OT: Raiders WR Henry Ruggs fatal suspected DUI crash; (update: Desean Jackson to replace him on Raiders…lol)

Don't want to sound insensitive of the situation but I would claim him if he clears wavers right now. He is still a kid. 22 yrs old I believe. I think he will end up getting 18 to 24 months which will make him available at age 24. I believe Stallworth went though the a similar situation.

Handle/post. Hard ****ing disagree.

driving 150MPH under the influence at 3:50AM..what could go wrong?...let him rot in jail

156mph......hammered.....with guns in the car...at 3:39am

Curious to know what Saban said during the pre-draft about his character and off-the-field decision-making ability.
THIS is the information the Raiders must have had to have cut him so quickly. It made no sense otherwise. When the Raiders think your toast, you ARE done.

Young and dumb is NOT rare, but in this case it is going to cost this young dumb young man a significant portion of his life on the outside, not to mention a young woman's life.

Reading the news reports, I am just stunned at the stupidity of people. driving that fast in a residential neighborhood?!?!? athletic skills and money still can't fix stupid.
And the mother of his child on the seat next to him. Guess he really just doesn't give a **** about anything or anybody.

I’d think speeding at 160 mph in a commercial/industrial area and causing a death would be a major crime regardless of DUI, no?
Yes, the speed alone would constitute vehicular manslaughter adding things like criminal negligence, reckless disregard for life, etc.
Also, I believe the blood draw becomes an issue when the BAL drops below the threshold, so if you were actually driving with a .14 but hours later you’re around .08, then issues of accuracy/proof come into play. If pulled 2X the legal limit after all that time, should be solid.
States have all sorts of weird rules regarding these blood draws, especially when done without consent. The defense lawyer will no doubt go through every single step in the chain of custody from the draw to the lab to the results, and then try to make a mountain out of any molehill of inconsistency or irregularity.

You're crazy

Not sure if this was discussed earlier in the thread, but Donte Stallworth drove under the influence and killed a 59 year old man in 2009. He was sentenced to 30 days in prison. The NFL suspended him for the 2009 season and he came back in 2010. It's not exactly the same scenario (driving only 10 MPH over the limit), but there is a possibility Ruggs comes back depending on what the prosecutors/judge do to him. If it's a light sentence, then yeah, Ruggs can sign with another team down the road.
In this age of the NFL I have my doubts he ever steps foot on the field even if he serves time closer to the 2 yrs minimum if convicted.

hes rich most of you are living in fantasy if you think he even gets close to 10 years
He is rich, but he’s not rich enough to skate on this. First off he’s a rookie who signed a 4 year 16.67 million deal. He played a year in a half. Ignoring taxes he probably got around 6 or 7 million of that and obviously much less when you factor in taxes. He’s going to be liable to lose most of his earnings in a civil suit, plus legal expenses and any fines he will incur.

Then this is pretty open and shut. They have blood work proving he was impaired which is about the most rock solid proof of that you can get. The car computer also is about as accurate as you can get for proving that as well. They pretty much have him dead to rights on a charge that guarantees two years at the minimum.

Then the reckless driving charge resulting in death is more years he could potentially be looking at and it’s another felony.

Also bring intoxicated with a loaded weapon could be added on.

You could also bring endangerment charges for injuring his girlfriend and I’m sure there’s some civil or legal recourse for the dogs death.

With what he is looking at and how the DUI resulting in death can’t be plead out of or paroled, he’s already starting from jump at 2 years. That’s a non negotiable 2 years. 5 years is just 25% of the potential sentence on the first charge. If a judge wanted to make an example out of him he could keep in prison until he’s pushing 50.

His best case scenario is his lawyer working a deal where he pleads guilty to the DUI charge for something on the low end they drop everything else, he settles civil matters with the family by giving away pretty much his entire career earnings, and promises to spend years doing community service and being an advocate to prevent driving under the influence.

And if a DA came to him and said, we will make that deal at exactly 5 years…. that would be exceptionally generous. His lawyer would be a fool not to get him take it. He’d get out in his mid 20’s, he’d have the rest of his life to look forward to and would still be young, he’d have a minuscule shot of getting back in the NFL or at least maybe doing some arena stuff. Because there is no way in hell with what he has going against him that he or his lawyer has any business of consisting a trial.

I wish the family of the 23 year that died, my deepest condolences.

I would advise that family to hire the absolute best attorneys they can because you know the players association is going to have the best attorneys that money can buy.

No, it shouldn't.
I respectfully disagree. I'm not normally one to pile on, we all have faults and I've done some really, really dumb things in my life, and I don't think I'm alone in that.

....But, who drives 160 miles per hour through a residential area at 3:40 am? Being drunk makes it way, way worse, but it is completely unacceptable anyway. Does he have that little regard for the welfare of others?

This guy is a menace to society, and what he did to that poor young lady who burned to death is horrible.

He needs to have a complete life reset, IMHO.

I don't think the Players' Association gets involved if a player is sued in civil court by an outside party. He is on his own in that regard. Ruggs himself will certainly hire the best lawyer money can buy though. (It seems the Las Vegas Top Golf might want to consider doing the same)

And, if he's found guilty, he'll be penalized by the appropriate jurisdiction. But the NFL is not the criminal justice system, and people need to stop acting as if it's alright that it acts as if it is.

It depends on the choices he makes from now. Need to serve his time, proper atonement. If his tragic situation does not eat him up, he can come back. He has made a terrible mistake. The way I see it, he should come back from this, come play in the NFL and hopefully make more money to pay restitution to the family of the girl he killed. Money can't replace life but it does help with the pain especially if used to serve others.

Anyone who's been to Vegas knows you can get hammerfaced and stumble into a taxi or uber on accident... How incredibly dumb do you have to be, i mean really

Man I've been so sh*tfaced in Vegas I couldn't tell you what planet I was on. That's why I either get drunk in the hotel I'm staying at or let my girlfriend be the designated driver - which she will also be for me when I go to the casino this Friday. I'll be the drunk ******* at the 1/2 table losing all his money.

Ruggs is going to jail, the only question is how long? I would be shocked if he does less than 5 years. He will also be broke because whatever money he has made, he is going to lose in any civil suit. I can guarantee right now, Ruggs is busy hiding his money.

No excuse for driving 150 mph, not anywhere, especially a city street. He basically ran into the back of some poor woman and trapped her and her dog in the car as they burnt to death!

The Top Golf in Vegas is just off the strip near the Hard Rock (yeah, I might have been to Vegas a few (maybe more than a few times). It is between the strip and the airport, even at 3 am, you would be able to find at least 100 cabs. He has no excuse for what he has done!

Considering the cost of his car coupled with the fact that he was still on a rookie deal, he’s probably already close to broke.

I won’t pretend I didn’t think of that.

Yeah, I mean if he’s driving a whip like that, I can only imagine the house that he bought. Not smart financial decisions but, then, the decision and speed of the accident proves he isn’t really a smart guy altogether. What a shame.
