Marcus Mariota

Agree, but that's where we are. Apparently, someone came up with the brilliant plan of not having a plan.

Waiting killed us in 2020 and doing the same in 2021 will have the same results. I think it's a terrible idea to wait for QB's to be released. If BB wants someone....he needs to go out and get him before someone else does...or else were in the Cam boat again.

Their are a lot of younger players then FitzBridge

I was thinking that Fitz has played for every AFCE team but the Patriots and he did go to Havahd. Might as well make it a quadfecta. Lmao

Trubisky, Fitz, Brissett...then draft Mac Jones as the QB of the Future...Stid vs Dolegala for #3...
You can’t win with any of those 3.
But any of those, including mariota still means you draft one. (I think trading up in round 2 gets you jones)
Mariota gives you a much better chance to win that those 3 probably at a cheaper price.

What’s your plan?
1. Use most of our resources to stack the team's defense with vets thru FA and draft picks to develop a top 5 defense.
2. Select a few good offensive weapons WR/TE in the draft.
3A. Go grab Mac Jones (if he's the worthwhile guy, idk). If he's not, then grab a 5th round QB for depth.
3B. Get a vet QB "familiar with Patriots system." If it's Jimmy (if available) ride with him. If it's Brissett, use him as stop gap till next year's draft a/o free agency yields a better option. Stick with this choice until you find the "guy."
4. If possible keep a surplus cap space in the event something develops during the season.

The only reason to play is the outcome.

I am talking about evaluation of performance. Of course winning is the goal but winning is not a proxy for "we played well" in a sport that is dominated by randomness, luck and uncertainty.

As almost everywhere in life outcome is not a proxy for how well someone was was doing something.

What's the obsession with those 3 QBs here? I don't get it. Especially Brissett.

Mariota probably is better than any of them and probably will cost less.

Cant agree with you there. The outcome is truth, trying to explain why the outcome should be different is folly.

Trade for Mariota if it is cheap.
Forget Cam, Brissett, JimmyG, Fitzy, Darnold, etc...
Then draft a QB (Mac Jone, Kyle Trask, Trey Lance)...

What makes you think Mariota would be any good at understanding the Patriots offense? Coaches have recognized that maybe not every QB can run this offense. He failed running the Titans one which I don't believe is similar. He's a backup at Vegas, another dissimilar offense. Plus his contract will cost $21M. No thanks.

We could also see what Mariota does well and develop an offensive game plan around that.

We always talk about how great Bill is at taking guys and identifying their strength and weaknesses and putting them in the best situation.

But then we want everyone to run the brady offense (and they tried with cam for some reason). There's only one brady.

Do you really think the Patriots are going to change their offense around a guy like Mariota? You do that maybe for a franchise QB. Mariota isn't the guy.

They changed it for newton.

My take on Mariota is the things that he needs better coaching on, are the things that the patriots scheme puts a lot of focus on. Coaching up those areas could really elevate his game. Those areas are: presnap reads, taking what the defense is giving and not passing up an open receiver hoping to find a more open or deeper one. This really fits together with better presnap reads, commitment to progressions and the way the progressions are built and called.
Mariota plus a first round qb sounds like a good plan to me.

Firstly, Mariota would Not come at a cheaper price than any of Trubisky. Brissett or Fitz, all of whom are UFAs whereas Mariota is not and would therefore not only require compensation be given to his team but also very likely carry the highest 2021 cap charge when the dust settles...

Secondly, I feel that if Bill could by some miracle improve the WR position through both free agency & the draft; improve the TE position through free agency; and settle the Center & LG questions before the draft...then we could indeed be offensively competitive enough to win with Brissett & Fitz, and perhaps even more than that with a harnessed & still-young Trubisky...

I think the Pats can land him with a vet minimum and an associate professorship at his alma mater.

Mariota has thrown for more than 13 touchdowns once in his career and it was 2016.

I think mariota could be cut. At least that's the latest I've read. Apparently the raiders have no suiters right now and are going to have to cut salary. A $10million backup is likely first to go.

Of course with 60 million we are going to improve the weakest positions but why not do that with the better qb instead of a guy you have no chance of winning with?
