Definitely not an overreaction . . .

Mac Jones is Drew Bledsoe without the cannon.

Slow and holds the ball too long as if posing for a statue.
Without the Bledsoe cannon, Yup.
You need to watch the games.
But Mac moves very well in and out of the pocket buying time.
Made some rookie mistakes holding the ball too long but one instance his own OL backed into him unforced.
Also Mac has touch on his passes, something The Statue never had. Could not throw the screen pass.

Secondly Sowflake, Mac looks like a back up out there.
This seems to be a personal attack and not based in fact.

Pro tip - stick to just facts. For example, if he had backed out of repaying a debt related to a bet, you could call rightfully call him a welcher because that’s a well established fact.

Over on reddit, someone called Jones "the Voluptuous Viper."
Apparently they read Dingleberry's "I wanna be a porn star" post and dragged Mac into that discussion somehow.

Voluptuous and football...?????

I'm not sold like all the Homer's on here that are pro Mac
pro and anti depend on what the options are.

Cam is a known. After an initial honeymoon last year, he blew large chunks of vomit.

I am pro Mac because

1) right now, as a FLOOR, it seems to me like he would be as productive as Cam
2) right now, as a CEILING, it seems to me like he would be WAY MORE productive than Cam
3) He doesn't get closer to the ceiling by sitting, he gets there by PLAYING.

5 sacks, most of which came last night. He was with our 2s against their 1s, and he was moving around trying to find an open player. I don't mind it too much. I suspect in the regular season, he'd be instructed to throw away the ball or get it to a checkdown. Maybe he just didn't want to risk an interception and preferred to just eat the sack. Not the worst thing I've seen. He took care of the ball and still put up the most yards and most completions of any rookie quarterback this preseason.
If people would objectively go back and re-watch last night's game, they'll see that 2 of the sacks were the results of Linemen backing into Jones. Karras was on skates last night and was continuously pushed backwards. One time he was pushed right back into Jones leading to a sack. Another sack came when Cajuste backed into Jones despite not being engaged with a defender. It was one of the most perplexing things I've seen.

People seem to forget just how many sacks Brady took his rookie year and in his first few years. From 2001- 2006, Brady never took less than 26 sacks and his 2001 season he took 41. Hell, despite the O-lines Brady has had, he's only taken less than 20 sacks in 2 seasons (not including 2008). They were 2009 and 2016.
Exactly. Taking a sack is something that a lot of young qbs actually have to learn. Throwing up a prayer or trying to throw it away when the pocket collapses are great ways to turn the ball over. Brady would give himself up all the time when there was too much pressure.

It's easy to say, "he needs to throw it away/ make quicker decisions," but that depends on your OL not allowing pressure from multiple directions and your wrs getting open. One throw that stood out was the defensive holding on the pass to Wilkerson. Mac got the ball away in time when there was pressure in his face, and it looked like he would have hit him in stride, over the top of the safety. That's how you get a defense to stop stacking the box.

Google Mac Jones hips.

I like what I see overall from Mac and want him to start, but doesn't really "wow" you in any way just yet. The ball gets there, but his arm strength needs to improve (zip in particular). In fact, some intermediate passes looks like he puts all his strength into it. His playing style looks like Eli Manning.

With that being sad, he has won the starting job without question. Cam just doesn't look like he fits in with the offense.

Yes exactly. Eli is a good analogy. He's really straining to throw it with zip. It's fine as his strength will get better past his rookie year. And his looping deep balls are great. But the kid clearly needs a year to grow and develop a NFL body.

Are you sure you're not referring to Cam? It's night and day between how long Cam holds the ball (a looong time) vs. Mac.

I have been trying to figure fire out who Cam Newton reminds me of as a QB, and now I know, it’s the big wooden Indian on Route 1 in Freeport Maine. Fricking Doppelgängers.

I can't get over cams delivery. I think his release point is what throws me for a loop. The release just seems to come well after the ball hits it's high-point. It legitimately seemed to befuddle the camera crews at points last year as well.

It becomes much more apparent after watching a series of cam and then watching Jones. Jones seems to have a damn good grip on the offense he has been told to run. Well beyond anything I expected from a condensed camp in a rookie year. His delivery is quick and far from the mess we witnessed last year. He isn't going to blow anyone away with his arm strength, but he is far from a Pennington type noodle arm. He looks like a franchise qb. What caliber franchise qb remains to be seen.

It really looks like he's throwing/aiming a javelin and there doesn't seem to be much timing involved with his passes. It's like he's watching and waiting for guys to break off their routes THEN heaves it vs. Mac quickly throwing to where the receiver is supposed to be.

There were a few late deliveries on easy plays week 2 from Cam. He has no touch or timing. He is a great example of arm talent falling into bad habits. And to the mental toughness aspect brought up earlier:

For all the worrying about whether or not Mac is "putting everything he has into every throw," it seems fairly reasonable to assume that w/o the natural gift, his delivery/strength will be something focused on.

Triumph always reminded me of this shtick

Very funny

Cam can only throw 10-15 yard bullet passes. At some point it's also OC idiocy to not call plays that maximize this. The anticipation is just different , Mac can throw with touch and anticipation. But you can't put it all on Cam, have to maximize what your players can do and the OC can't keep being clueless about the best plays your players can execute. And it also doesn't mean pigeon-holing your QB into red zone runs only. The lack of play action with Cam in the red zone is criminal and idiocy.
