it's 100% relevant
How?
Matt Barkley was a 4th round pick.
Lance is assuredly a first round pick.
Them being comparable is not relevant to how many other QBs in their draft were rated higher.
Your argument says Matt Barkley or Sean Marion would be top 10 picks this year.
And in 2018 they would have been picked before Lamar Jackson who was the 5th QB picked. And Geno Smith is the same as Trevor Lawrence.

I’m in the best player available camp, loved our FA moves, and am optimistic we return to winning football. That said, I will ALWAYS be frustrated that the Pats felt winning a few useless games when it was clear after game 6 last year the team stunk was more valuable than a top 8 draft pick.

Pick 15 value will be on D in my opinion...zero chance at a QB.

And I doubt 2022 record will be worse.

Now, if a garbage team wants the 15 for some reason and is willing to trade a 2022 1st, and a late 2nd...do it.

This is what I'm hoping for. FAcy addressed the most glaring holes. There's plenty of good depth in rounds 2-4.

Getting an extra #1 in 2022 will give Pats the extra ammo they'll need to move up and avoid being in QB purgatory.

Trey Lance might be a late first rounder based solely on athletic potential. He is a major project that has started 11 games in Div 2. He's a serious risk pick.

And that's probably the way it should be this year too.
Three of the five are WAAYYYY overrated, and history shows that only 2 of the five will be any good.
Virtually every professional disagrees with you.

Taking a risk to find a franchise qb is what you have to do. It’s a critical piece and that’s the price. To deny that is like riding a bike 40 miles to work every day because those damn cars are really expensive.
You can’t make up the cost of a qb and make it what you wish it was.

Let’s say you are right and Lance is a late first. If he is going to go in the top 8 then that means the price of what you think is a late first is the 8th pick. If you aren’t willing to pay that how do you get a qb?

We aren’t winning with newton.
We arent trading for anyone. Not that someone worthwhile would ever be in the trade block.
We aren’t signing a FA not that there are normally any worthwhile that are free.

So how do we get the QB? The QBs in the draft are “overpriced” because you have to have a good one to contend and y it is pretty much the only way to get one.
What is the alternative? What good are the picks you refuse to trade doing you if your QB prevents you from winning?
Are Harry, Michel and Wynn going to lead us to a championship without a qb? Where would we be today if we traded those 3 too ok move up and get josh Allen?

You can't seriously think that Lance will be a better QB next year than Newton?

Down the road, maybe, I doubt it. Lance has one season of starts in Div 2, Cam has been in the NFL for ten years. If winning next year is your goal, draft a playmaker at 15 and roll with Cam or Hope that Jimmy is cut.

No if we draft Lance it’s hard to expect he will be ready this year so we would need to acquire and upgrade to play this year too.

If San Fran goes full ****** and takes Jones at 3, that means either Lance or Fields will fall. We’d likely have to jump up to 4 and pay a king’s ransom to do so (assuming Atlanta doesn’t take a QB, which they very well may). We doing it?

Riding the wave of Bill's preseason aggressiveness, I estimate that the Pats will continue this trend and trade up.

We should.
I don’t think Atlanta is taking a qb.

don’t we have 10 or so guys with a year left in their contract?

ir is a great way to red shirt
And a large consensus says 4 belong at least in the top half of the first round. It’s silly to compare a year where the 4th qb goes in the top 5 picks to a year he goes in the 4th round.
They’re only going high because teams are reaching. Rank em 1-99 and the qb’s aren’t in the top 10 players. Except Lawrence

Yeah that’s not true but it doesn’t matter. If QBs are taken higher than where they grade compared to all players in general that is the reason you have to select them higher not the season not to. If a QB graded 30th out of all players is going at 5, you aren’t getting good QBs by only picking them where they grade in relation to all players. None will be left. You need a qb. That’s what they cost.
Your argument makes you the guy riding a bicycle to work in a snowstorm because you think cars are overpricing.

Dumb analogy. I’m driving my Camry while you spent 3x more on a car not as good. Keep trying junior

You’re good with paying a similar price to what San Fran gave Miami? I’m fine with that if it’s for the next guy. I’m not sure if Bill would be.

Nah because based upon your approach every qb is overpriced so you’ll never get one.
But Ok let’s use your analogy you race your Camry at Indy because race cars are too expensive.
If you won’t pay the price required to draft one, where in the world are you expecting to get a franchise QBs from?

In your example it was fields and yeah. Lance is harder because he likely just won’t be ready this year.
