Pats trade Sony Michel to LAR

All the reports I've seen say he's been improving all TC in that area.
Reports I saw about TC is that he's been getting lit up by the TEs. I'm hoping we're not seeing a repeat of early Patrick Chung.

these guys get paid millions of dollars. They scouted the university of Georgia backfield and drafted the one who is far less talented

Where does this mythology come from? Just simple jealousy?

NFL scouts get paid in the mid 5 figures. Their supervisor, the guys who manages all of the input from the scouts, makes about what a guy running a small plumbing business makes.

The Rams gave the New England Patriots a potential high Day 3 pick for a reason. Michel will play, but he's not expected to be the featured back in Los Angeles.

"That's going to be a complementary backfield," Rams general manager Les Snead said to reporters Wednesday. "What he does bring is this element of make a cut, get north and south and get north and south with some force. The physics that he brings to the table – let's call it a flavor of genre that we felt like complemented our group."

Sony Michel trade: Rams GM reveals plan for former first-round pick, and what inspired L.A to acquire him

Drafting Chubb also allows Bill to draft somebody at a position of more immediate need other than Damien Harris the very next year, and that would've made the selection of Stevenson instead of a WR in the 4th round this year more palatable...

Does Bill pay him $30M here? Again no, more than likely... But he would've fetched more in trade or (the likelier scenario) in compensatory quality than Michel just has... And he would've played here all of this season too...

Typing out of your ass again, I see.

They didn’t draft Harris because it was an area of need. Caserio said as much in his press conference after day 2 that year. He said that Harris was too good to pass up at that point in the draft and fell into the category of “good footbal player”.

You also have no feckin’ clue why they drafted Stevenson or how they felt about the WRs who were available when they drafted him, so stop connecting dots that very likely shouldn’t be connected, in order to fit another one of your b*tch/whine sessions. I know that is like asking you to not breath.

I think that you are mixing up Bill and Tommy Boy. If every there was a “can do no wrong” group on this site it is the extreme Brady devotees. Those guys would do filthy things with Brady, if he were ever to break up with his current upper thigh rubber Guerrero. I can’t wait for their world to come crashing down week 4, when Bill and Mac lead the upset of Tampa. Heads are going to explode.
This post reads like a detainee who knows he’s guilty. I was wondering who would take the cheese on that one. You didn’t disappoint.

Unapologetic BB fan here. I guess you’ve found a situation “beyond the line”…

I just want him to win 65-70% of football games. He can keep his appendages to himself (and, perhaps Linda).
All Patriots fans do. I hope that’s the tier you fall into. The people who hero-worship a coach are a little sus.

Assuming he passes all these protocols etc..let’s just keep Cam as a backup QB/Goal line back. 9/10 you’re not stopping a 6’5 240lbs dude. He’s been the best goal line threat since 2011.

Cool. Productive, but soon to be third string back with a bad knee in the last year of his rookie deal for a 4 and a 6? I’ll take it.

Not a bad deal for the Rams either.

Aside from the pass break up last week, he still looks pretty underwhelming in coverage.

and if you view that Michel's 2021 contributions would be worth less than the difference between the 4th and the later 5th.

Your comment assigns no value to Michel's 2021 contrinutions.

Exactly, it all added up to Sonys exodus.

JJ returns KOs and is in the Kevin Faulk role.
White is white.
Harris leap frogged over Sony last season as the # 1 RB.
Stevenson is hopefully the bruiser that the Pats have been missing since Blount.
Bolden is the jack of all trades.

Sony was in the final season of his contract. The Pats recoup his salary, which as usual is high at the end of contracts for maneuvers just like this.
So, we HOPE that Stevenson is adequate backup if Harris is hurt.

I think that I would trade a 4th for someone that I was sure knew the system, was playing well and could be counted on.

Instead of being ready for 2 injuries, we have a HOPE that our RB will be OK with only one injury. IMO, we have a WEAK RB group if Harris is ever injured.

Bolden shouldn’t count as a RB except for emergency. Hell last time we needed him
we signed a broken down Steven Jackson for the playoffs.
Now he is 6 years older and has a combined 37 carries since.
Not much more of a Rb than slater is a wr.
Yup.

Belichick is well prepared for at injury to Harris NOW.

We would have Stevenson, Taylor and White. ????

Huh? They have Taylor and Stevenson, that’s a really good RB unit. I love the trade, Michel was gone after this season anyways.
There is ONE no a patriots message board or working for the patriots who would consider Taylor and Stevenson a "really good RB unit". Well, maybe their families also.

Any position is subject to injuries. Carry 4 WRs what happens when 2 are hurt. Carry 3 TEs what happens when 2 are hurt. Carry six OLmen, what happens when 2 are hurt. You can't keep an infinite number of bodies at every position.
I STRONGLY disagree.

We do INDEED try to prepare for 2 injuries in all the units where carry at least 4 players.

