Speculation: BB could leave after 2021

IMO I think their is a disconnect there that wasn't in previous years
I agree. I think it's something that has has grown and festered over the years. People like Manning, telling Brady he should have a say. People like Gronk telling Brady he doesn't need to listen to Bill and his Johnny Foxboro chit. His own growth from everyman to this TB12 Captain America persona. I think it all came to a head with the Butler benching.

I threw for over 500 effin' yards and you left Malcom on on the bench?

It seeming like the rumors are fact that Brady wanted to quit after the Eagles Super Bowl and that Kraft, BB and Brady had plenty of heated arguments.

Brady always had a clear path to Kraft and right over BBs head. I can't imagine BB liking that much.
The fact that he had that channel to Kraft and stature within the org and was STILL not signed is interesting.

It might not be Bill's choice to call it quits
He won’t be fired but I can see a Coughlin Giants style exit where he steps down.

No matter what happens I think it’s a good bet the Patriots have a new HC 5 years from now. This is becoming a young coaches league with so many young players. Someone like Gruden 20 years ago would fit right in.

Gotta be honest - 100% of why I supported keeping Belichick over Brady (assuming it was an either/or thing) was the expectation that Belichick would be in the league at least a few years past Brady's retirement.

If Belichick retires within 1 year of Brady (before or after) that entire premise falls apart for me and I'm going to be supremely annoyed because I like Brady a hell of a lot more than I like Belichick.
My admiration for each has waned. Brady's off the field growth from one of us to this worldwide TB12 thing, and Bill's inability to step out of the box and handle Brady differently than everyone else has grated on me this year. Of course, the Pats winning and making a deep run will change my opinion a touch in regards to Bill. Brady isn't going to come back to earth, and I have to leave my admiration to strictly on the field stuff. He does excel at that, however.

He will never get fired, but I can see him staying on a year or two too long. I'd love to see them make one more run and have him go out on top.

Exactly. If Bob or Jonathan see a need for a change (maybe they already have?) They'll script it out so Bill exits with grace and dignity.

The problem with these great coaches is they think they can go on forever. Landry, Shula even Noll didn't know when it was time to move on and they needed a gentle push or a kick in the ass ( see Landry which was an embarrassment)

This Brady relationship deterioration is 100% part of Bill's legacy. He handled it like he was any other player, unlike the handling of LT where there were two sets of rules, LT rules and everyone else's. I am a big believer that Bill is the greatest coach in the history of the game, but, IMO, he really fouled this up.
Brady was livid over the Butler benching.

Tom asked "why are we doing this?"

Kraft had a choice.

BB and no Brady or Brady and no BB. I do not believe that BB would have stayed if Kraft vetoed him. BB, Cam, a tough defense and a great running game looked like a good plan on paper.

Which tells me it’s really unlikely it was as much of a “football decision” as Bill said it was.

If Brady wins # 8, Kraft will have the Foxboro PD show up at Gillete and give BB 10 minutes to pack up his stuff and say his goodbyes before he is escorted out of the building.

Exactly. Palace intrigue indeed.

It was reported Bill was open to Tom returning. As we all know it would have been for short money and not with the say Tom wanted. It was untenable.

I think Bill laid out the different scenarios (cap space, talent drain, etc) for Kraft which also included his potential resignation.

Whether Bob was disengeuous when he asked Tom if there was anything he could do so he'd stay I don't know. Could have been a PR ploy or one last effort to see if there was something he thought Bill might be ok with.

Clearly there wasn't. Bob chose Bill over Tom...as he should.

Who would have imagined that Cam was so awful.

Cam lit the Pat's up in both Carolina vs NE games. Cam was a beast passing and rushing in the Panthers 15 - 1 season.

I still believe that BB can fix this thing good enough to make the playoffs this season

He needs to hit home runs on a lot of things

All I know is I called bb and told him I was don yee. Asked him if this was true and he said that some day we would talk about all this. ???

How so? I can see a scenario where they've put up with the player's chit, freelancing, not taking coaching, missing meetings, charters, curfews or the reported insubordination, any of this or a combination of all of it and Bill finally saying enough is enough. Let's not delve into a long thread hijack on this, but I do think it's relevant from the aspect of how it affected the locker room and Brady after the fact. I also think there's a big umbrella that Bill would call a "football decision" that you and I would call BS on.

Looking at the 2021 schedule they can definitely make it to the SB this season. 2022 schedule looks a little tougher so who knows.

The only possible losses I see are bills, rams and maybe one of either dolphin/falcon. Easy 13- 3 or higher season.

One mediocre season without TB12 after 20 years of joy, success and happiness and pundits begin their speculation about BB's departure. Just great.

Same, except I figured they'd split with Saints. 13-3 or 12-4 at worse. GB has a brutal schedule.

we really are a spoiled fanbase. we went 7-9 with a QB who couldn't throw and record high opt-outs. With a semi-competent QB and no opt outs we might win 10 games last year.

the almighty Texans with top 5 QB Desuan Watson won 4 games. the Falcons with Julio Jones and Matt Ryan won 4 games.

now if Bill strikes out this offseason/draft and we are worse next year or still a mid-ling team I might start to panic. But i am going to reserve judgement until we see what Bill does with this $60million and high draft picks. Honestly all I want is improvement.

And Butlers benching was a result of nepotism. Everyone on the team sees what's been going on with Bill favoring his kids. There's been a drain of coaching talent since the 2017 SB fiasco:

Matt Patricia
Joe Judge
Brett Bielema
Brian Flores
Josh Boyer
Brendan Daly
Chad O’Shea
Jerry Schuplinski
Scarnechia (R)

There's been a bunch of players that also left after that 2017 SB fiasco. No coincidence many went to play for the same coaches that left because they had enough of BB's BS.

WR Danny Amendola
CB Johnson Bademosi
CB Malcolm Butler
OT Cameron Fleming
DL Ricky Jean Francois
RB Dion Lewis
OT Nate Solder
WR Chris Hogan
TE Rob Gronkowski (R)
OT LaAdrian Waddle
DT Malcom Brown
CB Eric Rowe
WR Cordarrelle Patterson
DE Trey Flowers
OT Trent Brown
WR Phillip Dorsett
K Stephen Gostkowski
DB Nate Ebner
LB Elandon Roberts
OL Ted Karras
DB Duron Harmon
DT Danny Shelton
QB Tom Brady
LB Jamie Collins
LB Kyle Van Noy

If TB12 gets an extension after 2017 and we keep Danny (clutch) and Gronk (Goat), I think Pats go deep into 2019 playoffs and remain contenders to this day. A lot of mistakes have been made without a good Plan B (or C for that matter).

Now we need a miracle w/o a QB or offensive talent! There's just too many holes on the team. I wouldn't be surprised if High doesn't return.
