Of course he would weaken his position to start. His contract is radioactive. The idea that there was ever a serious trade potential there for him is the province of idiot Raider homers. He has no reason to agree to a new contract that would facilitate a trade because if the Raiders keep him there's always the chance Carr gets his ACL destroyed week 1 and he gets to start again.
Unless he's willing to weaken his position in order to get a chance to start he's going to be cut.
I read the details of his deal... some of those bonuses are quixotic... and based on 2020 playing time and lack of wins, look slike he hit only 1 or 2 escalators, $20 million is significantly over stating the value of the deal...That’s if he doesn’t play. If he plays significant snaps, his contract is for $20 million.
Would not hate signing him but his price will be too high for Bill. Not gonna happen.
To be more specific - he hits the cap for ~ $10m this near no matter what, no more no less. If he plays over 60% of the snaps, starts 12 games, and wins 11 games or less, he gets ~$8/9m more which hits the cap in 2022 because it is NLTBE. 12+ wins gets him to around a $10m hit next year. That’s if he doesn’t play. If he plays significant snaps, his contract is for $20 million.
Do you see the Patriots as the only team that will try to sign him? If no, would you get into a bidding war to get him?I think we'll sign him and draft one of the top 5 Qbs

God forbid we pay someone at the most important position on the team.We might not like this contract.
Eagles are riding with hurts this year. No point getting mariota and getting into a controversy.Eagles?
Niners in a surprise twist?
Carolina?
Chicago?
There could be other suiters out there.
I love the idea of signing Marcus then drafting Lance or Wilson in the first or Kellen Mond in the 4th
He has made plenty of money. Most people do not have the same priorities as you and are fine working to earn their money rather than sitting around hoping for a gift.Good point man, makes total sense. He's an injury away from the easiest 18m incentives in the NFL but happy to give that up for a shot to compete for a starting job for like $5m a year because as you are well aware everyone in the NFL has the same priorities as you.
Mariota was good 5 years ago just like Cam, its progression.
Mariota is going to have to restructure to go anywhere and it'll be on a "prove it" contract. Perfect for the Pats, sign and draft some middling QB like Ian Book.

Not interested. He might very well come here, but he's a waste of time. I'd rather just draft a QB and build around him and not waste 5 mins on anyone who will cost anymore. We aren't winning a SB next year anyways.