TE is a bit different, since we only carry three. Even there, we would make up for 2 injuries by occasionally using our FB or an OT as a TE. Obviously, we would run lots more 3 WR sets.
===================
OL
I think that we are prepared for two injuries, with Karras and Cajuste on the 53. We will carry 1-2 MORE players to make that situation even more secure.

WR
In case of two injuries, we would have the remaining 2 active plus Gunner. We would run more 2 TE sets. Also, White would sometimes line up as a WR on 3rd down.

RB
With only ONE injury, we will have Stevenson, Taylor and White. Don't even think of two injuries.

DEFENSIVE FRONT SIX
We will likely have 13-14 players and be able to deal with any two injuries.

SECONDARY
We will likely have 8-9 position players, enough to deal with two injuries. Also, Bethel can be the 7th or 8th DB in long yardage situations.
===============
WHICH OF THE ABOVE IS NOT LIKE THE OTHERS

Yup.

Belichick is well prepared for at injury to Harris NOW.

We would have Stevenson, Taylor and White. ????
Only Stevenson is a true RB who can(should) play on running down.

Yes, Stevenson must be good enough to start, and play the vast majority of reps. That is certainly HOPE and EXPECT.
=============================================
That being said, I would MUCH prefer having Michel as our #4 back after Harris, Stevenson and White. Basically, we have 3 quality backs and someone who would probably make the Practice Squad when 800 players become available of the same day.

HOWEVER, I can understand it if Belichick truly believes that Michel isn't worth carrying as a backup. In that if the case, I wouldn't be surprised to see us sign a RB after Game One, but probably not.

Now, that depends on who gets injured, doesn't it?

Harris/Stevenson
White/Taylor

You arrogantly claim to know so much and crap on anyone who disagrees with you. Then you circle back for a bow from your little cult following. Here’s a great example…you refer to people wanting to trade Michel as “dumber than dirt.”

I don'[t "crap on" anyone who disagrees with me. I crap on YOU. With adults I have discussions with people who disagree with me. And I stand by what I said. 1. For the Pats offense to succeed, regardless of the QB, it will need to have a strong group of running backs. 2. NONE of the RB's we had prior to the Sony trade, had great histories of staying healthy on a consistent basis. 3. Over the course of a long season and 25-30 carries a game it was likely one of the top 3 RB's would be dinged up and we'd need 3 in order to make sure we had 2 healthy ones ready for each game..

I also wrote this at a time when it looked like Stephenson would be on a limited snap count because historically it to rookie RB's to pick up their pass protection duties.

This should clarify exactly what my issue is with your supposed knowledge, how you constantly belittle people who don’t see eye to eye on roster decisions, and then claim to always know the answer. You’re just utterly full of it. Take a moment to reflect and consider that others WEREN’T dumb before taking your inevitable BS victory lap.
My knowledge isn't :supposed. It comes from 10 years of playing the game at 3 levels, 20+ years of coaching the game, and another 25 of just enjoying watching the game and this team. So I can mostly ignore it when a little pissant like you tries to rain on my parade.

This is why I hate what these threads have become. Everyone who argues for something that hasn’t yet happened - by reasoning - but doesn’t have six rings is a moron and hates the team, and thinks they’re smarter than Bill…until they're proven right, at which point you’re already onto knowing more than everyone about the next roster decision…with zero self-reflection.
There was a time when you and I have had some productive discussions, but somewhere along the line you got angry and spiteful. That's OK, I guess. I STILL believe that we need 3 rushing RB's in order to make sure we have 2 healthy for every game. Hopefully Taylor can fill that role. Because for more than a few games this year either he or Boldin are going to have to be that second back.

In the meantime you can come at me any time. I would never put you on "ignore". And I will respond when you write something interesting, whether I agree OR disagree. But most of the time when you post sad drivel like this, I won't bother. Its just that tonight I'm feeling a little ornery. I'll probably feel bad in the morning.

You wrote: “while we have some talent at the RB position, we are going to need ALL of it to make sure we have 3 healthy RB’s to start each game.”

Now, let’s review your know-it-all, hindsight, revised conclusion from today:
-
I believe the Pats need to have 2 healthy rushing RB's for each game in order for this offense to reach its potential.

(Hindsight below…your post from today implying that was your view when you called us dumb for advocating a Sony trade. Do you see how you’ve completely reversed your position?)

I know that everyone is an expert at everything now based on “research” that consists of looking at social media, watching “opinion makers” (labeled so they don’t have to deal with bothersome things like facts), or conspiracy websites.

I LIKE hearing the opinions of people with actual expertise. I call that knowledge instead of arrogance. Perhaps I am in the minority in listening to actual medical experts for medical issues (instead of Facebook), dentists for dental issues, and scientists for science. If an experienced surgeon gives surgical advice, that is knowledge and experience, not arrogance.

Ken is an actual ex football coach. I welcome hearing from someone with actual expertise.
