Apologize, I know you guys don't care but I wasn't ignoring you. I really haven't been around as much lately.
I have to admit I have my doubts about specifically taking over for Dev in a C1 / Single high role. Two high maybe bc I can see him rotating down a lot. He loves playing downhill. Very aggressive, loves sticking dudes. I feel like he has the speed (former track & field spent time on ST) and route recognition but a little iffy about his C.O.D. in such a wide open space. That and his short area quicks - like that twitch and instant acceleration. More the agility though. Plus, again he's much more comfortable coming down hill. He does take proper angles and showed off some range but not sure if he's able to change direction quick enough next level and be that last line of defense.
I think he'll stick bc of his versatility and think teams will try to utilize that first. His ability to tackle in space, very sound, blitz / TFL, play the run, cover TE / nickel. Play that shallow zone underneath / seam. Very good against OZ - Stretch runs. Starts with recognition but he'll shoot through and can get vertical pretty easy. Very comfortable playing those leverage routes from the slot. Good in man.
He does have plus route recognition though. Plus instincts. Seems like a smart player. Didn't give up a lot of big plays.
I'm curious how he'd move with a few more pounds packed on bc I think he's a SS next level. I think he's a lot better playing things in front of him. 6'3 200 he could add and might need to if he's splitting time in the box in the NFL.
I wouldn't be surprised if a few of their defenders in the secondary are on my list this year.
For Dev I'm looking at Dax Hill. Football player through and through. Smart well spoken. Tough. Easy mover with loose hips. Should run 4.3-4.4 Should test well. Can line up anywhere at Saf, nickel isn't afraid to get dirty playing the run. Very good range. Plus instincts. I think he fill that role with some luck as Dev has been great here for a long time.
Resets and moves the los regularly. Wins with core strength, lateral ability and active - strong hands. Wins against doubles / duo blocks by moving laterally, focusing on one block making it half man rush if he can. Rarely fooled vs the run. Always in his lane. Quick to ID.
His first step isn't great but he's another easy mover for a dude playing around 330-340. Came onto uconn at 360 with 30% body fat. Surprisingly agile and smooth for a big dude. When he's in front of you it's not so easy to stop someone that big that can move. Plus effort motor and fight.
Plus hands with lots of pop. Active but usually strikes with really good initial placement. Decent counters. Has to get a little quicker overall but again just efficient movements at a huge size.
Ideal 1/0 tech. Could be just what we need next to Barmore. A space eater that move laterally and also contribute vs the pass. Definitely not his strong suit but again he can move and he's a worker. Really just besting blocks but can cross face. Has a little push/pull with swim. Utilizes length well benches guys at times. Uses some hesi moves.
Good versatility can play 0-5 any time. Local kid.
Jones, Hill, Monday and McCreary will probably all be on my board though.
Yo this guy was just a name a few years ago. Every year we see these crazy names. God bless black mothers bc they just don't care. Remember De'coldest Crawford? He's one I'll never forget lol. Smoke is legit though and can ball. What do you think about Smoke Monday in the 4th if Devin retires in the offseason

He's been on top my list since I put it out last year. Pro ready vs run and easily his best asset as a prospect. One guy we need to consider if we want a Davis type of player is Travis Jones out of UConn. He is sth around 6‘4 and 330, really strong anchor in the run defense but also provides pocket push on passing downs which is not really often for those „fatties“. @BaconGrundleCandy or someone else have you looked into him so far ?
He should be available in the second but could be a riser since the DT isn’t the greatest again
