The Biggest Reason We Are Starting A Rebuild

Who cares. They went to the SB 4 times in 5 years. But let's act like guys like Thuney and Mason don't exist.

go look at 5 years of drafting from teams that were drafting past #20 every year you'll see similair results
Which team do you want to look at? The teams that have been fairly consistently drafting in the 20s are probably Pittsburg, Baltimore, KC, Seattle, Green Bay? Let's look what they have done:

Pittsburg: drafted their entire offense, which is one of the most talented in the league, without spending a first round pick;
Baltimore: Lamar alone is more valuable than every pick we made combined in that time frame;
KC: Edwards-Helair, Kareem Hunt and Chris Jones are superstars or at least star in the making;
Seattle: Metcalf alone is better than anything we've done;
GB: Jaire Alexander, Aaron Jones and Devante Adams would walk into our starting lineup;

Which team would you consider doing worse than we did?

Biggest reason is drafting N'Keal Harry instead of AJ Brown.

If the Patriots get just one competent WR maybe they win the SB last year, or at least do better than an embarrassing 1st round exit.

Maybe if the Patriots do better Brady is still here. Instead of Brady leaving because he doesn't want to beg to throw passes to worst receiving corp in the NFL.

And if he doesn't leave how many additional wins do the Patriots have if they have an actual NFL calibre WR?

Where is Bill Belichick to tell Bill Belichick to zip it?

I dont know what he is trying to accomplish here.... Light a fire in their team? Explain to the press?

Sorry BB, to me sounds like excuses.

sounds like hes fed up with criticisms and just couldn’t keep quiet anymore. Agreed tho its unlike him, usually would’ve expected some bland “were just trying to field the best team that can win games” or something like that.

But this is what some of us have been saying, over and over and over. The Patriots kept kicking Brady's cap number down the road. They traded draft picks for players who could help now, not down the road. They traded for Sunu, gave Brown a big contract and kept a 42 year old qb. They understood this was the end of Brady's time and while he might play for a year or two or three more, that is all. So BB kept going. If the goal is to win the superbowl then the Patriots accomplished it, however there is a cost to running your team to win now, and it ends up being a time when you have to rebuild. Hopefully, it is short and in the end, they are back in a few years to being a top team.

So what? The would have won in 2018 with Jimmy G. They are in a rebuilt now, specifically because they don't have a QB. They would have one if Jimmy G wasn't traded.

That was Kraft's second biggest mistake, behind kicking Parcells out of town for Bobby Grier...
We talking about the same guy who’s going to miss multiple weeks again this season and more times than not can’t make it through a year without some sort of injury setback? There’s no doubt in your mind that he would’ve led us to a super bowl in 2018, going toe to toe with mahomes in the afc title game?

Of the recent mistakes the team has made talent wise I do not consider moving on from Jimmy G one of them. He appears to be a middle of the pack QB who is unfortunately quite fragile.

It sounds like a "get off my lawn" comment from BB. Hopefully the vultures will be satisfied and take their flesh this season so we don't have to listen to this next season.

Did the Pats have the most successful five year run in NFL history from 2014-2018? I think so.

I get the OP's point, and the early draft picks are bad, but there must've been a lot of good team building then otherwise.

Maybe he only does the whole "were just trying to field the best team..." stuff when he has a 12 win squad.

People are generally in agreement that the Bucs have a very good team loaded with talent, right? So let's take a look at how they have drafted since 2017 in comparison to the Pats. Now, I'm aware they have drafted much higher than the Patriots, but even if you completely eliminate their first round picks (and I'd argue they hit on all of those) and keep New England's they have drafted a whole lot better in that timeframe. Most of those guys are either starting for them or provide key depth, that's the difference, that's why the Patriots will need to rebuild and managed to both lack talent and have little cap space.

Nope. they will call for BB's head by end of the year. I am not even sure what spineless Bob will do after that. Boston media takes special pride in getting their coaches fired.

The biggest reason we are beginning a rebuild is the first picks we drafted from 2014 to now.

2014 - Dominic Easley (1st round): bust
2015 - Malcom Brown (1st round): below average
2016 - Cyrus Jones (2nd round): bust
2017 - Derek Rivers (3rd round): bust
2018 - Isiah Wynn (1st round): average
2019 - N’Keal Harry (1st round): looking like a bust
2020 - Kyle Dugger (2nd round): to be determined

We completely whiffed on 5 of our 7 first picks since 2014. Those are the picks you need to pick studs. Before 2014 Belichick nailed many of those first picks including Seymour, Mankins, McCourty, Jones, Warren, Mayo, Chung, Solder, and Collins.
I think we are starting a rebuild because law of averages of dominating the league for 20 yrs caught up with us. drafts are important and we didnt hit any. happens to a lot of teams. happened to us. eventually.

Posted this on the other thread but it needs to be put here as well. Unreal quote from Bill.

Ya, I listened to it online. Fauria is off Bill’s Christmas Card list when Fauria said it sounds like an excuse.
