Devin McCourty: "I wouldn't mind........"

I'm not reading much into something a Patriots player tells the media. That being said, Cam would be worth a (very very small) contract just by sitting on the bench and being a mentor. That's what Hoyer was supposed to be last year.

Cam Newton thinks he is a starter. he's not coming back to be a taysom hill, a back up, or a tight end. if bill the GM thinks cam Newton and his 8 passing TDS and bay state league offensive skills are worthy of 16 games next year, I think it's time for Bill, Linda and the stupid dog with an Instagram account to call it a day and head off on a one way ticket to Nantucket

Possibly DMac had more interceptions in practice than ever before and kind of enjoyed that late in his career?

Pats fans weren't reading too much into Brady putting his house on the market
Or securing a "no franchise tag" clause in his retooled contract either.

Time will tell if the senior captain is simply being magnanimous toward Cam or he is assisting Bill by using his media platform to help prep Pats fans for Newton's predetermined return.

Recent history has taught us........

You don't know what talent is, clearly.

Cam threw 3-5 balls into the ground PER GAME it seemed like. YOU are the one who is smoking stuff with your blathering to this point. This idea that you have that UDFA players can't become Pro-Bowl/ALl-Pro receivers is as big of a joke as your other opinions. NEWTON played better in Carolina before his bum shoulder with receivers worse than Meyers, Harry, Byrd. You'd know this if you'd paid attention to his career at all.

Newton had 3 very bad games in the 2nd half. The Cardinals. The Rams. The Bills. He didn't complete over 60% of his passes in any of those games. In fact, he did so poorly that he didn't even 20 passing attempts in the final 2 games because he ended up getting pulled for Stidham.

Troy Brown, David, Patten, and Charles Johnson say "HI" and that you don't know what you are talking about.
Lol you really make this way too easy. Outside of Julian Edleman that was by far the worst receiving core Cam has ever had to play with and that is saying a lot. And it was by far one of the worst cast of WRs/TEs in the NFL for probably the last 10 years it was that bad. At least in Carolina Cam had Greg Olsen who was a perennial pro bowler/1k receiver. Who do the Pats have at TE? Exactly. Damiere Byrd was a ST back up in Carolina in NE he is the #1 WR is this a joke?

I mean you guys are so stacked on offense you got Qbs lining up out of the door just waiting to come play here with Meyers and Co. don't ya? Nope. You sure don't. You actually have people AVOIDING this place like a plague. Tom Brady had no business ever leaving the Pats he should have retired here, but the talent on offense is so bad he left you guys. Stafford put NE as the ONLY team he didn't want to be traded too I mean how many more examples do you need? No Qb that you guys could have brought in would have done much better in the same circumstances (month to learn the playbook, covid, talent deficient team) and your boy Bill knew that. He knew the only chance this team had at making the playoffs was Cam dragging this lifeless carcass that used to be the NE Pats to the playoffs. He couldn't do it and you people **** on him for it. Bravo.

FearNo1...: have you SEEN all Patriots games like we have done ? I doubt it...

FearNo.1 is actually Cam trying to explain why everyone else has caused him being the worst starting QB the NFL has seen since the merger

FearNo.1 must be Cam’s mom.

Cam was horrible. He can’t throw receiver open, throw passes in the ground 5 yards before the receiver. He is slow in his read. Can’t read a defense or Blitz. A RB needed to identify Blitz for him. Needed to throw a 50 yards Hail Mary one time, it fell short by 10 yards.

this year the guy had at least 10 performances that warranted a benching or an outright cut. If he backs i will seriously begin to question Bill’s sanity

Maybe a burner account, lol. But he’s speaking some facts while omitting others to talk up Cam. The receivers and TEs were the worst in the NFL. It was close with Philly until Jackson came back, then it wasn’t even close anymore after that. Cam is also done, and it starts in his legs. Too many shots to those over the years which created sloppy footwork in the pocket for a guy whose footwork was never the best in the first place. He’s simply not generating enough power from his legs and hips anymore. It’s obvious when watching him. Combine that with the shoulder, and you have a guy who looks like he’s throwing shot put and not a football.

Both were issues. You don’t have an offense as cheeks as our’s if the QB, WRs, and TEs weren’t all part of the problem. From Week 1 - Week 17, this was EASILY the worst skill position group that Bill has had since he’s been here.

Jimmy will available and back in NE.

Makes the most sense since he has worked with McDaniels and knows the NE system. Cam has awful passing mechanics and is always thinking run. Cam likely winds up in Cincinnati as a temporary guy until Burrows is ready to come back.

I mean that obviously goes against what you are saying though right? The dude threw the ball 368 times. Meaning his margin for error is a lot smaller than guys who threw for over 500+ times. Still completed 66% of his passes, meaning you are wrong.

But yea it's Cam's fault for trying to carry this garbage team. His bad. Good luck with being the jets for the next 20 years and to think you're already this salty! Just wait until the REAL losing starts
New board name Newton England? :)

Cam sucks. McCourty needs to stick to playing safety and leave personnel decisions to the Coach/Owner.

If they don’t get a QB first round in the draft, they probably will be stuck with either Cam or a guy they don’t think is better than him. Do the math

Tom Brady threw 40 TD’s last year. He had 24 in 2019 and that was when he had Edelman playing nearly all season and Gordon and Dorsett who were clear upgrades over what we have now. Clear upgrades. So yeah, part of it was Cam, but anyone thinking we don’t have a receiver problem that hurts QB’s is kidding themselves. Cam wasn’t great last year, but he looked a lot better with a healthy Edelman. The truth is he’s probably not near who he was, but last year he looked a lot worse than he would have on a team with acceptable targets.

I fear Fear#1 has turned into a pile of #2....
Have not seen CamToHarryGOAT around lately.

Maybe they will come back upon hearing this great news.

I wouldn't mind if BB told McCourty to STFU.

I still believe that Newton had a notable, common, and stubborn side effect of COVID: foggy brain. I said it last year; I know writers who had to walk away from the keyboard for months after their bout with COVID. They simply couldn't concentrate. I remember Newton even saying that things on the field looked "foggy" to him soon after his return.

As the season went on, he was missing reads, locking on receivers, and completely blowing blitz coverage and other defensive shifts.

I don't think that was all of his deficiencies, but I really think it made a difference.

Not to single out you two (there's a lot of this in this thread, and these were just the two most recent posts) but some of you all are taking McCourty's comments WAY too personally. From all accounts, Cam was a good leader and a very likeable teammate. These guys just battled through a tough season, not just because of the disappointing results, but because of the conditions they all had to play through. There's nothing wrong with Devin going to bat for his teammate, and it certainly does NOT indicate anything related to Cam's future here. Occam's Razor: Devin is pimping up his friend because it's what friends do for each other.

If he was actually working for Bill on this, he would be keeping his mouth shut. Everything positive that comes from Cam's teammates just increases his value on the open market. If anything, Devin is doing Cam a favor by helping him get a chance at a starting job with another team. There's no way Bill said, "Hey Devin, make sure you speak glowingly of Cam in the media so it's more expensive for us to bring him back. We wouldn't want the FANS to be worried about the decision."
