OT: Official 2021 Tompa Bay Gronkaneers Thread

It wasn't just the contract issue but the talent deficiency. The Pats would have had to go all in to try and win over the last few years with Brady. The Bucs have done this (also the Ramd). But it is not in BB's DNA to do that. He doesn't prioritize the short term over the medium and long term.

Anyways, it's also increasing looking like the talent wasn't the only issue as it looks like the McDaniels offence also has to evolve to today's NFL.
Agree. BB is on record as saying they did go all in the last few years Tom was here but I think his definition of all-in and all-in like the Rams, Colts, Falcons, Ravens is different. He isn't going to mortgage/risk the future for one or two years.

The fact that Brady completed almost 75% of his passes and nearly 450 yards without Brown against a good defense not even concerned about the run has me extremely confident in a rematch.

Imagine Stafford facing the #1 defense on the road, falling into a multiple possession deficit with a sieve defense, and being told he’ll need to score on every possession using a 90% pass/run ratio. Can’t imagine how ugly that would get.

But the irony is he did mortgage/risk the future. The team now has an even worse long-term outlook. Because he tried a “reset” without much draft capital, a lottery ticket draft pick QB, and because he passed on signing his own top market players (Brady, Gronk, Gilmore, Thuney) he went into this offseason in the worst case scenario of having way too much cap space to spend inefficiently. This is why I keep connecting his decisions in 2019/20 with this offseason. It isn’t a good thing to have that much money to spend, and we’re seeing those results.

Meanwhile, big cap hits he passed on (for productive players) could have easily been pushed into this year. He still spent every dollar, just on much worse players. And now the team’s future is really screwed due to all these overpriced, multi-year deals, and even worse, a gigantic question mark at QB.

The mortgage/risk for the future seems backwards here. It was a greater risk to try a rebuild with almost no draft assets, no QB succession plan, and few young, cornerstone homegrown players to build around.

1 year...and that was to keep Tom happy. Can't have it both ways.

No it doesn't.

Bill planned on reloading in 2021. Making a final judgement on the FAs after 3 games is silly.

I don't agree. Can't draft All-Pros every year to replenish when they are picking in he bottom 4/5ths of every round since forever. I swear people used to think Bill **** gold.

You are right about that...

The team doesn't look worst off? My god.

LMAO the Chiefs signed Josh Gordon. That’s so embarrassingly desperate.

Low risk high reward potentially...although they should look at their defense more than the offense

Agree completely. Stafford was good but not great at all. Doesn't mean they can't win it all but we will see. Same thing with GB last night. It's funny I was actually shocked he was able to get them in FG range in 40 seconds. That's how anti-clutch he's been in his career. The jumped up and down like he won the SB. Nice win though I'll give it to them. SF couldn't figure out that Adams needed to be stopped on that drive but they still made the plays and then probably had a parade this morning to celebrate.

SF also didn’t have a rb this game

I just had a very high expectation of Evans. I wasn't expecting him to be Randy Moss making lots of "wow" plays. But at 6'5" with the draft pedigree and the stats to back him up, I expected it every now and then. Don't get me wrong, he is a dependable and solid player as they come.

AB on the other hand, he gives that "wow" factor and is a threat to take any play for a TD.

I don’t know if you guys follow the Buccaneers guys on YouTube (you should there awesome) but basically Evans weakness is YAC he goes down easily on plays he should be getting big gains on

There is no reward. He’s just not good anymore. We went though this for 2 years. The Seahawks went through this. He’s done.

Also the Chiefs is a horrible environment for him and he’ll be off the wagon sooner or later.

Is it just me or does it seem like whenever Brady wins a Super Bowl, next years team always get hit by the injury bug, and usually to one or two key players.

They got enough depth at WR...they need JPP back he is an energy booster

Scottie Miller is about the last player they need to worry about.

Total defense: 26th (402.0 yards/game)

Pass defense: 31st (338.3)

Scoring defense: 27th (29.3)

3rd-down defense: 29th (53.2 percent)

Sacks: T-30th (3)

Completion percentage: T-28th (72.2)

We used to have a horrible bend don't break defense for years but it was never that bad. Going to be interesting to see if they can drastically improve 3rd down and red zone defense at the least.
