Words on things I watched, read & heard

Is it time to start calling the nickel defense base?
Feel like the league has been here for minute. Passing is king and translates to points.

I love seeing the game change, history repeating itself in different shapes/sizes. Very curious to see how teams combat these mobile QB's in terms of pass rush/DL. Guys that kill the blitz and can pick up 10-20 yards by skill or just those unaccountable yards every team has to give up bc of the spacing in today's game.

Curious if teams forgo trying to get two big time edge rushers as opposed to a dominant push up the middle and contain, contain, contain outside. More or less how you wanna stop those stretch zone plays that everyone runs. Get vertical/penetration to disrupt and set a hard edge.

Who knows, I'm Sergeant Schultz and know nothing. Just like thinking about football and rambling.

Good for Houston. OB wasn't it and these teams that stick with these obvious bad fits are paying the price and wasting QBs that are good enough to win with and even can carry a team.

How about Easterby?!? Goes from player counselor to running a team.

Detroit needs to follow suit and fast. Detroit was like 9-7, 7-9, 11-5 before MP. He's won like 4 games. Had two good defensive performances and looks lost if we're being honest. Lost.

Gase should already be gone. MB shouldn't have been on the field. You don't put your future at risk. This after years of F'n around on offense.

I'm not sure I can imagine what kind of lies you tell yourself and delusion one is in to keep these guys on board.

Houston has to be kicking themselves. They gave Mia a top 5-10 pick and won't be picking until the 3rd I believe. Big holes on offense & defense. No leadership.

If I'm a team that is ready to win now. Legit QB away I'm calling GB, Atl, Det to see where they're at with their QB's. GB has shown the don't mind playing hard ball and have a line in the sand. The just pissed AR off with Love. You know they're thinking about life after AR.

I hope we keep our picks this year. We'll have multiple 3rd's & 4th's between ours and comp picks. Plenty of ammo for team looking to rebuild/reload.

For those among us too young to remember Sgt Schultz:

Way before my time but one of my favorite all-time shows! Such a great cast and a crazy cast. Crane was a nut haha.

you talking about his sex addiction? Or the homemade porn he filmed with his buddy and the women they picked up because he was a TV star? Or his unsolved murder?

Lots of Ha Ha in all that.

The average NFL play is about 5.5 seconds from snap to tackle/play dead-over. This play was about 5 seconds total. A lot going on, a lot to ask of an OL. This is literally why people say sacks are a QB stat. Actually not bad at all by Wynn considering we're running 4 F'n verts and the ball should be out ... quick! Not to mention like 10-13 seconds left on the clock! No timeouts! Again OL hate this **** more than anything.

Just an awful play and looked shook there. Deer in headlights. Hoyer is supposed to be the safe bet. 2 bad sacks/fumble. INT. You won't win any games like that. Two trips into the RZ. Nothing. Sailed passes. Stidham wasn't much better but if Hoyer never had a chance tonight what were Stidham's coming in when things were already bad? Day of travel after no significant reps, for either guy.

Neither has a feel for the pocket. When to step up, slide, give up on a play. No clock in their head. Again after 3 seconds you need to make a decision. By not doing so you're killing your offense. No peripheral vision. Again no feel for the situation. Sometimes you don't need to look to hear a car is coming. You have other sense and good QB's can feel a broken pocket and more times than not can salvage the play.

Stidham was bad but you have to go with him going forward in a situation like this. You know absolutely everything there is to know about Hoyer. I understand he had no prep but again we've this from Hoyer so many times before. Even if Stidham is awful for a game or two. You have to try. At worst cut both and find someone who is better next year.

The "forward pass" call was one of the worst calls of the year by far. Not even close. Just another gut punch, brutal.

How you stop that play is beyond me.

Two missed easy would be INT's. I mean those are two of the easier picks JC/DMC will ever have. Especially DMC, right in his hands. Beginning of the game. More body punches.

Let's not forget this team traveled to KC the day of! Not easy, almost impossible with no time to give your new starter at QB. Not to mention multiple OL go down/don't play.
This was the week/game from hell. I can absolutely see Bill smoking through his ears tonight but player/coach, you have to let this one go for the reasons stated above. Plus if/when you play KC again it could be a totally different animal. Between Mahomes, his weapons, OL, Andy ... This offense can do anything at any time. No use in worrying about this game that was doomed from the start.

Defense played well enough in general, very good for playing KC & the cards they were dealt! I have to watch the tape again. I was a bit distracted with stuff (old dog having issues) here so didn't get a clean watch.

Harris - coming out he did everything really well but wasn't great anywhere. I'd agrue decision making/vision were his best attributes along with contact balance. No nonsense runner. Patience at the first level and can set up his 2nd level reads but not a home run threat. No long speed. Deliberate runner, not much bounce or shake but good footwork, again contact balance & toughness. He won't go down easy. Can get you tough yards. Think we saw a little of all that tonight. I'd like to see him get a few passes next game. He's more than capable. Really no big weaknesses - tighten up his approach in pass pro but he's actually really good there. Can always improve his hands/placement in that area. He looked good and it's a good problem to have for a running team.

