DRAFT BGC 2021 Pre-Draft/Patriot-Type Prospect(s) thread

Cannon would save 7M if cut. That being said, the Pats have questions behind Wynn and Herron. I think that Onwenu is destined for the LG position. The Pats have typically carried 4 OTs with 1-2 more on the PS. So I definitely see the potential of taking an OT in the 1st to develop and be ready to take over in 2021. They've done this repeatedly (Light, Solder, Wynn).

BTW, you sold me on Brady Mills. I think he'd be a steal in the 2nd round (or later).

Herron isn't a starting caliber OT per your own post. Makes no sense to move Onwenu to LG so that Herron can play RT. If Cannon is gone then Onwenu should play RT. Herron was not good as a starter.

.

+ Smarts - very steady/heady player at times. At times a little ahead of himself but generally looks like he has the right idea.

+ love his hand/arm usage. When he touches you it usually leads to good things. He'll impede reroute or slow down a WR just enough. Really can feel out a route after contact.

+ inside and outside ability although hes on the smaller side. Plays fast with loose hips.

Love his competitiveness and mentality. Really impressed on the los during the Senior Bowl.

Grimes is another H/W/S guy (Height, Weight, Speed) Still working himself back into 100% form after a knee injury. Never quite caught in fire bc of that and Florida's other weapons but he's got some nice potential.

Not a bad route runner but needs tighten up. Moves surprisingly well for a big man but again could work on movements. Become a little more efficient with his steps and stem. Rounds out a few in breaking routes but what 6'4 guy doesn't at times.

Nice catch radius and strong hands. Good catch radius and body control. Tough after the catch wants to make a play. Knows how to create separation off speed & technique. Stays square, patient and shows a little burst off his set up off the line or his stem.

Could be a nice have after the 2nd-3rd round. There's something there but might need a little fixing up and coaching (attention) /pet project for a WR coach.

Basham has been on there for months

Love his decisiveness and burst when his read is right. He's a solid inside defender in terms of knifing the B/C gaps vs the run/zone read. + chase & pursuit from backside. Has trouble with some contain on some stretch stuff but he's good enough there, could improve but sets a very strict edge overall. + vs zone read/rpo.
Not a real bendy guy but can take the corner at times. That really comes off his inside rush. Stab/Swim, good, active, hands. Quick. Has power and puts all 275+ into it. Very nice first step. Adapt at splitting doubles and getting skinny.

High motor, high effort guy that wants to knock the hell out of you.

Needs refinement and more variety in his pass rush but that's coachable and Bill wants you to go from A to B when rushing the passer. Not mess around. Athletic tackles will give him fits in the run game early on imo. Especially ones that running zone/gap. It's just part of his process in terms of development.

Junior Faulk, DB, Delta State could be our next UDFA DB success story...
Good one! He's definitely a sleeper. Decent size. Tough kid that can hit, tackle but has some patience and smarts. Want to see him run. Possible inside/outside guy vs bigger WR/smaller TE? Good, efficient hand usage at times at the los.

Herron was a low round rookie draft choice. So... let the guy develop a little bit and then see where he's at. I'm sure the coaches have a better sense of how this might be handled.

If Penei Sewell drops into our lap, Isaiah Wynn will play guard anyway. Hah!

@ Mac - from Kiper via Reiss fwiw:

But he has that competitiveness, and he's so smart -- he picked that offense up [at the Senior Bowl] like it was nothing. Other quarterbacks were struggling with the verbiage and -- 'boom!' -- he was in and out of the huddle quicker than anybody I've ever seen.

I mean, obviously level of competition needs to be taken into account, but in the amount of tape I watched (which wasn't particularly extensive to be honest) he looked like a man amongst boys. Definitely worth a flier as a UDFA

I like Davis Mills a lot. You got Brady Davis on the mind lol?

And depending on what happens in FA I definitely want to trade into next year's 1st round. About to post in @long distance thread on a possible situation where I think it works.

I hope you feel better. I'm 6'4 and work construction so I'm constantly doing maintenance on main. I go a chiropractor and get massaged once or twice a month. Sometimes I'll skip a month or two. Always stretching. Ice. Stretch more. Some core exercises. That's after you get it fixed. Find a routine and stick with it.
Yeah.. I did.. have Davis on the mind.. Still surprising that he's got a UDFA ranking. Is this where you have him?

But Mills is the one you sold me on..

Thanks for the encouragement.. I was doing stretches and core stuff previously since I started playing Rollerhockey again (goalie). Had also been going to the Chiropractor semi-irregularly. Hadn't done massages in awhile.

Wonder if they'll give him a higher grade due to the Michigan players already on the team.. If he slipped to day 3, I'd be happy to see him in a Pats uni..

Considering that Herron was a ROOKIE, he was good. And he was better than Eleumenor was at LT. Herron was SOLID at RT as well. And you are mistaking my saying he's a SWING TACKLE as saying that he's not a starting caliber OT.

BTW, I never said to move Onwenu to LG to let Herron play RT. I said that I believed that Onwenu is destined for LG. I have Onwenu going to LG to replace Thuney. Either because Thuney left or they moved Thuney to Center.

If you're going to comment, the least you could do is actually reference what was ACTUALLY said. Not make garbage up because you can't comprehend what people are talking about.

@BaconGrundleCandy - in regards to BRADY DAVIS, @long distance posted the Brian Baldinger video about the kid. The NFLDraftScout info has him as the 24th ranked QB. Basically a guy who is not even worthy of a UDFA slot.

Unless I misinterpreted what you said, you saw lots of very good things from the kid. What grade do you have on him (you didn't mention it earlier)? Is the biggest knock on him the competition he faced? Or is there something I'm not seeing that has him as undraftable / unsignable?

If Sewell falls to us would be glad to use the pick on him. 1st round pick on the Front7 Defense or OLine, those are the only positions I trust us to draft with a high pick.
