Damar Hamlin Updates

Not much of an update, but some hope. Looking at this young man's videos before this incident, appears like a good young man with a big heart. He's got a lot to live for.

I have been avoiding discussing this situation because it is my personal choice to not speculate and discuss his situation or how the league will handle this while he is fighting for his life. No shade to anyone who chooses to discuss. Just my personal stance.

But I wish him a full recovery. Unfortunately, this isn't like TV and the movies and when your heart stops like this, it is not as easy as being shocked with paddles and be back to decent health. I will have him in my thoughts.

Nobody knows where the directive on "5 minutes" came from. I am no Goodell or NYJ-FL fan, but logically, it did not come from NY, that quickly. More likely a bad decision by an on-field ref not grasping the seriousness of the issue and treating it like any other cart-off injury.
I saw Troy Vincent had said that and I assumed it was just a face saving thing but I think PBPF makes a good point in that the league actually getting word to the teams that fast is unlikely. I wonder if it was the referees just following standard procedure for a stoppage of play any longer than X amount of time or something like that. Without word from the league the refs may have been the ones to send out the 5 minute warm up message simply because they didn't know what else to do. All in all it was a tough situation and I was surprised that the ESPN MNF broadcast handled it as well as they did because those MNF shows have been brutal the last few years.

I had a friend put in a medically induced coma after suffering a heart attack. It was more than 24 hrs later that we got the first updates from the medical staff.
Thank you for that info.

This young man's life background. He's a fighter.

My father was put in a medically induced coma for 3 days after a stroke, a procedure to protect the brain

My son is the same age as this young man. A few years ago he was in an accident and needed to be intubated in the ICU. He fully recovered. I can tell you though, Hamlin's parents are going through hell. Prayers for his full recovery.

What're chances of "full recovery" at this point? What even is a "full recovery"?

Does that terminology suggest:

"can resume professional sports career?"

Or is it

"Can manage and sustain normal bodily function without the assistance of medical equipment?"

Just curious - I know we have some folks here with decent medical knowledge.

God... If I'm wondering these questions, I cannot imagine being family...

Not having experienced a heart attack or having been old enough to understand what happened to my grandparents when they had theirs 30 some years ago, is it normal for there to have been no update on a patients condition after 12+ hours for something like this?

I know there was one that supposedly game from his Local Marketing guy last night, but then we had reports from the team and the NFL contradicting that.
They have to comply with HIPPA.

To me, full recovery means pre-incident conditions. It's unknown if he can continue to play football until they can determine the underlying cause for the event, but for now, fully recovery is all we can hope for.

People first players second.
This to me was the most sobering moment in National sports.
Unreal, my family is praying for this guy and all his loved ones and anyone who loves and cares about him.
This kid is inspirational, just wow.
The love and support from
People partially restored my faith in humanity.

The game is so small compared to these men’s lives.
Let’s all be kind and treat each other with love and respect everyday.

For real - thank goodness the call to administer CPR was quickly taken; from what I understand he was already on a stretcher and being loaded.
