Player Signing Cam newton resigned 1 year deal

STFU with your BS...I'm not in denial about a dyam thing. I posted how I feel about things using my SIXTY YEARS as a rabid Patriots fan. YOU are a nutjob fixated on hating this particular player. Whatever happens, it's obvious YOU will be the last one to know.

A lot of us didn't buy the washed up theory. A lot of us saw the problems with the OL, and the increasing problems with the WRs, and knew that the problems lay elsewhere. And, when you look back to analyze last season, you can see the week of the final straw having broken the camel's back. It's week 7, against the Jets. That's the Game after Gordon's Patriot career effectively ended, and it's the first game without having either Develin or Johnson to help with the pass blocking.

But Cam had a better OL in front of him, and he had Johnson for the full season. We can argue the merits of the WR group in the second half of the 2019 season versus the entirety of the 2020 season, but that'll still leave the huge advantage for Cam when it comes to protection.

So the comp doesn't really work.
I think you can compare the WR group as they are largely the same. Brady had better TE's (marginally i know). Rex And white for more of the season but a worse line and no FB. I could be wrong but i think the line was inconsistent last year depending on injuries and was better at run blocking than pass protection. Cam i think can only be better. Coming into a new scheme in july with no preseason and a limited group of WR would be a challenge for anyone. He is limited and his mechanics aren't great but as a cheap fall back with a view to drafting a decent prospect in the draft i'm ok with it. Not over the moon but it could be worse.

« Run » it back.

I mean, he did use the correct word. Imagine a scenario where Najee falls into the second round and NE grants him and somehow keeps Thuney.

With Harris, Najee, the OL & Cam, would opposing teams even use CBs against NE ?

really a stupid waste of time to show a rare pass by a P.O.S. who should retire - even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then - Cam will once again be at the bottom of QB standings in 2021/22 - just praying its not on this team or he keeps the bench occupied and lets a real QB take over - BB got the scrap heap of NFL Quarterbacks right now
This is a weird post. I get not like watching him play but calling him a POS is way over the top.

I guess, look at the alternative. Patriots go into next week with no QB trying to convince hunter henry or golladay they are going to catch passes from stidham?

Signing cam newton doesn't stop the Patriots from pursuing other options. But it gives them a fallback option assuming everything else falls through.

There is still free agency, the draft, and the possibility that someone like Jimmy G ends up being available in a month or two.

It's also possible that Bill doesn't think cam is as done as we do. And maybe he puts alot of his struggles on the receivers.

But, more than anything I think it's that it's 3.5million guaranteed. There's minimal risk to the Patriots

Great deal when you consider everyone wanting to sign cam to a long term $100 million dollar deal after the first few games of the season last year.
the first games don't count in any way, and were not at all indicative of anything :)

junk? Our receivers are better than a couple of teams in the NFL.
Collectively - the receiving room is inferior to most NFL Teams. Definitely not constructed to consistently win in Modern day NFL. Could the group make a substantial jump this season? Sure! I expect Meyers to build on a very strong season.. is Byrd worth resigning? Is Harry going to be here? Will Edelman regain form? Will Isiah Zubber do more than run reverses?

We won't get started on the TE room. I have a soft spot for Asiasi..I think he will blossom. Generally speaking TEs don't flourish until year 2-3.

Agree. Someone’s life isn’t going well.
It's deeper than football but Cam makes it easy to mask because of his personality. Imagine caring what a the next man is wearing ..smh.

We don't have a WR that should be a #1 WR. #2 WR or #1 TE on any team that wishes to be competitive.

Yes, if Byrd is signed, we would have good competition for the #3, #4 and #5 WR positions.

I think there's a possibility that Meyers could be a decent #2 move the chains type receiver

If we signed a top receiver and say Sanders, how often would Myers be on the field, except as a slot receiver?

To be clear, Myers has a place on this team. He is likely the only lock we have to make the 53.

Thats my whole point. Junk is a strong word but defenses did not have to worry about our receiving options because there isn't talent there that is going to consistently beat 1 on 1 coverage. So defenses concentrated on taking away the only thing that could kill them..a Cam lead rushing attack.

Let's see how they stock the cupboard next week. I promise if we get a WR 1 and WR2 and a steady presence at TE the offense will be successful.

I agree that if we sign a #1 WR, a #2 WR, and a #1 TE (and an OG or C), we will have an OK offense. Is 4 top signings too much to ask?

He probably would drop to #3. Honestly, I don't see how others can argue our receivers were fine last year. Most pundits called it the worst skill position group in the NFL.

We saw the same stuff last year that we did in the 2nd half of 2019 when Brady struggled. Now we can blame that all on the OL. But I clearly remembered guys not getting open and brady throwing to receivers with guys draped all over them.
