Speculation: BB could leave after 2021

we really are a spoiled fanbase. we went 7-9 with a QB who couldn't throw and record high opt-outs. With a semi-competent QB and no opt outs we might win 10 games last year.

the almighty Texans with top 5 QB Desuan Watson won 4 games. the Falcons with Julio Jones and Matt Ryan won 4 games.

now if Bill strikes out this offseason/draft and we are worse next year or still a mid-ling team I might start to panic. But i am going to reserve judgement until we see what Bill does with this $60million and high draft picks. Honestly all I want is improvement.
This. This and This some more.

I stated before in another post but again I'm treating this year the same way I did after the 2000 season going into the 2001 campaign.

I remember saying I would have been happy with 8-8 or 9-7.

Who would have imagined that Cam was so awful.

Cam lit the Pat's up in both Carolina vs NE games. Cam was a beast passing and rushing in the Panthers 15 - 1 season.

I still believe that BB can fix this thing good enough to make the playoffs this season
Agree about Cam.
Saw Cam torch us at Gillette. Mainly because our new all star CB was new to the system and got called for holding on multiple 3rd down stops.
Wasn't a fan of signing Cam, but warmed to him once here. Never expected the throws into the dirt passing. Beyond awful but better than Kapp.
I have no expectation of playoffs 2021 season.

100% agreement. I really think they will be vastly improved IF the QB situation is addressed. If they end up with another #32 ranked QB, it's going to be more of the same. I truly think a middle of the road QB is going to get it done here, assuming that he takes to coaching. If they end up with some diva who wants a say, or one who thinks he's smarter/more athletic than the game plan, then it's going to be more difficult.

Are you saying you'd be happy with 8-8 or 9-7 this season after a 7-9 season? I don't see that as much of an improvement.

Yep. Certainly a competent, top 15 QB will make them a helluva lot more competitive offensively.

A couple of impact players on offense (WR, TE) and defense (Front 7 please!) and they are back in business competing for a playoff spot.

No.

Thanks to Bobby Grier and Meddlesome Bob, Bill needed to blow up the house. Keep in mind they were 5-11 back then so 9-7 would have been a 4 game improvement which is excellent. Obviously they exceeded everyones expectations in 2001. What a gift.

For 2021, going in I think their secondary, RB, OL is fine. They have a handful of young players with excellent potential. They have/will have over $60m in cap space. They will have 6 picks in the top 150.

The decisions Bill made in 2020 set up the 2021 offseason. He wanted it. He got it.

I'm not expecting them to be SB contenders but I do think expecting them to make the playoffs is reasonable

If they do not make the playoffs in 2021 i'm resigning as CEO from "Team Bill"

We can run the ball/protect well, and we have a good pass defense.

Everywhere else: the cupboard is bare.

Yep.

I believe Bill is an elite talent-evaluator, GM and coach.

He needs to execute at that level in 2021.

If he doesn't.......

A change at the top needs to be strongly considered.

Yes.

I don’t want to watch Bill become Tom Landry. Where the era clearly fizzles away, and we endure 4-5 years of mediocrity because Bill is perceived as “unfireable.”

I don’t want that memory of BB’s tenure. If it looks like things aren’t building in the right direction after this year, do what has to be done.

I agree with all of this, which means they need talent at WR, TE, QB, DL, and LB. That's a lot of talent to get in 1 year, with QB being the more difficult one.

Last year these are the WR free agents we signed: Damiere Byrd & Marqise Lee. That's not going to cut it.

I guessed an 8-8 record this past season. I'll go to a 9-7 this season w/o knowing who the QB will be. I'm not hopeful.

Bill will be around long enough for him to pass Shula for most wins, which will probably be another 3 years or so...hopefully enough for us to get another championship as well.:thumbsup:

Didn't even think of this. No way he retires before he passes shula

He's going to need more than 3 years to catch Shula, unless we think he's going 16-0 every season.

He may not catch George Halas in 3 years.

Edit: I'm talking about regular season wins.

Jimmy Stewart on 985 said this. I hope to God it's not Patricia as HC. Let's all hope he is wrong!

This twitter account has been suspended. BB isn’t leaving.

Ok, just checked: He's 38 wins behind Halas and 48 wins behind Shula. It will take him probably 4 to 5 years to pass both and become number 1 all time. He'll be here for at least that long and if I had to guess, maybe an extra year or two.
I would think he wants to be around to be able to enjoy being inducted into the hof which at that time he'll be around 80.

Are you saying a middle of the road QB will win us the division or a chance at the playoffs? I think the bills are still favorites to take the division and miami should be much improved.

...and I don't think Bill wants that either. No doubt he loves coaching and the lifestyle it brings but I think he'd give it up if he:

a) didn't have the energy/passion/drive anymore
b) wasn't being successful and felt he kept his dignity before he was forced to clean out his desk
c) had health problems
d) change in leadership. My understanding is Bill has a great (if not better) relationship with Jonathan than Bob. However if Jonathan starts to become a pain in Bill's side, he'll slink out.

Brady was livid over the Butler benching.

Tom asked "why are we doing this?"
When was this?
If Brady wins # 8, Kraft will have the Foxboro PD show up at Gillete and give BB 10 minutes to pack up his stuff and say his goodbyes before he is escorted out of the building.
That was pretty funny, but I don't blame you if you were semi serious.
If Patricia becomes the coach, I may have to take a break until he’s gone.

Which thankfully would likely be in 1-2 seasons.
Don't worry, it won't happen.
