I'd call myself a skeptic rather than a hater, but, whatever.
He's not the devil, but he's also not the angel / hero he and his media team makes him out to be.
If you want to go to whataboutism, I can find a lot of other people who have to spend even more time away from their families, suffer as much physical pain or more, and get nothing in comparison for rewards.
The idea that he couldn't arrange his schedule so he could be at work with his team is pretty absurd, IMO.
If you don't think there's at least some resentment about that in the building, nor that he won't get any backlash for it in the future, you are being extremely optimistic, IMO.
I think this will be known as Tom's two week notice season. He already has his next job lined up. He'll play at a good enough level so he doesn't get crushed in the media, but he's already talking about how motivation fades as you get older. There will be lots of Angry Tom on the sidelines blaming teammates. There are already people making excuses for him here ("look, he's 45, ain't it amazing he's playing at all?"). I think he just wants to get through this season without damaging his reputation too much, get another summer off, and take his cushy job at Fox.
