Will be interesting to see if Bill sits today out.

WR could be in play although WR1 market shrank and could be too steep. Maybe if Robinson wants to play for BB, but as top WR remaining he should take the $. I wouldn't mind my boy Kirk at 10M apy (KR incl.) but not sure he'd move the needle.

CB should be the story of the day: entire FA class still available w plenty solid options; doubt CB island will be in play for NE with top 2 ex Pats.

EDGE also all still in play so could be some bargains tomorrow. Ogbah a name to watch, but prob not for NE.

It is still a buyers market - the last one - so any big long term deal is a win for the club.

But i guess it will be more about re-signings of some core vets and the good old comp formula prioritizing those cut etc.
Some interesting cuts already on the market at positions of need not only Flowers, also G and LB..

I wouldn't Kirk but I think he's a true and it seems we have two interchangeable guys in Bourne & Meyers inside but who knows.

I'm excited to see how he plays it after last year and post-Brady. Any draft crushes yet?

Bedard (I know, I know) puts out the most scathing blog post I've seen about current affairs today. His opinion here is shaped by comments by others in the League.

Sample:
A high-ranking personnel executive from an NFC team gave us some insight on why Belichick's decision on the personnel side is so curious.
"I've done every job that you can think of ... at the top level of personnel, you're dealing with the pro side way more," he said. "The draft ... everyone has that wired. You have your system, your scouts, and they're doing the same work, the same evaluations year after year. It's really plug and play on the college side. You have your system for evaluating, and you stick with that. Plus, the college job is more about how you develop these players in your program. You can identify the players you want, but how many make instant impacts? Development by the coaches and their maturation are the most important factors.
"On the pro side, you're not only dealing with free agency and figuring that out, but you're dealing with the agents for your own free agents and players basically year round. There's the cap to figure out, extensions to prioritize. Plus you're evaluating the rest of the league to identify who you might add via trade, street free agency, tryouts, etc. It's all-consuming. I can't imagine going from only the college side to handling it all. I can't think of any other team that has done that.
"Most personnel departments are wired, they're plug and play if you lose someone like Ziegler. You have a depth of experience, and if someone needs help, they are there. The way the Patriots are set up right now, you need Eliot to swallow a lot of his pride — a guy who has interviewed and was a finalist to be a GM multiple times — and just set things up for Groh, who has much less experience. That usually doesn't go too well."

and...
Two player agents said they met with new and very young Patriots personnel staffers about free agents at the combine. It didn't go well.
"He had obviously been given marching orders and really didn't know what he was doing," one agent said. "They seem to be flying by the seat of their pants. I guess they are expecting Bill and Matt (Patricia) to handle a lot of this stuff when it comes down to it, but this is the most unprepared I've seen them ever. It feels like they're going to miss out on some stuff."

Had zero time since the last time . yet to jump in the PTP thread.

Id hope for another heavier go - pushing $ to 2023,2024 - make use of the last buyers market as much as possible.
But im not too optimistic..
Every long term deal is a win for the club this year (well in principle).
Next year tables turn..

This contract is insane though..

Yea I just saw. Haven't seen the details but 20 per is way too much for him lol.

Wow just checked his #'s. No 1K season. No 80 rec years and never above 6 TD. That's a lot of money and projection that'll he be a low-end WR1.

Is this accurate?

No — 2025 and 2026 are woefully inaccurate, and 2024 is pretty terrible too. Use overthecap.com instead for this type of comparison among all teams.

2023 is reasonably true — team currently has the 5th most cap space available of all teams for that season when taking into account a full roster (I.e. assigning minimum contracts until a team gets to 53 players signed). But that doesn’t reflect the Trent Brown deal. Notable FAs after 2022 include Harris, Wynn, McCourty, Meyers, Agholor, Slater.

That's a terrible way of putting it because it assumes carryover of every currently unspent dollar from year to year. There are no players under contract in 2025, so of course they'll have a ton of cap room in 2026. They'd literally be carrying over the entire 2025 cap.

(McCourty's 2025 dead money will almost certainly hit the cap sooner than 2025. This year's draft picks will be under contract in 2025, and Mac Jones will too assuming his 5th year option is picked up.)

To the people that want a WR. Would you trade 21 for DK or Terry?

To the people that want a CB. Would you trade 21 for AJ Terrell? Broke out last year, tied for CB3 when I graded him coming out.

Take a page from the Rams or no?

Just throwing it out there.

No for me. Let's hold the course. The young LB types have to step up. Hopefully we sign Flowers and Hicks, draft a DT, LB, CB and WR.

I’m hoping for a trade down and fill a few needs that way rather than take a player at 21, so no. I do think this will be stocking up on linemen, particularly on offense, and want a few more picks.
