Isn't that how it always goes though, until a few months before the draft and then these QBs become the hottest thing since ass-less chaps?
That happens sometimes, but not always. Usually there is at least one prospect worth taking high. And, as you point out, even when there's not really a guy worth grabbing, teams often talk themselves into reaching. But there are rare times when teams play it smarter than grabbing a QB in the top 5 (the E.J. Manuel and Jim Druckenmiller drafts come immediately to mind).
Edit: Doh! I forgot to toss in the Brady draft as an obvious example, where Pennington was the #1 QB taken, at 18.
