Deshaun Watson accused of sexual assault in lawsuit

But if you get 13 more posters to say the same, I suppose I'm guilty.
The thing, to me, that gives these 14 (24) women credibility, is they were all women he actively sought out. They’re not random women coming out of the woodwork. They didn’t initiate the encounters with him. He did and there are a lot of them with similar stories.

How sad that we live in a society where people who simply want some/any evidence are told they "side with Watson." Well you know what? Those of us who live in the United States should side with people accused of crimes until evidence comes out demonstrating their guilt. It is called being afforded the presumption of innocence. Being that this is a civil court of law, we do not need proof beyond a reasonable doubt, but it still falls on the plaintiffs to make their case. Regardless, there is a lot of strange things going on here:

1) Tony Buzbee seems to be a "sue first, verify facts later" type of guy. He once filed a suit against a company that didn't exist. He once filed a suit against a company that had absolutely nothing to do with the accident. He has gotten into more than 1 argument with other lawyers involving issues of poaching clientele. He also has been charged with DUI, but had those charges dropped under questionable circumstances.

2) The breakneck speed at which we went from 1 to 2 to 4 to 8 to 12 to 22 to 24 (and still counting) defies credulity. 24 women who all, by the way, went to the exact same lawyer, 14 cases filed, and it all happened within 1 single week of the original announcement. That is just breakneck speed for this type of thing.

3) BTW, while I fully understand a lot of women choose not to report being sexually assaulted, we also know that a lot of women do. And right now we are being asked to believe that 24 women all chose not to report being assaulted. Not a single one. IMHO, the accusations were more believable when the number was smaller. It feels to me like we've reached - and exceeded - a saturation point where Buzbee announcing more and more women (who may or may not even exist) makes the whole thing less believable.

4) Most importantly, please note that none of the above is meant to imply that I believe Watson is innocent. Frankly, I wouldn't bet 2 pennies on it. I am just a silly American who affords people the presumption of innocence prior to seeing evidence indicating otherwise. Crazy, huh? I don't demand proof but Lord-a-mercy, ya gotta give me something.

sorry metsfan, you have already already determined it is a smear campaign....

Mets? Psh I gotta see winning somehow. Yanks!

The back-n-forth about my stance will end here.

Sure, there is some concern that points to Watson being guilty as well. Just nothing concrete yet. And obviously plenty pointing towards this being BS.

I'm waiting for something to tip the scale in one direction or the other.

I know the only "evidence" released proved nothing except DW is extremely polite and considerate.

The lawyer released those messages somehow expecting to harm DW. If that's the best he has... how is this a story?

Watson is getting killed in the public based on nothing so far.
This is where I am too. Watson is getting railroaded in a trial by media before any meaningful evidence has been presented.

I'm not exonerating Watson IF he did what they say he did. but to be blunt about it we have no idea if anything any of these woman said is true or untrue. No reason to either believe or NOT believe. People are jumping onto one side or the other based on emotions, biases, and their own personal experiences. NONE of it is based in fact.

I will say this. Whether these specific allegations are true or untrue, this is EXACTLY how a smear campaign targeting a public figure will play out.

All I'm saying is that maybe let's show down. Wait to see the evidence before deciding one way or another. What we've seen so far is long on creative writing and short on facts and evidence. I need more if i'm gonna come down on a guy for the hideous crime of being accused of things.

I'm in the same place too. The more people that Watson allegedly sexually assaulted, the less probable it is that EXACTLY ZERO have gone to the police with it and filed any kind of criminal complaint. I could see quieting up 1 or 2 people, or even 5-6, but 24? In the era of #metoo when it was as easy as it will proably ever be to make these accusations and be believed? I'm having trouble estimating the odds, but it makes me pump the breaks a bit.

He may be a Texas A&M fan or Manziel fan, but not necessarily a Texans fan. Even if he is, taking these actions to punish their QB for asking for a trade is ludicrous. This guy sounds like a publicity whore, but he is also a very serious and successful attorney. And it’s not about him, it’s about the women filing the lawsuits.

He's not too bright because everyone knows that former Patriot Bucky Richardson was a better Aggie QB than Johnny Football.

No, you're on team watson
There is no such side. You mean team "wait until we see some kind of evidence". That is clearly something you don't believe in. You should go live in a third world country since you'd probably love their justice systems.

24 and counting
Dude must eat a lot of oysters

don’t be an idiot. i already quoted the jetefan as saying the attorney was smearing Watson. how can he say this without waiting for the evidence? he can't...unless he already picked a side. i pointed this out to him and he didn't want to argue anymore.

If you read some of the complaints, his prowess is.... well I gotta admit, somewhat impressive....

Not helping matters is the fact that a lot of these accusations read like dimestore porno novels.

Again, that doesn't mean the accusations are false, but it makes it a little harder for me to fully credit what they say without seeing any kind of corroborating evidence.

He is. Buzzoff, or whatever the hell his name is, has created a trial by media atmosphere that you've swallowed hook, line and sinker. Whether or not the accusations are true has nothing to do with the tactics being employed. And I know a railroad job when I see one.

This is standard sleezy third-rate lawyer stuff. Make no mistake he's going to the media for a reason rather than letting the case proceed on its own merits. Lot of lawyers use these tactics to try to force a quick settlement because they know their case won't survive trial. The more Buzz Lightyear doesn't want to let the facts speak for themselves the weaker I suspect the facts of being.

I agree with this. If the women coming forward are telling the truth, I feel bad that they are linked to this clown.

Sheesh.....

You people.
