Player Signing Cam newton resigned 1 year deal

I posted this in this thread yesterday and surprised nobody got triggered. I agree with Rodney as it sends a bad message to the team.

Why would anyone get triggered by reading facts.

Cam sucks? Fact.
Horrible re-signing? Fact.
BB sucks donkeyballs as GM? Fact.
Letting Brady go was the worst decision any franchise has made this century? Fact.

Thought we determined this but if you missed this here's the summary.

BB decided that he wanted to win a Championship without Brady to cement his legacy, so he kicked Brady to the curb even when Brady was willing to sign a very cheap 2 yr $50m contract for a QB with MVP skills. Instead it's Brady who's won one without BB and cemented his. Now BB is doubly under pressure and looks a fool, and has gone scatter-brained and making stupid decisions.
Someone is lying as Kraft said publicly he would've made it work (basically overrule Bill) if Brady wanted to return despite Team Bill's take that there wasn't enough cap room to sign him. On the other hand, the other rumor was Brady wanted to sign, and would only sign if Bill made it clear he wanted Brady back.

Who's telling the truth? I really don't think Brady wanted to return as you saw the disgust on his face in 2019 and lost faith in Bill's ability to judge talent. From drafting Harry, taking Slo Williams in the 2nd round, signing AB and then trading D Thomas, then cutting AB, cutting Gordon, blowing a 2nd on Sanu and then having him take a punt return only to shred his ankle. It was a bad year for Bill. Brady made the right choice leaving as Bill's last draft was taking the usual JAGS - No game changers.

I thought for sure Team Bill representatives would've trashed Rodney.

7-9 missing Hightower, Chung, Cannon and Cam having covid fog for a month, plus we have top3 in free cap space coming up, I think there's decent hope we could hit 10 wins....
Covid Fog? Is that what they call it when they're asymptomatic? Seems like an odd pairing.

Cam Newton says "Run it back" after signing with the Pats.

Guess we go 7-9 again?

I suppose that we might go 7-9 again if the team doesn't improve through the opt-outs coming back, free agency and the draft.

Ehh..... Other teams will improve too. Improvement is no guarantee of a better record. Playing the NFC South instead of the NFC West should give the Patriots some better chances to win, though.

Did you see Jason Tatum messed up for a month after covid ??
Cam went 2-3 after the illness, not 0-5, and that was part of a 4-4 post-illness stretch. Furthermore, he played 12 games after the illness, not just 3 or 4, and it was the 1-3 record down the stretch that doomed the team. Care to try finding something other than the coronavirus to pin his struggles on?

How much are you expecting from the opt outs? Having Hightower back should certainly help. Bolden, LaCosse, Vitale, and Toran don't move the needle (or even necessarily make the team). Cannon many people expect to be cut if he doesn't retire. Not sure how much Chung has left in him at age 34 and Phillips performed fine anyway.

Cam newton has a $5million base salary and people acting like they just gave him $30million.

If bill gets one of the top 5 QBs in the draft and has a solid free agency I doubt anyone is going to care if cam newton is back for 1 year. Now if we don't draft any QB or make other moves I will get nervous

Heard Bedard on the radio today and he said this is just insurance. These guys like minshew, Jimmy G, trubisky may never become available. And Patriots didn't want to be stuck holding the bag trying to convince receivers that stidham will be throwing to them.

It's also worth noting about Tatum that he wasn't asymptomatic. It was initially reported when he tested positive that he was asymptomatic, but he was really pre-symptomatic (he hadn't developed the symptoms just yet). He ended up developing physical symptoms including fever, fatigue, body aches, and trouble breathing.

Cam, on the other hand, has maintained he was asymptomatic the whole time. He did say that covid caused him issues because he was unable to get to know the other players and their families as well as he would have liked.

In an interview on “The Greg Hill Show” on WEEI in Boston on Monday, Newton admitted COVID-19 didn’t allow him to be himself and get to know his teammates better. “I think my only regret about COVID is this: I am a very social person, ” he said. “I am a social peer, I am a social teammate, and I am a social human being. It’s one thing to know a person on a football side, (but) COVID affected our team in a way to make a lot of us feel like associates or co-workers rather than really feeling like a team at times.

“And hear me out when I say, ‘at times.’ Because for me, if this was not the case, obviously you can have guys over, you can really find out the personal side. ‘Hey man, you got a girl? Are you married? How many kids do you have? You don’t necessarily know that or find that out until going through certain situations. And we didn’t have preseason.

For cam newton and the Patriots sake I hope last year was due to the garbage receivers, no offseason and covid. Because going from a guy who threw 23 tds in 2018 to 8 is just sad. But he also had over 100 less pass attempts and he played 2 extra games in 2020.

And in my mind there's no way Bill brings him back if he thinks last season was all due to cam newton. To be fair we probably don't even win 7 games with Stidham.

But having Cam throwing to them will be just what it takes to convince quality free agent receivers to sign with the Pats.
