We have wins records to chase.
I've seen you post this a few times. If BB is just chasing a wins record why would he have drafted a QB at all instead of signing a vet he could win with quicker?

I mean who were we going to sign? Fitzpatrick, Brissett, Trubisky? There wasn't any viable starters available. I started to wonder in 2020 if Bill is chasing Shula's record at the detriment of the long term success of the team. It was clear that team wasn't going anywhere by midway through the season and I was hoping we would get a look at Stidham and some of the younger guys but w just kept trotting out broken down Cam. We seemed to have no real direction as far as the rebuild that year with re-signing guys like McCourty and Slater and franchising Thuney. Basically I was hoping for a full tear down post Brady but we seem to be straddling the line of rebuilding and trying to be a playoff team and now with Mac out for a potentially extended period of time I want to see which direction we take.

Zero reason this should have happened - ball was gone and he just pulled him down and fell on him.
Hi Ian totally agreed, however we know the rigors of the NFL. I'm hoping Mac can make a complete recovery.. however my feelings are the season will be over by then... hard to see where the patriots are going.. the decision to bring Patricia and judge back is strictly financial! Familiar faces and you don't have to pay them. Win win in BB eyes. However it feels like every team in the NFL post brady is evolving except the patriots. 20 years was amazing ! We are back in the Sullivan stadium days..

There is seemingly no direction, or maybe BB has an idea of what he sees however benching Kendrick Bourne, the TE position being completely ignored, no creativity on offense, we knew there were going to be laspses on defense with no shut down corner.. however this season felt doomed from the time Patricia was welcomed back.. trying to find optimism but it's hard.. ultimately owners look at results. RKK is a world class owner and we know as fans he will not accept mediocrity.. he's on the communication committee with CBS, so as we start loosing the ratings drop... that's when changes will be made..

I wonder if Mac missing a month plus is factored into any offseason decisions by RKK. Maybe I am being pessimistic but with Hoyer manning the ship for a month plus we could really bottom out. Does Bill get leeway because of Mac's injury or does RKK say tough sh*t?

In addition to the assumption that BB wants Shula's record, he has said that he wants to leave the team in good shape when he moves on. Drafting and developing the next franchise QB would help achieve both goals.

Bill gets leeway because he's still the best option and he's clearly earned. Personally I think his leeway should extend beyond Mac. I think he deserves two QB crack at it. So however long you think is a fair amount of time to judge Mac. Then he either needs to be winning with Mac or get someone else and then the leash gets much shorter. I suspect Kraft will be fair to Bill but probably not quite as long a leash as I described but still longer than the average poster.

I think this will force BB and Co to bring back last year's offense a bit more too, so hopefully more Bourne, Henry in the mix, less RPO's (dont know if they are related directly, dont think they are)

And then with Hoyer's noddle arm, there is no pressure for TT to come back.

Finally, and I hate to be the one saying first, but it's how i feel, if it is indeed 6-8 weeks injury, It puts the "Play-off hope" thing into stasis and realistically we would only go in if Mac comes back in all cillynders (Very good scenario) or the team rises up to the occasion (another very good scenario). So really, I think this kinda takes off some expectations from the team the year, i guess, at least to me.

Im at peace with Mac's injury, it is what is
Why do you want less RPO’s for this offense?

I think Mac deserves through next season to see if he can be the guy and I think regardless of what happens this year (outside of a nearly unfathomable 1-15 season) Bill is back next year as well. I just don't know if Bill himself would be up for drafting and developing another rookie QB if Mac flames out next year. Bill would be 71 going into next year, drafting a new QB at 72 (hypothetically), then potentially spending three years evaluating him would put Bill at 74. Basically if Mac flames out next year it means we likely don't make the playoffs in 2023 and assuming we don't this year already sitting at 1-2 with no starting QB for potentially 6-8 weeks do you honestly think Kraft would give Bill a shot to take a new guy after 0 playoff wins and one playoff appearance in 4 years post-Brady?

Just get Sean Peyton on borard as BB's successor I would sleep easy after his exodus.

If the Pats don't make the playoffs in '22 or '23, they'll get to be on Hard Knocks. BB will love that.

In general terms, I don't know if with Mac can play it at NFL level optimally, as it requires a at least threatning running QB to have its full effect.

Mac quick decision-making is good for this, sure, but even still it might be too slow for the NFL. Based on what Ive seen so far, of course (and Im not a college guy, so i havent seem his Alabama days)

Lol I can see the picture the grunts, scoffing, and one word answers from Bill in my head as we speak.

You make a valid point! Your not being pessimistic at all.. we've seen greatness for 2 decades.. people must remember RKK sided with BB when 12 left.. RKK when he took over the team we were below mediocre.. so if we look at the empire that was built from us winning... Kraft will not accept loosing.. of course you can never just say hey bill your fired! But if Brady can leave ANYTHING can happen.. the Patriot way was established by Parcells, instilled by bruschi, McGinniest, law, Ted Johnson.. so on... basically I can't see RKK siding with Bill again once this season crashes and burns...

I wonder how any takes they would have to do to get those right?? Reminds me of Hodor lines in Game of Thrones hodor...hodor.

IF this is true - and the headline does sound a bit sensationalizing - this reminds me a bit of Jimmy and the Patriots not being on the same page for his recovery time in 2016. Which ended up with JG being shown the door. I don't think BB would have the stones or the audacity to sent Mac packing but I'm just sayin...
Some of us are old enough to remember Michael Haynes, a spectacular athlete, the best CB in the franchise’s history imo, who complained about being rushed back after a collapsed lung.

But this is dark ages 1978 stuff. CORRECTION: 1981. Mike Haynes, the New England Patriots' five-time All-Pro cornerback,...

You’re more than hired meat, Mac. Stay out until you’re healed. It’s Mac Jones LLC time.

I think that second QB would be a bet option

Schefter…

Doesn’t seem to indicate they are at odds or anything though. Hopefully they don’t bring him back til he’s 100%.

I have no thought of us being a contender this year but would like to get some more experience for him.
