Patriots Minicamp 6-8-2022

Maybe you're not asking the right questions?

Such as...

Will DeVante Parker play a full schedule for the first time since his contract season?
Will Nelson (Malcolm Butler would've made the tackle) Agholor continue to prove worthy of barely half of his salary?
Can Kendrick Bourne really take it to another level as Mac's primary Slot WR?
What's the over/under before Meyers & his 10 yds/catch starts outside because of injury/ineffectiveness issues with Parker/Agholor?
Will Tyquan Thornton be able to shake-off tight NFL coverage without injuring himself?
Is Tre Nixon the next Julian Edelman or the next Bam Childress?
Does Kristian Wilkerson have another gear to make people remember when he was the late-season binkie as the anti-Harry?
Why is Ty Montgomery even in our building?
I wonder where Malcolm Perry will be stationed by this time next year...?
And will Kneal, Harry still demand a trade after he clears waivers?

Your optimism and enthusiasm are so infectious. Inspirational insight, incredible hindsight. Remarkable.

WR still has more questions than answers for me.

Agreed. But Parker adds some comfort, and if Tre Nixon can play out of the slot (Mac seems to think he can), then that adds a lot of quickness and speed that Myers does not have (and is a surprise). Thornton probably is a 2023 regular but hopefully he can add a deep threat with limited routes in 2022. This all adds speed to the WR core, but it is still questionable, or "projected", at this point in 2022. We will see.

We need speed and YAC which will in turn help our already good running game. Hopefully Parker, Nixon, and Thornton can start in 2022 to demonstrate more WR quickness and speed. Bourne and Smith at TE add speed and quickness. Harry, Myers, and Agholor are being replaced, I hope, and that is why we signed Parker and drafted Thornton. Myers and Agholor are OK, just not good enough for the salary number in 2023.

Tier 7

As we approach the last tier of position groups, we see a common trend: the lack of a true and proven WR1. While a lot of young talent are present in this company, the No. 1 option in the passing game is lacking. These will be the teams that could struggle due to their lack of diverse talent on their offense. They can be one-dimensional at times and can lack consistency.

Stop trolling and go back to your Tampa Bay safe space.

Who have they ever had as the true and proven WR1 besides Randy Moss? Neither Branch nor JE qualify as that.

Yes

Wilkerson won't be on thr starting roster
Montgomery is just a special teamer
Who cares about perry

Whoever wrote that deserves special recognition from the Dunning Kruger Society.

the common factor is is lack of a true and proven WR1 and the No. 1 option in the passing game is lacking. Thus they will struggle due to “their lack of diverse talent”. Whiskey tango foxtrot?

how does alleged lack of a number one equate to lack of diverse talent? Those aren’t just orthogonal they’re antithetical.

thanks for the lulz. Not good for anything else.

I can’t wait for the QB5 documentary to come out in 2032

I know it was speculated that Bourne was dismissed from the first minicamp practice for disciplinary reasons due to his recent talking to the media about the offensive changes.

Mike Reiss reports in his column posted this morning that Bourne was given an excused absence for an event related to his wedding; when he returned to practice the following day, the team surprised him with a cake.

Perhaps we can leave the toxic, negative gossip/speculation out of this forum, especially when Belichick himself indicated the absences were excused.

Kendrick's cake: Receiver Kendrick Bourne was given an excused absence for the first practice of mandatory minicamp as part of his wedding celebration, and the team surprised him with a cake upon his return. It's a moment that reflects the camaraderie and chemistry that can be developed at this time on the NFL calendar.

I’ve really come to dislike Bedard. Pompous for no reason. Pretends that he has legit sources in the patriots organization and around the league, when he likely does not… at least anyone who matters. Om contrast, Reiss does seem to have some legit sources in the Pats organization and he earned that over many years, by showing himself to be a true professional who rarely writes or says something for clicks or to get run nationally. Some try to label him a “company guy“ but he is willing to criticize the organization, he does it the right way. You could tell that Belichick liked him from the start, possibly because Reiss would wear a suit to every press conference…..maybe that reminded him of Tom Landry. :) Of the younger beat guys, Perry is probably closest to Reiss in terms of being professional and not sensational.

Nobody important is going to trust someone like Bedard or Chubby Trollin’ Volin with real inside information. Curran is in a similar boat, although he is higher on the food chain than the other two, which is why he was so pissed off when his main Pats source (Tommy’s dad) was taken away.

Bedard also loves to say “I’m just telling you what the tape shows”, as if we should take that as gospel. I have more confidence in a select few (very few) on this site who analyze game film in a serious manner.

Agreed. I've come to dislike Bedard and Curran. Reiss and Perry are OK. Evan Lazar is my current favorite as he's non-negative and backs his opinions up with film. His podcasts with Alex Barth are well worth listening to.
