Player Signing Patriots use 2nd Round Tender on Jacobi Meyers

The bigger issue is that the Pats had the space to match most offers last year. Right now they don't.
BB wouldn’t match. He’d gladly take the 2nd rounder in this scenario.

K Harry has a cousin that plays WR for Phoenix State who just happens to mocked for day 2.

Not fast, but an excellent blocker.

This is reasonable. People crying about 4M$ for Jakobi production are the types who think future HoFers should be manning every position…
Every NFL team's fan base misreads the market/potential market for some of their players, and misses the importance of "fit" once you get beyond elite talent. Meyers has gone from a guy who really wasn't an NFL level player to a guy who fits in NE as a WR3/WR4, and he's carved himself out a role.

BB isn't the type to wildly overpay his players, so giving him the 2nd round tender shouldn't be something that people are losing sleep over.

Me Too !

I hope he gets a nice contract & we get a
2nd round pick, but we have a better chance at hitting megabucks.
When nobody has touched our marquee first round big bodied receiver with a barge pole what chance do our undrafted wide receivers have.. that too a second round In a draft full of superstar receiver talent ..just get the best possible fit at all positions and go rolling. Our season this year could resemble the ones the Texans had in 2021. 2023 will be the first time we draft in single digits.

I will drive him to the airport for a 2nd round pick.
This is interesting,

Say someone offers Meyers a 4 year contract for $5M a year. You would rather have a second, and believe that Belichick WOULD (not could using your advice) get a better WR in Round 2.
================
We have this discussion every year. 2nd rounders make the team, because they have to. But the draft (certainly in Round 2) is a crapshoot. IMO, I wouldn't expect someone who would contribute more over the next four years than Myers.

As long as bb is NOT picking a defensive back in the second round and instead listening to wolf, we should get a quality contributor in the second round of this draft.

Do it.

I agree that we likely to get a contributor. The question is whether the contributor is likely to contribute more than Meyers.

Yes. Indeed. Get rid of a guy who made himself from scratch and has done nothing but improve every year he's been here. Why would we ever want guys like that when we can get a 2d for him and draft the next Chad Jackson?

I would rather have a 2nd round pick, than Meyers at the minimum salary for his entire
Career if that’s what your looking for….

Has Meyers increased his blazing 4.63 speed?

How many games did he play before he finally scored a TD?

You know you need to score to win…. Lol

You wouldn’t give to Meyers to draft the next Gronk?

I would….. without a doubt.

Nope, not for a 3% chance of Gronk which is what it actually is. Hell, every 6th round pick is Brady, amirite?

Sure glad your not running the Pats.

You remind me of the idiots that gave me a hard time for calling career backup Hoo-man a JAG years ago.

He was a Jag !
A total Jag.

Hooman had 57 catches for 646 yards in his career.

Meyers had 83 catches for 866 yards just last season. And 59 for 720 the year before. Basically, two out of three seasons for Meyers have been better by themselves than Hooman's career. The two are not comparable.

Some fans of this team baffle me.

They complain BB sucks at drafting and developing WRs but when they develop one that catches 83 balls for almost 900yards they complain they are tendering him too high of a draft pick.

Jesus.

Huh? The question was would you trade an UDFA for a 2nd rounder? I would. Absolutely. That's the meat of this draft. Hell we just traded a top 5 G for a 5th rounder.

You wouldn't?

Nope.

Who cares if he is a UFA? Why is that relevant?

He is a home grown, 80 catch almost 900yd WR who is very productive in this offense making $4m a year. Developing WRs isn't exactly a strength and people want to trade him?

If you want to trade him for a 2nd rd draft pick that historically has a 20% chance of being a starter in the NFL go for it.
