Jim Fassel and the ultimate WR

I was watching Jim Fasel on ESPN's FirstTake, and he had to build the ultimate WR.

Here is how Fasel answered
Best Hands - Randy Moss
Best Route runner - Randy Moss
Strongest - T.O.
Smartest - Torry Holt
Thoughness -Marvin Harrison


I like Moss for what he is doing this season, but if I had to build the ultimate WR with what is given,
Best Hands - Larry Fitzgerald(Cards)
Best Route runner - Steve Smith(Panthers)
Strongest - Hines Ward(Steelers)
Smartest - Torry Holt(Rams)
Toughness - Troy Brown(Patriots)

If you add quickest, I think Wes Welker has to factor in. I'd say TO is the strongest without a doubt, though David Givens would give him a run if he wasn't chronically injured... and Calvin Johnson is a huge, strong guy, too.

Troy Brown is the toughest receiver I can think of. Spent his entire career going across the middle and getting whomped by opposing players.

You are going to tell me that Moss has better hands than Larry Fitzgerald. Moss is having a great year, but Fitzgerald is the guy that most coaches, GM, or whoever would choose. Moss is having a wonderful year, but his hands are not as good as Fitzgerald.

I agree that Moss is easily the best route runner. Ive never seen a receiver that sets up his cuts with the route PRIOR TO making the cut better than Moss.
The other thing I've seen from Moss, on deep balls, is that he fakes out the DB with how he goes after the catch. There was one pass early this year that was thrown to the outside. Moss stayed straight in line, then when the ball was coming down, reached far out to his right to grab it. The defneder may have gotten in position if Moss drifted toward the ball, but had no chance the way Moss played it.
I'd also give Moss the best in the category of attacking the ball in the air.

I'm not knocking him down for what he has done for the Pats. And he is going to win a Super Bowl ring this year, but I have a problem with putting him in any of those spots. Steve Smith is the best route runner that I have seen in a long time. Hines Ward is real strong, to which I feel as a WR, the strongest in the NFL.

Strongest is TO, Hines Ward is the best regarding blocking and probably "toughness." Fitzgerald has great hands like Moss, but Moss has better hand-eye coordination, which is a big factor with deep balls and big plays.

Um, Moss doesn't have the best hands in the league? Are you kidding me. He has superglue hands. Moss has been know to catch everything near him throughout his entire career.

Moss has the best speeds.
Moss is the best route runner.
TO is the strongest
TO is probably slightly better with YAC (breaking tackles, etc)
Holtz is very smart, but I think Moss is just as smart.
Moss has the best "quickness"
Moss has the best "jump ball" ability.
Moss has the biggest impact on the field.

Well then your list is bogus. You can't decided not to give someone credit just because you don't like them. TO is probably the strongest WR and the best with YAC (largely due to his strength). You're dislike for him has nothing to do with that.

How is speed not a category? What about jumping ability? One of the main things that Brady has said about the ease of throwing to Moss is that he just throws it as high as he can and knows that Moss will come down with it.

Moss = best hands; he might drop one or two, but every receiver in the league does that from time to time. The difference, in my opinion, is that he comes down with catches that NO OTHER receiver in the league would have a chance on (the Indy catch, the elbow catch, etc). That has to be factored in when talking about hands.

I think Branch is one of the best route running WR's in the league when he is healthy.

You're out of your mind if you feel Ward is "much stronger" than Owens. TO is a physical specimen.
