Sanu is Sanu... he's always been average/good. He's big, mobile, strong, has solid hands and not that fast... he's Jakobi Meyers with more experience. Keep in mind Meyers was an UDFA.

BB was showing reverence to his star QB and trying to keep him happy after AB became a dumpster fire.

Don't tell me BB didn't do everything he could to give Tom what he wanted; AB, Sanu, #1 pick WR... it's garbage.

I hear you: Sanu used to be "big, mobile, strong, etc." But then I used to be a second-tier studmuffin with luxuriant locks and boyish charm. Alas though, neither my nor Muhammed's former glories have been significant for quite some time. I mean, that avatar over there is an actual photo of me.

Yes our WR's are inexperienced however I dont think they are as bad as some think. I would suggest if we can pick up an experienced WR (who does not have to be an annual pro bowler) who can stretch the field and cause concern in the opposing secondary , then that will give the others time and build their game day confidence. I think the worse case scenario is a game against the dolphins where the scheme fails or there are drops etc .....I hope that BB and McD have a game plan to suit and mix things up. I do think we can put up a decent score and win
If we have already have a WR who can stretch the field on the roster now why worry about picking up an experienced WR who is a JAG not a Pro Bowler? It sounds like Ross or Byrd or even Gunner may bring that ability, why does it have to be some player who already has miles on the clock?

if it’s because you want someone who will “cause concern in the opposing secondary” I’d rather have them be complacent and burned than concerned and at the top of their game. Under the radar is okay.

That avatar has some pretty luxuriant flowing locks.

oops I guess those are ears. My bad.

The Patriots have never drafted a HOF WR in the Brady era.

J Montana - Jerry Rice,
T Bradshaw - Lynn Swann
P Manning - Marvin Harrison
J Kelly - Andre Reed
T Aikman - Mike Irvin
K Warner - Issac Bruce

How do you have the GOAT and not have at least 1 HOF stud WR? Edelman is likely, but he was drafted as a QB and developed into a WR.

this is an excellent point! Brady did have a future hall of fame tight end though.

Edelman ain’t making the HOF bruh. I love Edelman, but that would be homerism to the tenth power.

But seriously, let's not over value a 2nd rounder in a future draft. The idea was to try to get better in 2019 while we still had a core group of vets led by TB12. At the time of the trade we had a solid record, the pick was always going to be a late 2nd rounder.
If the pick was always going to be a 2nd-rounder, then it should've gone to Denver for Sanders...Horse Mouth & Bill have traded multiple other times; he would've taken that offer if Bill had made it...which he apparently never did, for some reason...

Yep...Any chance he had of the HOF ended with that drop vs the Titties in January...HOFers don't do that...

I probably cant explain any better but would assume that we are dependent on others roster cut downs to try and improve our WR depth , is it too late in the roster rules to still trade for someone ?? Sanu did not work out for various reasons but I would hope BB still has some names on the wall !
Still hoping that we can find someone

That is the thing I don't get with how people say we could have used that pick this year.

Are we actually going to pretend that it was a bad idea to try improving a team with a great defense that was unbeaten at that point in time and had Brady as their QB ? The end result was an unmitigated failure mostly because Sanu got injured after the first real game* and then an offseason later -- post ankle surgery -- couldn't elevate himself over JAGs in camp.

To me the basic decision making behind the trade still makes sense and given the situation we were in I'd do it again in a heartbeat. The outcome has not much to do with the quality of decision making. Sometimes uncertainty and randomness just derail good plans.

* Yeah he had a cameo a week before but the Ravens game was the first one he had full prep week for.

We have been through this a couple times. Beat writers have been through this a couple times. We know the reasons:

a) they were interested in Sanu for a while and wanted to trade for him before last year's draft
b) Sanders was coming off a major injury and there was no time to test drive him like e.g. DT during the offseason
c) Sanders had an expiring deal, Sanu had another year on his contract

You might disagree with some or even all of them. But lets cut out this "for some reason" bs because that is just being dishonest.

Even if they drafted one Bill would not have paid HOF WR salary after the rookie contract.

are the patriots just bad at picking/drafting receivers? or is this system just too difficult? now watch sanu be productive on another team

And the Pats suffered for it.

In Super Bowl 46, mental wizard Ocho Sinko was still lining up wrong. Gronk got hurt vs the Ravens and was basically a wounded decoy that a slow Giants LB could cover.

Bad at picking WRs and RBs.

Vereen and White are exceptions, but Maroney was a doozy and Sony is make or break. I would not sign Sony to a new contract today. Would anyone else?

Doesn't seem like a surprise to me. Bye

Technically not a receiver Rob Gronkowski is the only HoF worthy pass catcher the Pats have picked up in the draft in brady's 20 years here...

Welker, via trade, was on track for the hof with Brady but started a little too late in New England, and the put his foot in his mouth and got shipped out...
