Brady Sr. Says what I’ve been saying all along.

I expected him to punt by saying he’s not goimg to discuss a player who isn’t umder contract, or some other reason. Instead, he tried to score his PR points via an excuse in trying to insinuate the Patriots made a big push to keep Brady. Then after Curran calls him out, he does his typical “I already explained it” BS defense.
Need to process what BB said differently by adding timelines.

BB wanted to keep Tom after the 2018 season.

Once BB determined Tom wanted X,Y, Z and was not going to be happy here he did not want to keep him after the 2019 season.

Yep. BB stonewalled him.

Not unexpected.
Unless you think Bill is a liar, this is 100% opposite to what you've been saying that Bill didn't want him here.

Wasn't the word on the street that BB never even called Brady to discuss the situation? If that's true it's a pretty weak attempt.
Word is they spoke on the phone and Bill told him: "we want you to stay but you're going to have to take a pay cut." The famous call that "didn't go well."

Belichick not only saying he’s unwilling to pay brady $25 million a year (which is still like $10 mill under his market value btw) but saying he needs to take a paycut is unforgivably insulting.

See what I said to Ice Ice. Bill is not lying but he is playing a timeline game.

Timeline game? No. They are specifically talking about end of 2019 not 2018.

Question was about "keeping Brady" once he went into FAcy. Bill said he did want to keep him. Of course he didn't want to get into specifics because he asked him to take a haircut as a condition for "wanting him to stay."

Correct.

The "offer" Bill is referring to is the same one that was on the table at the end of the 2018 season or slightly modified.

You know how this team rolls. They aren't going to bid against themselves.

There was no new offer at the start of FA nor was there a counter-offer once TB pitched Tom.

Bill is playing semantics.

The key is Bill said he "wanted" him to stay. Of course for a one year deal at less money than the season prior. Who wouldn't want the Goat for that price? It is clear that Bill did not make any type offer to make Brady feel wanted or a deal that Brady could not easily surpass on the open market. He is being very duplicitous IMO.

You just don’t like what they’re saying so, in typical cancel culture fashion, you want them to shut up and for Brady to shut them down. But the fact remains - both are outsiders. Only Brady and Belichick know what the truth is.

Look how much energy you’ve wasted in this thread just to avoid admitting that you don’t care about being logically consistent because one guy is still on the team and the other isn’t. What a waste of time.

Coming back to this I've somewhat lost track what we're arguing about but I agree only BB and Brady (plus Kraft) know the bottom line. The point I've been trying to make is that the BB-Brady situation is too enmeshed and complicated to be seen in black-and-white as so many here have tried to characterize it by pitting one against the other as "right" and the other "wrong." I think both parties likely had good reasons behind their positions leading to the split, which was unfortunate no matter how you cut it: ideally, Brady should have ended his career a Patriot.

I just don't buy the notion that Guerrero and Tom Sr. are giving media interviews on sensitive topics like this without Tom's prior knowledge and perhaps even his blessing/encouragement. It's telltale that missing from this is Tom addressing it all in a forthright way, especially since Sr. acknowledged to Curran his son shares his views.

It's not the substance of what Brady's surrogates are saying I take issue with as much as context (or lack thereof) and the fact they come across as kind of petty at this late stage. Tom winning the Super Bowl and still playing QB at a high level should be enough "statement" in itself.

That's a little harsh. No need to go all Kevin Mannix on BB.

I think prevaricating is more appropriate.
Ok. I admit I had to look up that word. LOL. I thin it goes beyond being evasive. He is being evasive but why? Because he is being duplicitous.

He is being evasive because despite his press conferences he is very mindful of PR.

It's kinda like Obi-Won Kenobi telling Luke Skywalker Darth Vader killed his father. When Luke called him out, Obi-Won gave that, "from a certain point of view...." horse ****.

Hes not going to come out and say he wanted Tom at the end of 2018 and not at the end of 2019- especially when he's 8-11 since he left.

LOL. I agree but do you believe Bill wanted him at the end of 2018? It was reported Brady wanted a multi-year extension but was told to go year to year.

Yes. I believe Bill wanted him at a price and a deal length to his liking so it wouldn't screw up the cap.

Once Tom started to get all miserable, crying to Kraft etc Bill said **** i'm done.

Are you really citing the cap? Really?

Who are you? Felger?

Tom already counted $13.5m in 2020 before a potential deal. Bill didn't want a~ $30m cap charge for a 43 y/o QB for a mediocre 2020 team or a bunch of dead money in future years.

He wanted to rebuild in 2021 and Tom would have taken up ~15% of it.

“cap space can be manipulated in a variety of ways” is LITERALLY a Bill quote. But I guess he forgot he ever said that.
Yes as long as he thinks it makes sense and doesn't hamstring him.

No. The cap is a consideration but when you are dealing with your best player who is also the GOAT, you make the cap to fit him. In other words, if you really wanted him then you make other adjustments to ensure you get Brady done. It's not like Brady was asking to be the highest paid QB like Rodgers. He was looking for approx. half of Mahomes value. He just wanted the years not $40 mil/year. So the cap is bogus IMO. You don't cite the cap when it comes to the most important position on the field and you have the Goat.

Of course but this is HIS decision. He chose that option over a long term deal and that has been the case since 2017. It's fine that he doesn't want to do certain things with the cap or this or that. None of that actually matters to the point. He chose to let the player walk and was wrong. He was very wrong. It's like we traded Brady in 2009 cause it all looked bad and claimed we could never rebuild with him quickly. He made a huge mistake. Trying to explain why or what he was thinking has no bearing on the fact that he let Brady walk. It's his job to keep these players and keep them happy. People simply saying that's not 'his style' or whatever, fine! But that's not an excuse!
