“One of”Eh. Not in 1982 or 1987. Yes for 1991. The teams he beat, the niners and the giants were also very talented.

If this is true then why does a top HC make 7 mil a year and a top QB 30-40 mil a year? I think your argument holds more water when talking about positions other than QB, but even those other top players make more than HC's, even though players come under a salary cap.I think you are doing a great disservice to Bill AND the game of football in this mindless comparison thing that people are now watching. Not withstanding that Brady is the GOAT at his position the fact remains that Brady could only affect about 15 players on offense, while Bill had an impact on all 53+ as well as personnel decisions. As great as Brady was, his impact on the Patriots was not nearly as large as Bills. Just one player playing one role on one side of the field.
BILL is te major reason that we have 6 titles and 9 superbowl appearances. Because FOOTBALL is a game where the T E A M truly IS greater than the individual player, even when that player is playing the most important position on the field. An single great player CAN truly affect a basketball team or a hockey team but there have been plenty of great individual players in the game of football who never sniffed playing on a great team.
Peyton Manning came into the league with great talent and was put in a situation where he had everything going for him. Playing in a dome, rules designed to enhance is team's offensive style, etc. And while Manning did win 2 titles, NEITHER was achieved because of anthing he did. It was only because the Pats ran out of gas in the over heated dome in Indy (and a few VERY questionable calls)that he got into the big game. And with Denver that last year, he was only there to manage the game. He was just along for the ride, riding the coattails of a great defense and a great RB.
The point is that even the best of QB's are hard pressed to carry their teams to championships. And although Brady was the GOAT playing the most important individual position in the game, he was STILL only O N E player.
Shame that its become low hanging fruit to blame Bill for 20 years of winning football and credit Tommy with all the credit. The mediots will be all over this narrative to get even for 20 yrs of him not being Bill Parcells (who IS in the great self promoters HOF, and NOT, thankfully, in the Pats HOF ) But that's another argument and another time.
And lets not forget that Tom's first year he WASN'T the GOAT. He was just a solid "game manager" In fact Tom didn't have his first 4000 yd season until 2005. Brady's place here was a miraculous piece of good fortune because he landed in a place that valued his limited skills. A place that valued his football processing skills over his athletic skills and designed an offense FOR those skills. BB saw how competitive Tom was, and how dedicated he was to being great. He also was patient enough to wait the 5 years (though winning 3 superbowls made it easier ) before he was ready to become the prolific passer we all now expect. Tom very easily could have been put into a system that saw him as the capable back up he was projected to be.
I have more about the narrative that BB didn't have a post Brady plan but I have damned errands to run.
Just as comparison. You can have the best roster as the Redskins did in 1991 with awful Rypien who won the chip now compare to Bill with Matt Cassell and the best roster in the league and a cake schedule and no playoffs.“One of”
Yeah it’s a completely different league. If you don’t have a QB playing at an elite level you can only win with a historically significant defense.Just as comparison. Sure. But if we are talking about coaching then what Gibbs did winning with 3 different QBs in an era of historically stacked teams makes him at the top IMO.Yeah it’s a completely different league. Even in that era it was impressive. Montana won 4 titles in the 80’s, Aikman, Young, Farve, Elway and Warner accounted for 8 titles in the 90’s.Sure. But if we are talking about coaching then what Gibbs did winning with 3 different QBs in an era of historically stacked teams makes him at the top IMO.
2018It started with money when Bill wouldn't give him a real deal in 2019.
He got carried to his only two SB titlesAnyone who tries to discredit either based on one season or just in general is an idiot.
The only thing we can all say is the people who claimed “Brady is a system QB and Bill can win with anyone as QB” are just plain wrong and the narrative can be put to bed.
I think Brady is the GOAT but I do not think he is the best to ever play the position. If that makes any sense. I actually think Peyton is the best QB of all time. Purely based on talent and I feel he is one of few QBs you can place on any franchise and he would be successful.
As I was putting together my list I didn't go back far enough to include Gibbs. I also only concentrated on QBs but noticed that if a successful HC didn't have a great QB then he had other top players on offense or defense.I would put Joe Gibbs at the top if we are judging success about winning without elite/great QBs. He won 3 SBs with average to below average QBs.
Carried is a bit much, but sure. Brady in a vacuum is the GOAT to me (stats, rings) but purely based on talent and eye test? It’s Manning for me.He got carried to his only two SB titles
Peyton Manning was statistically the worst starting QB the year he won in Denver. Check his 2006 playoff stats, Bon Sanders coming back changed that team.Carried is a bit much, but sure. Brady in a vacuum is the GOAT to me (stats, rings) but purely based on talent and eye test? It’s Manning for me.
eh... 2/3 were in strike seasons... kinda oddball scenarios in '82 and '87... 30 for 30 Year of the Scab is a good watch about the '87 replacement playersI would put Joe Gibbs at the top if we are judging success about winning without elite/great QBs. He won 3 SBs with average to below average QBs.
When healthy, Bob Sanders was to the Colts as LT was to the Giants.Peyton Manning was statistically the worst starting QB the year he won in Denver. Check his 2006 playoff stats, Bon Sanders coming back changed that team.
i wouldn’t give Peyton the eye test win either
Brady has now proven he is one of those QB's too. That was one of the last arguments against him - can he keep it going away from Bill? The answer so far is yes he can.Anyone who tries to discredit either based on one season or just in general is an idiot.

He was insanely good. When healthy, Bob Sanders was to the Colts as LT was to the Giants.
With him they were a top defense.
Without him they sucked.
Absolutely incredible the difference he made.
What are you going to tell us next, that Lebron is better than Jordan?Carried is a bit much, but sure. Brady in a vacuum is the GOAT to me (stats, rings) but purely based on talent and eye test? It’s Manning for me.
Yep and Sanders was healthy in 2007 and Dolts had the #1 scoring D in the NFL.He was insanely good.
Weird year for that team. Colts sucked on defense most of the regular season and Manning was carrying them hard. Then the playoffs came and he turned into a pumpkin and Bob Sanders and Adam Vinatieri said, “nope you aren’t ****ing this up again”
That's a useless vague retort but that aside... Brady won the division 17 out of 18 seasons so really why would anyone think he would win an 18th time?... Hmm... so actually the fact that you dismiss the notion out of hand says more about you but anyway..The fact that you think if Brady were the starter here in NE that we would be "cruising to another division title" tells me everything I need to know about you.
