I went through the current list of RBs, TEs, and WRs (including track star Slater), and Meyers has a faster 10yd split than all of them except 4:

Thornton
Strong
Wilkerson (Hand Time)
Parker

Last year, for electronic times (which excludes the faster CDavis, SWade, and KWilk), he had the 2nd fastest 10yd split out of all the Patriots (JCJ was the fastest). The dude is not slow, but he does have terrible top end speed. (Pleeeeaase work with a top track coach if you haven't yet... like Ty Law did with Bob Kersee.)

Given his ability to think like a QB, his intangibles are mostly upstairs - almost like the anti-Harry. That being said, I internally said goodbye to him right after we picked up Parker and Thornton, as I don't see the Pats' giving him the money he should be getting. Even Sanu got 5yr/32.5 with worse numbers (except a few more TDs obv) all the way back in 2016.

Edit: Man, this should've been his 3rd or 4th career TD by that point, but there were some misses... It is what it is. He beat a 1st team All Pro CB, but Pats couldn't give Mac 3 secs without holding:

How did you photoshop Meyers scoring a TD? I know it’s never happened.

BIG WR (2) – DeVante Parker, Kendrick Bourne,
FAST WR (2) – Tyquan Thornton, Tre Nixon, Nelson Agholor (trade)
SLOT WR (1) – Kristian Wilkerson, Jakobi Meyers (trade)

There's always the possibility they keep 6, but I doubt it.

Why do posters keep putting Wilkerson in the slot? Yes, I know he had an amazing 3-cone time for his size, but when has he ever played from the slot? In the Jags game last year, he started and I do not remember him in the slot at all. What am I missing? IMO Wilkerson is not a slot receiver, never has been and never will be. But we are going to trade Meyers for Wilkerson in the slot? Thursday is part of a 3 day weekend I guess.

Wilkerson or Nixon, both have the agility to burn you in the slot... Nixon's faster inline, Wilkerson's quicker.

- Davon Godchaux has looked terrific since signing the deal. He wrecked an 11-on-11 period on Thursday, shooting the right side A-Gap into the backfield for a tackle for loss. Godchaux has been unblockable at times in the run game.

- Two athletic linemen who stood out are OT Justin Herron and guard Arlington Hambright. Herron looks like a really solid swing tackle with starter potential. Hambright might be more of a Ted Karras replacement as an interior swing player, but his athleticism does shine in zone schemes, and he has gotten more opportunities than expected.

- Fellow rookie Marcus Jones is doing exactly what we all expected: playing primarily in the slot and returning punts. Jones has been competitive in coverage, and there's a good chance he's the punt returner on day one. He will have a role in his first season, but the slot still belongs to Jonathan Jones.

I also initially prepped myself for Meyers’ departure once more guys were added, but I’ve recently started thinking about him staying. Thornton is the Agholor replacement for next year, and Parker kind of rounds out the group rather than replacing someone necessarily. Meyers is their current Edelman, I think they’ll try to keep him without breaking the bank and I wonder if him having a slightly “down” year this year with more guys around him will keep his free agent market a little lower. That said, 2023 is a contract year for both Bourne and Parker so they’ll need to start thinking about their deals too.

I thought Herron played well his 1st year with the team (I think on the left side) but then he tailed off some after. Maybe he is playing well with zone blocking. I was pulling for Cajuste but so far he hasn't lived up to the billing...maybe sitting out his 1st year with injury is the problem. I never heard of Hambright until we got him...he is playing well.

Question: it sounds as if the Pats are adding the "Shanahan" zone blocking offense to their current offense, rather than replacing it. This would allow them to do both in the same game, even the same offensive series.

What other teams can do this?

By "Y" receiver, are you thinking the "Edelman" type slot role?

Nixon caught two TD's on one start at the end of last season. I suspect he earned that opportunity by being more consistent in practice and by playing gunner on special teams.

So far in practice it sounds like Wilkerson is lighting it up and catching everything thrown at him... I don't know what the coaches know, but that what it sounds like.

I think you're referring to Wilkerson, not Nixon, who caught the 2 TDs and has been learning the gunner position from Slater.

You gotta keep Bourne, Parker, Agholor, Thornton, and Meyers IMO. I think they probably carry Nixon too for 6. It's a lot of WRs, but Thornton is developing and Parker has durability concerns. Park Wilkerson on the PS and bring him up as/when necessary. Agholor will leave next year for a decent contract and Thornton will take over for him, and hopefully Nixon will be a bigger contributor. We'll see what happens with Meyers. Maybe he sticks around on a modest deal.

There is the potential for McDanie;ls to swipe Wilkerson and/or Nixon if you try to stash them.
I agree with you, though I think one of Agholor or Meyers could be traded to a QR needy team like AZ, Dallas, or Atlanta.
