Many Want A Defensive Front Six Player At 21: Will Anyone There Be Worth the Pick

There is going to be someone available that is equivalent value with the pick. But yeah, take the BPA.

Teams who focus too much on short term needs and reach for players get burned too often in the late first round.

Seriously, I've seen dozens of threads started that could easily fall under existing 2 or 3 threads. Should we start a new thread for every position? I don't get it.

I Want a New Thread (stolen: I Want a New Drug - Huey Lewis)

I want a new thread
One that won't make me sick
One that won't make me crash my PC
Or make me feel like a worthless ****

I want a new thread
One that won't hurt my head
One that won't make my drink vermouth
Or make my eyes too red

One that won't make me nervous
Wondering what we'll do
One that makes me feel like I felt when BB picked
Mankins at 32.

I want a new thread
One that won't kill
Our cap, doesn't cost too much
of Draft capital

I want a new thread
One that won't go away
One that won't keep me up all night
One that won't make me sleep all day

One that won't make me nervous
Wondering what we'll do
One that makes me feel like a PF draft guru
When I'm here with you
I'm here with you, BCG

I want a new thread
One that does what it should
One that won't make me feel too bad
One that won't make me feel too good

I want a new thread
One with no doubt
One that won't make me talk to myself
Or make me scream out loud

One that won't make me nervous
Wondering what to do
One that makes me feel like I feel when I'm with you
When I'm here with you
I'm here with you

All these threads have had over 450, views, one over 800, and another over 1000.

Someone reads these threads, even if they all could be combined under the massive draft thread.

Some actually prefer shorter threads.

And, of course, some prefer non-repetitive, longer, comprehensive threads.

I had no idea "views" we're tracked?? Is that a lot?

I'm just having fun man bc of the way you worded it lol.

To answer your question. Yes there will be someone available worth the pick.

You mentioned Lloyd in you're OP. Not sure he could play inside here tbh. He just doesn't like or want to be physical, take on contact. If we're going "smaller" I think we go Dean, inside. I think Lloyd could play on the los in a different role but he's just not physical if he doesn't absolutely have to be. Dean is small but has no problem being aggressive, physical and taking on contact.

Few things about LB though. We definitely could go early but we just signed Wilson, have McMillan, Bentley. None would stop us from taking someone but I think we look there Day 2/early 3.

I wonder how many of our former player are close to signing, perhaps right after the draft. 12 of the top 100 are ex-patriots. The team could be close to agreements with Gilmore, Flowers and or Hicks. I wouldn't even be shocked to see Van Noy or Hightower back.

I think a CB or NT on the defensive side...if Dean is there at 21, he's an interesting player as well.

On offense, our biggest need is guard, I don't think we'll take one at 21(even if Zion is available) we've proven we can select later round guards that are good(Thuney, Shaq, Andrews etc.) so I would expect to go defense with our first pick.
A name that I've been hearing that has been flying up the draft boards recently is Daxton Hill, someone to watch as well.
I'm big on Dean as well. The only DT I want is Jordan Davis.

it confuses me

Nakobe Dean is 6 feet tall...230 pounds of sideline to sideline fury. You actually think BB would pass on the possible next Ray Lewis?

I do not know if dean is the next ray Lewis (who killed a guy, maybe two) but if he is there at 21, then I could see bb smiling as the card goes to the podium!

Most would like a defensive front six player early.
I'm not sure what you're trying to say there, but I want a cornerback with our first pick. Someone has to be groomed to replace JC and he's not on the roster
I’d like a CB if the value is there. Defensive front is less important as far as I’m concerned. But I’m not into taking anyone just to pick a particular position. It also depends on how the entire class rates, and how you rate other teams’ needs. So, if you don’t take the best NT in round 1 what are the prospects for still getting a good one in round 2? Vs CB? Or WR? I dont believe anyone on this board has the resources to properly evaluate and answer those questions better than BB. So I’ll wait to see what he does. And then I’ll LMAO at the reactions here when he takes a no-name safety in round 2 just to screw with you all…

He never takes a player to screw with posters on Patsfans.com. With that being said, those days of taking no name random players are over.

Mega threads are tough to follow - so I'm not against breaking them up. Seriously, try looking up something like this from a year ago and having to sift through a mega thread to find it. That's why there's been less merging since this past season for the sake of making these topics easier to find and follow.

nakobe dean??

I would like to see them bring Hightower back and put him on the edge and leave him there. Opposite Judon that would be a dominating edge.
Hightower never got the chance to just play there full time and wreak havoc, because his versatility was so valuable but after losing a step, that would be a great role for him.

Every year there are around 6-10 can't miss players in the draft. After that there are about 40 who fall into the category that is wider. Could be an all pro, could just be an OK starter, OR, like EVERY draft pick, could fail miserably. It is such a crap shoot for the guys who actually are PAID to find new players every year, yet we amateurs have it down to a science and through the lens of 20-20 hindsight NEVER make mistakes.

AS one of those amateurs, I'm hoping we pass on that WR everyone seems to feel the need for, and look for a capable DT and CB for our first 2 picks. In my dream world we trade down and wind up with ANY of the so called 2nd tier CB's and Travis Jones in the 2nd and a WR and LB with the extra third we pick up with the trade.

BTW- Did anyone else notice that Stingley's 3 cone time was a VERY pedestrian slightly less than a 6.9 In fact IIRC it was about the same as the one Jordan Davis ran. Granted it would be delicious karma if he were to land with us.

I’m all for drafting a wr if it is the right one. Those contracts are sickening right now and to have one under a rookie contract for 4 years would be nice. Easier said then done, but you never know until you try. Harry was just a bust unfortunately but it doesn’t mean you just stop. Listen to your scouts and hope they did the good job and effort if they throw their hat in that arena again.

Of course what you want is someone who contributes day 1. Terry Glenn, Seymour, Wilfork mayo, easily come to mind. For most of the drafts when they are picking high they usually do a great job of finding that player and with so many holes this offseason it looks like they can do it again. A few misses but way more hits if you go back to 01 until now.

Probably would be good with a DT, seems there are some that are down on Wyatt for whatever reason, but I think he’d be a great pick to pair up with Barmore. Might be that guy that surprises and becomes a day 1 starter. I remember there were some that wanted Gerard Warren over Seymour and that turned out ok in our favor. Wyatt seems like a solid all around player so he works as well.

Got a nagging suspicion they may go oline and Ok with that too if thats whats best for the team. Andrews is on the last year of his contract as well as Wynn so if the best player available is the center from Iowa or the other two guards, a LT scouts are raving about than so be it.there’s always a talent that falls on draft day. Almost always.

Wouldnt be surprised if they traded the first pick into next year either. Which would suck but may be great in the long term

I agree with this. I get having a draft forum for 11 months out of the year, because there is so much draft interest in this board that it would over whelm the main board otherwise, but I would like to see the main board be allowed to be the primary draft board in the last month before the draft. Free agency has died out almost entirely and it’s a dead season for discussion of pretty much anything except the draft. 3-4 weeks leading up to the draft, and a week after it for people to shriek about how horrible Belichick is at his job seems like a reasonable time frame for position posts, and a mock thread, but individual posts should probably be linked under position posts. The larger draft threads just become too unwieldy at the point, with thousands of responses and hundreds of pages. So Ian, if you are reading this, I think it would be a good thing to make the main board the draft forum for the next month.