I thought Justin Herron & Onwenu were very good. Neither looked out of place at all. They really weren't helped all that much with the QB play but both stood out in good ways. Missing Jones was huge. He's probably the second best or third best IDL besides Donald. Him and Clark can be a terror together. KC really turned around their defense all together. Credit Spags. Got more athletic at LB. DB's that can actually play at an NFL level helps.

But I thought our OL played well in a rough watch. They tossed a few different rushers at Wynn and for the most part he more than held his own. If Hoyer takes a shot at the all go's in the end zone or throws it out of bounds that's a highlight for Wynn and at least 3 points for us.

We need to keep Thuney. Make it happen, we have the money and he's consistently been a top tier player on offense. Durable & no problems anywhere else. Pay the man and continue to build the best OL you can. Look around the league. We need to keep at it.

Wise continues to get pressure and Jennings added a few I believe?

I thought the secondary was very good. Like really good. Bill can absolutely give Mahomes fits in terms of looks - holding onto to the ball but not let up any huge rushes by Mahomes. I know he had one good chunk run but 8/28 ain't bad. The key is not making him pay - he tossed a few stinkers but we made him hold the ball / limited the big play for the most part. Lots of man-match/hand offs in the secondary. Great level play at the los (making sure you don't make locked off by switches/rubs). And great job taking away the underneath but esp MOF/deep MOF.

Again key there besides the obvious (missed INTs) we have to hit/sack 15 more. We got some decent pressure but you have to finish. Not finishing against the greats and it'll always come back to hurt you. We should know that after watching greatness for so long.

We're not in bad shape. Plenty of positives.

1)We literally had anything & everything go wrong for this game. Starting QB gone a half hour before the game. Leave the day of. Hoyer absolutely ****s the bed & Stidham had no chance, especially when you look at when he came in. Too late.

2)We turned the ball over multiple times and missed easy TO's on the defensive side.

3)Awful calls/again that's points off the board in normal circumstances

4)We made Mahomes hold the ball at least as long as the Chargers game I watched last week so that's a plus and again a clear indication that Bill can slow down this attack. This is big bc Bradley plays Mahomes as well as anyone. Add Bill to that list.

Point is we can play with anyone in the league (talk about burying the headline - I can't write for ****) but have to finish every game coming up.

Seattle & KC are two of the 3-5 best teams in the league by almost anyone's standards, no? Seattle was a coin flip game on the road and we played KC tough and made it a close game for 90% of the game with our 2nd/3rd string QB's.

A healthy Cam & OL and this game is a lot different! Maybe we still lose, Mahomes & this defense are that good but the game is a lot different we all know that.

We should be on a mission from now on if we weren't before. This team is good enough. Before the year I had a few *wildcard* games and Denver was one but obviously Lock is a wildcard himself, hurt right now. Still though we can absolutely beat them, SF & its all about Buffalo. Beat Buffalo twice and we should be a playoff team. Huge task but it's almost a certainty it's going through them at this point. For weeks I've mentioned how Daboll in his Greg Roman-zone but he's been tremendous so far. I mean he has all the pieces he likes but he's killing it. Pacing, timing to play calling is great. I say pacing & timing bc there's so much clean-crisp motion/pre snap looks & play action. Buffalo can spread you out 4 wide or run on you but they go 3/4 wide a lot.

Again Diggs & Hopkins have been great so far for Murray & Allen. Both needed that intermediate threat that can make adjustments-win at the catch point and stretch the field for 15-25 yard chunks. Allen has been playing great too but he has a machine around him. From weapons, OL, coaching .. It's all rolling. Take care of business, we won't see much better than Sea/KC and beat Buffalo X's two. That's our seasonn. On to Denver ...

No, was just speaking to how F'd up Crane was. That's why I called him a "nut".

I'm drawing a blank...Who's MB?

I was a single-digit midget for most of the show's run on CBS, bur I remember watching it with my (slightly) older brother & our dad...no remote control, rabbit-ear antennae, black & white set with vacuum tubes, the whole lot...

Mekhi Becton, he was hurt before the game. Holding arm, obvious pain in game and could've been seriously hurt. Should have never been on the field.

It was simple, not for everyone but I love it.

Hogan's Heroes was a comedy spinoff of the famous film Stalag 17 starring William Holden. The creators of H.H. got sued and won in court but it's quite obvious...a Sgt Schultz in the movie drama and the TV show. Just goes to show you, screenplays are like football plays...you never know how the ref will call it.

Herron & 66 Lead Power/Power strong

Wino playing with leverage, efficient, tight steps. Easiest path to the QB. Good leverage but gets a lil lower after his punch/rip. He's a player. Bow about Wise's hands. Very active and heavy! He's put in work for sure, been playing well.

and it was against Erik Fisher wasn'it so pretty good play there..

I’d like to see what Zuber is capable of, besides jet sweeps, end-arounds etc. He seems to display very good speed/vision with the ball in his hands. Hopefully, we can see him run a few routes, catch some screens & see his YAC ability. Perhaps even as PK/KR...

Maybe give a few of those short passes to Zuber since he has some juice/wheels. We desperately need one of these young guys to step up and take over a role.
