Content Post Words on things I watched, read & heard II

This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.
How long before Urban is gone? The NFL can not be happy with Jacksonville. Perennial bottom feeder drafting in the lottery. The Urban thing looked and felt bad from the start and for good reason. There's been talk of players and coaches divided. Coaches losing respect. The offense has been one big mess after the other as a whole. Lots of people including myself thought the jags had some weapons coming into the year. They've been terrible. OL has been a mess. From the front office to the players and every one in between. Something feels off on every level. Not sure most fans esp new ones of a team like ours can fathom what's going on there.

The Pats just went 20 years of pure dominance. We lost Brady which still sucks but as bad as it was. We went 7-9, little fender bender. And now we're the #1 seed rn. Feeling a aside this isn't normal. Which is normal considering what we're used to as "normal."

The Jags were a pinto driven off a cliff into a dumpster fire. Urban tells his team peace after a loss. Doesn't travel with them to hit a 8 year senior in college. Decades of suck. Not the same.

Old Pats fan are special people bc we were that joke. Again Pats were NOT cool. No one wanted our gear or to even mention us.

Unbelievable turnaround.

I hate seeing teams like this though. Some unbelievable talent through there over the years. Awful picks made. No discipline, little plan. I mean you hire Urban Meyer to develop and work with Trevor Lawrence?

There's like 5 mins of plays like this frok the offense lol

"In my eyes, obviously, I'm the one that's out, see all the pieces moving, I see the whole picture," Lawrence said. "Bottom line is James is one of our best players and he's got to be on the field and we addressed it, and I feel like we're in a good spot and the whole team, we're good. Whatever may have happened, I honestly don't even know everything that went into it.

"I'm playing the game and stuff happens on the sideline with coaching decisions. I don't really get into that, but I know and I voiced my opinion: James is one of our best players and he's got to be in the game. I think we're all on the same page, so there's no confusion there. We're going to move forward. I know James is a hell of a player, so I want him out there."

They hate each other lol Supposedly Vrabel almost killed him after Meyers talked down to assistants all year.

@long distance were you in or out on Reddick in your thread about FA and such?

Who would we want to pair with Judon, realistically (anyone)?

I really wish I could rip Bill & Nicky for drafting Wino instead of Max Crosby… but I would’ve done the same thing back then… Too bad, because it’s beyond obvious now who the better pro is…

Further proof that Bill has lousy taste in friends.

Agreed but it was somewhat close going by my scale. Had a 2nd on Wino, 3rd on Maxx. Which surprised me. Usually I'm on point with grades going back to 2011 but completely forgot how he graded out. Thought he ended up with a 5th but was pleasantly surprised my scale is better at this than than me personally. I would have taken Wino as well though.

It pisses me off we used two high picks on speed rushers and it hasn't worked out but what can ya do.

The problem is imo that in Last years in the 2-4-5 starting defense those speed rushers could only be specialists and barely three down Players bc it is a lighter Front and they were liabilities in our run defense. This year we have better DT and sometimes play God-Davis-Guy or Barmore on early downs. That is why i thought we could use Uche or wino more this year bc we could use some Athletic there next to HT. I don’t know i barely see those two on the Field and i think we all Expected Uche to make a Jump this year

wudda, cudda, shudda. With Van Noy and Judon on the edge it's not likely those others will have a large role. Like Wino's effort, like Uche's possibilities but so far neither one has shown consistentcy.

Well one could think Uche HT Judon KvN could be the 4 man LB/DE group in our defense. Uche has unique skill set compared to the other guys

Agree

We have a demolition duo in Rham & Harris. Two big boys with vision, contact balance and power for days. One thing that's impressed me all year is Rham's ability to make it happen when there's nothing there. Getting 3-4 yards when he's met at line by defenders or squeezing through the tiniest holes. We've never seen it multiple weeks now, all year. Light quick feet showing up, LGB-feet but he runs with more power. I always joked Blount was a power back that didn't really run with power. Anyway Rham has been great. We're lucky to all three. Bolden deserves a ton of love for how he's replaced White.

Not to bump an old post, but I was just talking about this with a good friend of mine last night while we were watching the Chiefs/Chargers game (was catching up on last week games as well) and I said the exact same thing: Rham reminds me of Blount, but you're not crossing your fingers hoping he makes it to the second level without getting touched. That being said, once Blount hit the second level, he was a goddamn wrecking ball.

Do you have any place where you consolidate your musings? I'd love to share it with my friend. He and I just spend literal hours talking this kind of stuff and I'm sure he'd enjoy your analysis of players. However, while I have nearly a decade of experience on this website, he doesn't. And uh. It takes awhile to get used to the... Aggression, to put it lightly (still love y'all, but it is quite the cantankerous bunch here). So I don't want to send him sifting through the knitting circle of ****fits for your posts lol.

I can't wait for tonight.

I heard a ton of talk about how Wentz is "absolutely the better QB" coming into the week. Wentz is ahead of Mac in some areas (mobility with RPO, arm strength, ball fakes on RPO/PA) but Mac comes out ahead in comp %, YPA & QBR this year. I was just looking at some stats between Jones & Wentz vs top 10 defenses and Mac comes out ahead or right with the vet there too. Wentz has more freedom in terms of attacking the field and I mentioned a few other things above but this position battle is a lot closer than most have been making it out to be.

Colts have played and continue to play a good deal of zone and there's few better than McDaniels at clearing out, putting defenders in 2 on 1 situations in terms of picking their poison and stressing spatial awareness in zone coverage. It's no secret the Colts have been giving up yards to TE's. I expect that continue tonight but with our WR's maybe a few RB plays as well. Mac was great at attacking the MOF in college, top 2-3 passer in that area so we could see a big night there. Hoping we seeing Agholor targeted on a few crossers.

