Gilmore is going to wisely play this to the end. He knows it's his last shot at a ton of money, if history is any indication.

He'll take the 90K+ in fines for that chance. Can't blame him. That said, the Pats have little reason to move on this. They'll probably flip him some extra cash for this year and then let him test the market. Just read a piece that says no one really wants to trade for a 31-yr-old CB who wants a big deal and was hurt last year.

I know the voluntary workouts are just that but for players who miss those and get hurt on NCIs I really have no sympathy.

Gilly definitely doesn't have much "built-in" leverage in terms of contract but his skill set is still top tier/elite and more importantly ... There's only 4-5 guys in the league on his level, that can carry players across the field. Just not many of those guys around. Having one guy to cover an opposing teams WR1 is very much a luxury.

I could see one of the NFCW teams take a shot at him. Those defenses could hit another level with him on it.

He's made $56.7m in cash or $14m a year w/ NE but he has outperformed his deal? How? Quite frankly, hes almost 31 and coming off a year in which he was injured.

If a player wants to hold out and make the effort to be paid market then that is their right to do so.

The team is better with him but I don't see the need to pay him far beyond what he is slated to make now.

I love reading these reports, but I'm not feeling this manufactured drama around Gilmore. The guy hasn't shown an ounce of diva and is coming off an injury. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and wait until at least August before any concern.

So did they overpay in 2017 when his play the first 8 or so games was so-so?

He earned every penny in 2018 and 2019.

His play in 2020 lowered his value as well as his injury and age.
