I used to think Tomlin wasn't a great coach and was just a cheerleader player's coach who did less with more but after these last few years I have come to respect him as much as any coach in the league. He always keeps his teams in contention and had to deal with major divas like Roethlisberger, Joey Porter, Antonio Brown, Leveon Bell, and I am sure a dozen others. This clip below is one of the things that I really respect about Tomlin. He genuinely seems to care about the players he coaches.

Tomlin has always seemed like a guy that would have his team above .500 just on his leadership alone, even if he was coaching badminton.

I am guessing the 5 minute warm up thing was decided on site by the refs...and the NYFL was in New York assessing the situation before the coaches/players decided to suspend play...

Really doesn't matter to me. 5 minute warm up is standard for all injuries...and this is unprecedented.....

Players were seen warming up. Apparently, Diggs was heard trying to rally his teammates, saying remain focused. It quickly fell apart as players weren't having it. Then the coaches stepped in. There isn't any doubt the league wanted the game to resume. The players/coaches said no.

So the word that the "5 minutes" may be implemented comes down. Diggs, being a leader, starts leading then rather than wait. The medical pros do their thing, Hamlin is transported to the hospital. During this, the coaches meet, decide to go to the locker room, and then start talks with each other and the league office. They, the coaches, decide to call it.

For all we know, a reporter misquoted Diggs and made assumptions about where it came from.

Joe Buck didn't say we heard from the league about the 5 min. warm-up three different times based on a quote from Diggs. Come on man. Anyway, this probably isn't the thread to talk about this. Let's take it to the pre-game thread.

Not having experienced a heart attack or having been old enough to understand what happened to my grandparents when they had theirs 30 some years ago, is it normal for there to have been no update on a patients condition after 12+ hours for something like this?

I know there was one that supposedly game from his Local Marketing guy last night, but then we had reports from the team and the NFL contradicting that.

Yes, it is normal and I probably wouldn’t expect update for another 24-48 hours.

It takes about 48-72 hours after a brain injury for the full extent of the injury to become apparent.

Most likely, he is heavily sedated- essentially giving his brain a rest. They’ll turn off the sedation in the next day/2 days and they’ll be able to have a clearer picture with regards to his prognosis and the possibility of meaningful recovery.

Reminds me of a great curb your enthusiasm, where Larry donated to a charity with his name attached to it and Ted Danson donated anonymously, but everyone knew it was him anyway, and they were all saying god that’s so great, Ted is staying anonymous. Larry wasn’t happy.

I realize this has nothing to do with Hamlin’s condition, sorry for the clutter.

I kinda felt like whoever is responsible on game day at the field is the one who keeps things going to manage the TV show aspect of it. As much as I'd like to throw stones at the league on it, I think it's just simply a case of following procedures and then they realized that it wasn't going to be business as usual.

I like to hate on the NFL as much as the next man, but I think in this case, they didn't really drop the ball. Maybe too much damage control and spin but not much else.
