2021 Patriots draft picks.. Who are remains to be a winner/loser?

The same thing was said about Duron Harmon.

I thought Harmon was a good pick at the time.

Ras IR Dowling was a pretty controversial pick at the time due to how many bad injuries he had suffered prior to the draft. Ditto with Dominque Easily. These are one of my most hated picks.

I don't remember Cyrus Jones going nuts. I wasn't ecstatic about the pick, but it worth a shot to see if he turned into the next Devin Hester as Jones was a stud returner in College.

Both of those were irresponsible draft picks by the Patriots. Now apparently Easily was in demand at the end of the first round when we picked him but he was considered boom or bust and had already suffered significant injuries. It's just so hard to justify that pick in retrospect.

Ras IR Dowling was a pick we got from Charlotte (33 overall) after trading them the 89th the year before. What a trade that turned out to be - our third round in 2010 for their second in 2011! And I guess Bill thought the requests would be coming in from every team after each franchise had re-set their draft boards and we pick a huge bust. These two are the picks I get annoyed about even now and even after the Super Bowls the Pats have won since.

I know what you meant and didn’t misread it. Edelman never made a Pro Bowl or All Pro. He’s only had 1,000 yards 3 times and had 36 total TD’s. Wouldn’t shock me if the voters to get on the list see through his postseason performance as he had many opportunities. It’s hard for him to get consideration when he wasn’t even among the best of his generation.

Watson won’t even get consideration. Never made a Pro Bowl or All Pro. Was never considered the best among his position. He was an average to above average TE.

If the #13 player all time statistically at his position doesn't make it on the voting list, he'll be the only one that happened to.

Dowling had a knee injury that cost him about half his senior year, but he played 35 games his first three years.

Maybe I should have said "head case" or something for Jones, but he played well at Alabama and then seemed to forget how to play in Foxboro.

One thing we underrate about Belichick is that he has drafted a lot of players that will receive at least some consideration for the HOF. I'm listing the guys who had at least a Pro Bowl during their careers, but highlighting the ones that will probably make a HOF voting list:

Do you give Belichick credit for drafting Michael Jackson, Derrick Alexander and Eric Turner in Cleveland? Because these were Pro Bowl/All-Pro type players.

That's 9 players who will likely make the HOF voting list (for reference, 14 players were added this year to the list for voting this year).

At some point, "dynasty legacy" players get HOF consideration that may be "undue" compared with bigger contributors from lesser teams. The Patriots dynasty will be no different.

Edelman will hang around in the HOF discussion for years. So will McCourty and Hightower. None of them will get in (though Edelman should be a dead nuts lock over any of these loser volume stats WRs), but they will stick around as nominees for a long tie.

Early returns look great.

Need 2-3 years to really judge a draft for not just the player's production but how it relates to their draft position.

For some, yes, but as BB said, Lawrence Taylor was pretty obvious from the first day of training camp.

Agreed. I recall seeing a little tape of Harmon at the time and he showed some serious closing speed; it jumped off the screen and was darn impressive. I also recall Mel Kiper mentioning (at the time Harmon was drafted) that he heard teams were putting on film in order to watch Logan Ryan and came away asking who this Harmon guy is.

I'm glad we had both of them here for awhile.

I disagree. Easley was unblockable at Curtis even using double teams with FBS scholly lineman. Then he was a complete stud at Florida. He was quick, fast and extremely strong. He ran PSAL track at about 260 pounds and was an excellent shot putter, just an amazing overall athlete. He was basically a somewhat lesser DL version of the injury prone Gronk, who turned out pretty well. Easley’s Achilles killed his career.

Bledsoe being activated to the roster is a pretty decent sign they see something in him - imagine it's on special teams to start with, but if he can be a really good special teamer who might develop into a rotational player on D, that would be great for a 6th rounder!

Excited to see what Perkins/McGrone can do next year - extremely lucky that we can afford to effectively "redshirt" guys like these and get them up to speed with the playbook, a year in an NFL weight programme etc.
