Mayo negotiations + OC interviews next week

Not an OC, so not on topic fully. And I know this ship has sailed and is not happening....

But am I the only one who feels like we missed the boat with Brian Flores?

And why the f.uck am I talking about ships and boats while watching a foot of snow accumulate?

No thanks. Nothing about our TE play suggests he should be promoted.
I am not faulting the Coaching there those TE's were paid on their abilities alone. One can't block the other can't catch but both are cashing big game checks.

Is it not possible that they are only seriously considering BOB as OC and given two are WR coaches and one is an Oline coach that they might be positional coaches?
That's my fear.

Problem is if they can’t come to an agreement with Bob, what is the contingency plan?
I’m not seeing us interviewing the same names other other teams are:
I don’t want to hear Bill knows better than them.

And both of those TEs should be producing more than they have (Henry moreso than Smith). What specifically have you seen from Caley that leads you to believe he's capable of coordinating the entire offense?

Nobody should be getting any assurances about being the next HC in 2 years. Not BOB, not Mayo, not Steve, not anyone.

Let Mayo have his Asst HC title. If he excels at it and impresses BB and (more importantly) the Krafts, then they can make their decision when the time comes. If someone else offers him a HC job next offseason, then you have a decision to make. Not now.

Let BOB run the offense. If he does great, he'll get another crack at a HC job in the NFL with NE or elsewhere. No assurances need to be made beforehand.

I'm not a fan of thinking promises of this sort are being made so far in advance.

Brian Flores is a defense guy.

They need to have an idea what the plan is. If BB is 2-3 years from done, if Kraft believes Mayo would be the guy to replace him, he has to let him know that so he stays and prepares for the job.

I know, that why I said off topic to the OC thing.

The whole Mayo as asst HC in training thing got me thinking that Flores could have been that guy. Should have been in another thread, but it came to mind while reading about Mayo here.

He's a McDaniels disciple who should have gotten the job last year. I don't think he could do any worse than Patricia.

I'm just uncomfortable promising a HC job to someone whose job description is shrouded in so much mystery so far. A year ago I'd have assuaged those fears by saying IBWT, but then Patricia happened and I don't know what to think anymore.

It may be shrouded in mystery to us mere mortals, but not to those making the decisions.

Mayo sitting in on OC interviews could be an indicator he is going to succeed Belichick. I’m fine with that.

I don’t think it would be fair to blame Caley for the performance of the TE’s the past couple of years, but he hasn’t done anything that the public is aware of to set himself apart either. Those with much more access to his job performance could have the insight, but I don’t see how anyone on the outside could have anything to judge him by.

Whoever the OC is next year, I am not sure you can consistently win and contend for a SB without a mobile QB.
Mac is not that guy
Huh?

Last 10 SB winners:

Rams - Stafford
Bucs - Brady
Chiefs - Mahomes
Patriots - Brady
Eagles - Folk
Patriots - Brady
Broncos - Manning
Patriots - Brady
Seahawks - Wilson
Ravens - Flacco

2/10 were "mobile" quarterbacks. One could actually argue based on actual SB winners that traditional Pocket Passers > "Mobile" QBs

Until O’Brien gets an interview request elsewhere, I’m not going to freak out.

We all know the Chargers job is extremely desirable, but they’re sticking to the McVay tree so far. They’ve interviewed two current Rams employees and the Titans TE coach, who worked for Matt LaFleur (who was hired from the Rams) in 2018 and has been working in the same system since then with the internal promotions of Smith and Downing.
