Nah he hasn’t gone crazy, he just has cap space to use. Different situation; different process.
No, he's gone crazy. There’s many ways to spend money, overpaying is one he doesn't do regularly. If that's what it took to get JSmith, so be it.

Judon is the best available FA edge for the pats defense. What a grab!

Elite run defender. Physical pass rusher. Onwenu’s worst game of the season was vs. him.

The defense is back.

Hasn't actually happened yet, but it sure sounds like the Patriots are trying to make it happen.

Pro Bowl caliber pass rusher for hopefully not pro-bowl caliber money

Golladay still out there?
A trade for Njoku would give us a Gronk and Hernandez like combo.
Any feeling that Asiasi can develop into that #2 TE for us and Keene an Hback type?

That’s not an overpay. It’s the market.

Don't see any reason yet to believe otherwise. They were rookies put into a ****ty situation with COVID who then also missed time with injuries. There is no way to say anything conclusive one way or the other.

plus we haven't seen any cap figures yet, that's all that matters to fans in terms of overpay

i don't care how much of Bob's money he spends, it's all about the cap hit

BB’s opening purse strings. Kinda surprised. Figured a signing. But big ticket ?

The market is the reason overpays happen. Whether Jonnu was an overpay is impossible to say at this moment. Paying for past production is what dumb GMs do, but it's definitely harder to feel confident when the past production isn't that good.

I think it would be a lie to not say that it's an overpay. He's the 3rd highest paid TE with the most guaranteed money. That is an overpay.

But that isn't to say that the deal wont be fine by the end. Gilmore's deal was also considered an overpay at first.
