing. Without DET picking up the tab we can't afford you. Good luck."

I wonder what they told Caley to apparently have him stay?
I imagine most of the assistants will stay - while bringing in a few extra positional guys.
I still hope they bring in a true OL coach, and while BOB has the QB coach title too, maybe a guy to groom there.
Wonder what they say to Judge?

Why BoB would sign that deal since he had the leverage? Every media in the united states and basically RKK was saying it’s BOB or bust.

It makes 0 sense!

I'm pretty sure NFL coordinators can leave for promotions even if they sign multi year contracts. I've never heard of non-compete clauses for NFL coaches not sure if that's a thing, but I'd love to be corrected if I'm wrong.

We know that Kraft already stated that he wanted BOB months ago. That is definitely a fact.
Say your goodbyes to BB.

Bob Kraft is on record wanting BOB to take over after BB leaves.

I know it's like asking an alcoholic not to drink but you need to stop posting B.S.

I don't know about this. Alabama fans seem incredibly happy at this news.

He is a very good coach. Alabama lost 4 games in 2 years with O Brien where offense scored 49 points, 38 points and then lost in OT where they scored 15 in the 4th to force OT. They lost to Georgia in championship in 2021 with only 18 but put up 41 on them previously. Georgia had maybe the greatest college defense of all time mind you. The offense was worse in 2019, arguably better in 2020 but Alabama did not win the championship with O Brian, so some message board fans like to blame the OC. Brady had 2 of his best years with him calling the plays. I would not put much stock in a few Alabama message board fans.

an OC is only as good as his QB, and a QB is only as good as his OC......when both are on the same page in terms of understanding of the concepts and what they are trying to do, things work.......see Brian Callahan & Joe Burrows......they both understand their offense and what they are trying to accomplish - Burrows knows his reads & progressions and works through them flawlessly for the most part.......yep, he's got the weapons, but it's the same reason Brady was able to do more with less, he understood what the offense was trying to accomplish and why things were being done, and he was like another OC/playcaller on the field

let's face it, if you've made it to the upper tier of NFL coaching ranks (coordinator level and above), you know the game, you know X's & O's - success at that point becomes far more nuanced, and relationships and trust are a huge part of it.......for that reason alone BoB is a huge upgrade, there's history and an established relationship here

Yeah let’a not act like the OC was the only issue last season with the offense, BOB is only step 1 in a multi step process this offseason.

I bet Mac and BOB will get along well.
I also assume this deal came along with stipulations on both sides.
I hope one of them is that Caley (or another asst.) will be more involved in playcalling training.
