Absolutely. Good call.Let's bring back fat shaming.
He led them in tackles last year if i remember correctly? and played well the year before that with us so that should count for something?"Cut by the Detroit Lions" should be one way to reset one's expectations.
I think there's a misunderstanding of the role Collins is going to play here maybe? Most thought LB, but maybe it's actually supposed to be weight management consultant, media engagement engineer, and body image champion? How did a thread about Jamie Collins turn into a discussion about representation in media?
It’s not likely. D. Wise is the primary 3rd DT and didn’t you hear Chris Collinsworth say that he’s the Pats’ best defender? We are looking at the Boogeyman lb/de group plus Judon and Uche.
Hoping this means the 3 DT defense gets abandoned.
Really surprised at some of the negativity to this. We need depth and speed.
I don't disagree, but I just can't picture in my mind's eye how we got from Jamie Collins to here. I could just read the thread, but I'm not going to do any work.Nothing wrong with that- could even be educational as we analyze how body-shaming came to be such an effective money-milking machine. I read an interesting story a while ago about the time television first came to Polynesia. Prior to the arrival of TV, Polynesian women had no idea what dieting or makeup was. They didn't distinguish between being thin or fat.
I think Belichick's basic plan on defense goes back to Super Bowl 25 when the Giants defeated the favored Bills. As defensive coordinator, he decided to let Thurman Thomas run and to limit the effectiveness of Jim Kelly's passing. It worked and has been his go to scheme ever since when facing a good quarterback. Against mediocre and poor QBs, he'll stop the run and force them to beat you.The Pats offense also went from scoring 40-30 points a game to scoring in the teens during the same time period… the defense was built to defend the Chiefs, to defend the pass.
Bill is largely unconcerned with the run… which is fine when your offense is scoring points and forcing your opponents into shootouts and having to pass. The offense failed so the defense couldn’t play to their strengths.
No. I don't think it is. He didn't do jack with the Pats in the 2nd half of 2019. His subpar play was one of the reasons that they were 1 and done. The fact that the Lions were so quick to jettison him despite their defensive woes tells me plenty. Maybe he'll surprise me. I doubt it.I hear the concerns but waste of space is a bit rich, dont you think?
I too wanted to see Uche slide into Collins role but for whatever reason that did not happen . even with injuries and subpar play of other LBs.
Collins has never been an ILB for the Pats. Not ever. He's lined up at OLB all the time. So he doesn't actually solve the MLB/ILB Depth Problem. Also this LB group desperately needs depth not only bc of injuries but bc Langi & Tavai can't be fully trusted on D & also added versatility to move pieces around. Lateral D/speed is still an issue and thats Collins speciality - hopefully he still has it..
Uche has been earning it. He's been the 2nd best OLB behind Judon. He's been significantly better than Winovich and Van Noy. All you're doing is taking snaps from them. You're not taking snaps from Hightower or Bentley with this addition.High and KVN look like they've lost a step or two. If Collins ignites some spark there thats a well worth signing.
btw - Uche can still grow into bigger role . but its better he earns it.
The 2nd half of 2019 begs to differ. He seems to play his best when he's with the Pats. Not the worst of moves.

Good one. It’s not likely. D. Wise is the primary 3rd DT and didn’t you hear Chris Collinsworth say that he’s the Pats’ best defender?
The law of distraction. How did a thread about Jamie Collins turn into a discussion about representation in media?
He may honestly be one of the best LBs on the team at this moment. Van Noy has either been hurt or ineffective when playing, Hightower has just been plain ineffective (hopefully just rusty), and Bentley has been OK but currently hurt. So I can see a pathway for Collins to take a lot of snaps in little time, if he is who we hope he is and isn’t an apparent shell of his former self like the other two 2019 Boogeymen seem to be right now.I'm an unabashed Collins stan.
When he's mentally locked in and physically fit/healthy, he's probably my favorite player to watch, ever. There are few players that genuinely have left me awestruck in ways that Collins has.
