Bravo to Bill. I gotta say I didn't really know if he'd go with the idea that Cam gave him the best chance to win now and that was the most important thing to him. Glad to see that BB still uses his eyes and doesn't go with hive-think. I bet his presser will be filled with praise of Cam but actions speak louder than words, he just kicked him to the curb. BB is still a cut-throat at heart.

It's funny, I don't see it as a cut-throat move at all. It would have been difficult for all concerned to have a such a charismatic and accomplished QB sitting on the bench behind a rookie who is bound to have ups and downs. Not to mention that Newton had an incentive-laden contract that he would have watched slowly drip away. Sometimes it's more respectful to release the veteran.

What surprised me were fans who thought Cam should start and be pulled after a few bad games. The Pats can't afford to throw away a couple a games when they will most likely be on the play-off bubble this year. Start the rook, the more game action he sees the faster he will mature. Why start Cam this season and not make the play-off? That's a waste of a year for Mac.

Ive been on this site long enough to know that if and when mac screws up that same people that were trashing cam will turn on mac and start posting that we should have never cut cam.

Some have them waiting and watching from the bench and others out there with the wolves.

Remember, no rookie QB has won a playoff game started on opening day in 20 years and there's a good reason for that. Some rookie QBs who turned out to be stars had a really ugly year one - Peyton Manning comes to mind.

This is what other teams go through with rookies. Gotta be patient with the kid. If it's another losing season watching Brady win another SB - so be it. I think this kid might have what it takes to get us another ring in the not too distant future and I'm on board for the ride. Buckle up.

It isn’t just about record, if Mac Jones plays just Justin Herbert last year I will cheer him even if the team goes 7-10 similar to how the Chargers season went.

I‘m not shocked. I thought Bill would hold onto him, but Cam never fit the scheme in NE and didn’t get much better this preseason. Mac was better from what I saw. In another thread, I listed 10 or should reasons why Mac should start. A clean break makes sense.

He will get evaluated for his play and his contribution to winning and losing. As always some will be knowledgeable in that analysis, some will not, some with be forthright about it, some will not.

Man, it seems like only yesterday that everybody was laughing about what BS Belichick was peddling by "not naming a starter" when it was SO obvious that Newton was starting, even though Jones was obviously the better choice and somehow stubborn Bill was the only person in the world not to accept it because he loved Newton blindly and unconditionally.

If Jones goes Herbert, this is a 13 or 14 win team. Personally, I just want him to make the right reads and grow as the season progresses.
