NFL GAME DAY DISCUSSION Other NFL games week 1 thread

Chandler Jones put up 5 sacks today.

I forget who in past threads was trying to diss the guy but he's clearly been one of the best pass rushers of the past 10 years, and justifiably made the all decade NFL team. Future hall of famer
2 forced fumbles as well.

Lots of people on here dismiss him.

They actually say with a straight face they’d rather have Trey Flowers who has search parties desperately trying to locate him going on 3 years now.

That would be everyone.

That would be everyone.

I think there were a couple of us in the Trade for Chandler thread talking about how the guy was a future hall of famer. Some homers here get so much tunnel vision they can't evaluate players objectively.

It remains to be seen, but Payton is a much better coach than Arians. After watching Arians the past year or so it's apparent he does nothing and lets his assistants do all the coaching.

and his QB too...Brady & Bowles Movement are the real coaches down there.

I've seen media members all at some point rip Brees, Brady, and even Mahomes at times, to shreds. Never Rodgers. This guy gets so many excuses made for him. Specifically by Stephen A and Kellerman's of the world. Rob Parker too. I'm done with ESPN & FSN.

What's the excuse for the Seattle playoff loss in 2014 after he was gifted 5 turnovers? Or last year at home after his defense got three turnovers? How about getting beat by all time greats like Kap & Eli at Lambeau in January?

Just like Favre, people are so enamored with the talent that they just forget he hasn't gotten it done.

I hate to say that I wish for someone to fail. But I've consistently found myself hoping this guy fails in big spots. His personality leaves alot to be desired too.

Pats fans love to say “he wasn’t clutch”

“smoked synthetic marijuana” meanwhile these same people did lines of coke with their buddies in college

Chandler Jones should have netted minimum first round pick in return and I’m not playing captain hindsight here

Elite player who even at the time he left it was clear this was a guy not on the decline. He's a hall of fame player. Those 2009-2012 drafts were so good and carried the team for those last 3 rings. Have to keep replenishing the crappy draft cupboard from 2013-2019.

Kettle, meet pot...

Pats fans will hate this opinion..

Chandler Jones will go down as our best defensive draft pick of past 30 years..

his career is arguably better than wilfork McGinnist and even Seymour. Tough to compare with Ty Law different positions and I loved Law.

Fellow degenerates you going Ravens ML or Raiders at +4 tonight?

Heh…

Chandler Jones’ third sack of the game gave him 100 for his career. He became the eighth player since the NFL began tracking sacks to reach triple digits in career sacks in the first 125 games of his career, according to ESPN Stats & Information research.

His time-to-sack average was 3.48 seconds, which was his second-fastest time-to-sack average in a game where he had multiple sacks since NFL Next Gen Stats started tracking the stat in 2016.

"He was unblockable most of training camp to the point where it's like, 'Hey, we can only pass when he's out of game' type of deal," Kingsbury said after the game. "He was awesome. So, I didn't know if he'd have five, but I knew he would impact the game. There was no doubt."

I think you are over simplifying many of the folks arguments. I will pre-face that I don't neccesarily disagree with your stance. However it's not cut and dry.

Jones is a liability against the run. In this system that is a problem. Other teams/coaches are willing to give a guy like Jones freedom to free lance and live with the consequences. Bill is not. Sacks are nice and fun to watch. But as a whole are bit overrated.

Then when you take his drug incident where he was running around the parking lot of whatever it was Foxboro Police or fire station completely nude. Suddenly you become a concern and a liability.

Flowers in our system played to the system and excelled. Was stout against the run, kept the play inside of him and managed a few sacks along the way. And if memory serves me well had plenty of pressures. He is just one of many examples of players that excel here and fail elsewhere.

The biggest thing, IMO, that sets BB apart from most other coaches is his ability (along with the coaching staff and scouts) to identify what a player does well and the majority of the time only put the player in a position requiring him to do just those things. He doesn't take an edge rusher and try to make him a run stopper, barring injury and roster options.

There is a reason Wino is a one trick pony this season or at least thus far. Assuming the edge guys all stay healthy Wino is not going to be on the field for many 2nd and 3rds.

Between him and Flowers - how did we not sign either one???

“Sacks are overrated”

lol tell that to Reggie White and Bruce Allen. Anyone who gets 20 sacks a year is a force to be reckoned with

secondly, Jones leads the nfl every year in forced fumbles and is one of league leaders in tackles FOR LOSS

There is a reason he is a finalist for defensive player of the year

if our system can’t handle a talent like that ..then change it!!!

Some guys are worth what you pay for. TJ Watt..80 million guaranteed. Did you see what he did to Josh Allen yesterday??