Including playoffs Pats at 18-2 after week 10, after a bye. Averaging 30 + giving up half that.

Colts have been killing the first quarter. Leading both scoring on their first possession and the quarter itself I believe. They could be second in both with how quickly some things change but they're up there and have setting the time early. Stopping them early will be key.

They won't ever give up the run tonight but I believe Bill will focus on that early rather than trying take away the pass. Their RPO game is as good as it gets in the league. They're believers when it comes to it so stopping run will be the priority early imo. It'll be interesting to see if Bill comes out with any three inside the tackle looks considering the Colts run game. They can run it up the middle but they love split / mid zone / outside zone. So taking away angles to the sideline, beating their tackles to the spots, keeping contain are key to stopping their run game.

The trenches are the obvious key to every game but this battle should be so fun to watch. Stars and big dogs on both sides. Pure physical dominance and a chess match with pressure - manipulated pressure. I can't wait for this fight.

Bill and Josh vs the Colts is always fun. I can't stand the Colts. Like I don't like the jete fins or bills but neither really move the needle for me. I can't stand the colts. Cry babies that like to get dramatic. Sure RKK has embarrassed himself but still you can't even compare him to that creature of an owner. How the handled Luck. The banner lol. C'mon I'm sure their fans are nice but that franchise is a loser.

Huge playoffs implications. Next week's game is enormous but make no mistake this game is big time!! Colts are fired up. It's obvious they feel a type of way and truthfully they should. That said they need this on paper. A L here makes things incredibly difficult on them in 2 weeks when push comes to shove for the playoffs.

Go Pats!!!

@BaconGrundleCandy or whoever want to answer.
For me it is hard to understand why we are seeing not much of Smith so far in our offense. What do you think is the reason behind this or do I have a wrong impression?
Yesterday Jones and Smith seemed like they do not connect well so far. I admit i epexted a lot more in the passing game. In Theory a Receiving TE with YaC ability should be a good friend of young qb. We seem to not use that mismatch so far a lot, do we? I have no idea , serious question

Especially when considering that our WRs as a group are bottom-8 in the entire league.

One thing I always mentioned concerning Smith is Arthur Smith. Smith was in his bag in Tennessee with the running game and working off that Smith.

I like the motion bc he's a bull when he's gets going. Give me 1 or 2 of those a game in each half. Maybe even a hand-off.

Another issue is we have a ton of MOF options. He does a ton of work underneath on crossers and routes that work that area. We have so many guys that do that so it might just be pecking order at this point in the season but I hear you. I wish he was a little more involved.

Yea exactly he's a "light" 230+ like Blount, nimble but quicker to lower the shoulder and lower to the ground. So he's already there. If he develops into a 3-4 rec RB along with what he is he struck gold. I want to see him get more passing opportunities.

I might look for these threads. Draft threads. It's not a good answer but my post are available for all to see in my profile.

I definitely have to be better when it comes to your last few sentences. I'm a little too sarcastic and rude.

Have Some thoughts on the pats defensive front / technique / general scheme vs certain types of offensive lines. The next step. The draft and early approach to it. Would really like to hear some feedback. I'll post tomorrow too tired but would like to see what people think regarding a few points.

Hi @BaconGrundleCandy - thanks for the thread. I watched Fields tonight because you wrote highly of him. I am not a talent evaluator, and don't see what you see, but maybe I am missing something. What I see is a guy who struggles if he has to progress to his second read, really struggles to fit the ball in tight spaces, and takes off running too early. I will agree with you that the running is not too bad because his eyes stay downfield, but his accuracy drops while moving unlike Mahomes, Wilson and others. His throws are sporadic, a great throw followed by a dud.

Maybe Fields settles down with time, but guys that struggle with their 2nd and 3rd reads seem to not improve greatly in my experience. Full disclosure, I am not excited by the running QBs and do not think they are the future. Too many injuries in my opinion lead to uneven results over the season. Wilson has a ring, Mahomes has a ring, but can they keep it up?

I noticed Rodgers and Brady seem to have a clock in their heads, and move forward but under control. Mac's clock is a little slow but he has begun to move which I find very encouraging. Fields, by contrast, takes off running as opposed to shifting and moving. Fields sometimes runs toward the sideline looking to throw but even then it looks like a busted play because Fields only looks at a small portion of the field.

Fields looks a lot more like a young Cam Newton to me then Rodgers, Mahomes or Wilson.

I hated Mac's throw across his body back against the grain on Sunday, but it was impressive that Mac was scanning the whole field and found a guy for a completion. IMO, Fields never makes that read, and I mean NEVER.

What did you see watching the Bears?

Regarding draft approach I‘d say we stay put at our spot probably between 20-32. if a player falls a bit and we only have to trade up 2-4 spots to get him and we really like him than I have no problem with a trade up. If we are uncertain about the available players to match the value of our spot then trade down and use the extra pick to trade up from third to end second or trade up in the second round depending who we like. I would rather picking us two times between 32-44 than just saying numbers here 24 und 56 if we think that this players is not completely worth our first rd spot.
Regarding players I think our biggest needs are OT CB FS ILB DE.
It depends of course what happens in FA.
I would not like to see having the need influence our strategy a lot in the early rounds. I suggest BPA here esp if someone falls down we really like
Some early names just spitting them out here

OT: Ekwonu Green Cross Kinnard Linderbaum
CB: Gardner McGreary Elam McDuffie
ILB: Dean Lloyd
De: Karlaftis Enagbare Jackson the PSU guy forgot his name
S: Brisquer Hill

Some I did not mention on purpose some i forgot need to get back to work
