2022 PTP Draft Board / Pats Draft Talk

Once again, the Pats can field a team going in to the draft, so BPA at one of several spots, depending on who drops: CB, OG, OT, and possibly WR, ILB. All of those positions have players that can play but are easily upgraded.
Yes. I am beginning to feel that the top-rated player on their board, regardless of position, is the right way to go.

This is a hypothetical I saw on Twitter.

Suppose that the Patriots can't trade down. The only offer on the table at 21 is from the Panthers, who offer their 2023 1st and an additional 2023 pick (2nd or 3rd, conditional on position) for 21. [After 6, their next pick this year is a late fourth.]

Would you do it? Do you think Nike would consider it, or would he just growl and hang up?
Trade up and get the unicorn they value the most? Might be named Jordan something or other...

I do think next year's draft is supposed to be stronger, and the Panthers should be a high pick. I'd take their 4th this year and next year's 1st and 3rd and do it, I think (again, unless there's HIll or Lloyd or someone they value above the lower choices).

Quay Walker seems to be the kind of "safe" pick that Bill likes. Plays for a great program, solid stats, sound fundamentally, etc.
In round 2, ok play it safe. But in round 1, we need to get either a blue chip talent at #21 or move down if we can pick up an extra pick and still get a red chip guy.

Quay Walker in round 1 would be a smash your tv, WTF is he doing again, Belichick pick.

However if we double dip Georgia - round 1 - Jordan Davis round 2 - Quay Walker. I'm down for that scenario.

Quay Walker ain't going to last until late round 2. He's gone early round 2 IMO. If Bill is intent on getting him, I can see him trading down into late round 1/early round 2.

Do you think Hightower was worth a first round pick?

Do you think Hightower was worth a first round pick?
Was Hightower worth a 1st round pick in 2012. Yes. The results speak for themselves. Would I want a carbon copy of Hightower to defend against offenses in 2022 and the modern NFL? No.

If we draft a linebacker today, he better be able to go sideline to sideline and offer occasional pass coverage in the short areas as well. If you recall, the Patriots got absolutely stomped by the Buffalo Bills twice last season because our linebackers are dinosaurs who can't move well sideline to sideline. Josh Allen and that Bills offense is going to eat our lunch if we continue going for big monolithic, lumbering linebackers in the draft.

Linebacker wouldn't potentially be the best use of a 1st round pick anyways, I would say Defensive tackle is the team's top need based on last year's performance. Were you aware that the Patriots gave up 2103 [11th worst in NFL] rushing yards and 123.7 rushing yards per game [11th worst in NFL] in 2021?

Even if that best player is breece hall or Kenneth walker?

IMO the order of drafted positions for the Patriots will be (I'm not specifying round because I don't want to and trades may shake them up)...

First Pick - DT/NT
Second Pick - CB
Third Pick - OL
Forth Pick - CB
Fifth Pick - LB
Sixth Pick - WR
Seventh Pick - DT
Eighth Pick - RB
Ninth Pick - Traded

Zuma your opinion sukcs
Yeah well FU

No question.

Yes, but I don't think they'd have RBs ranked that high. I'm assuming their board will not resemble a list of the Top 50 Prospects, in order.

Hopefully just insurance if Davis or Jones aren’t available….
Patriots re-sign Carl Davis - ProFootballTalk
Good resign by the Pats. He played in every game last season and was a solid contributor in the NT role. I remember him steamrolling the Falcons center on one play in that game.

As for the Quay Walker talk, I’m sure Bill, the Matts, Elliot Wolff and Nike are just flapping their gums sharing their draft plans with everyone who’ll listen.

Joshua Williams is gonna be the trade up reach that sends everyone into a tailspin. Lol.

Agree, and in 2 years it will be talked about as an amazing pick.

I think he's in play as soon as Day 3 begins... he ain't no Cyrus the Virus or the Little Duke (but Not of Dorchester) Dawson or SloJuan Willies... Or Lil" Terry Wheatley... Or Glas-IR Dowling... Or the Error Repeater.

My (Not Everyone's) Dream Scenario (assuming no trade downs):

4 Guys I would run my Grandmother over to get up to the podium
J. Davis
T. Penning
T. McDuffie
T. Burks (A.J. Brown comp...yes please)

5 Guys I'm Good to Go with if the above does not happen perfectly
C. Olave
G. Karlaftis
D. Wyatt
N. Dean

A. Booth

Don't want to use my very first pick on a WR this year... If Penning is gone then it HAS to be spent on defense... Just not on a LB or a 3-Tech...
I would rather wait for Metchie at 54 or better still an early Day 2 pick with a trade-down from 21...

Walker does have the true sideline to sideline speed this team has been missing at LB for a while now. 21 is early but if they were able to work out a trade with say KC for 29 and 30, grab Walker and Jones, that is a major overhaul.
