Stings because there were a lot of us that thought a 2nd rounder for him was way too much compensation... the injury was just bad luck, but then to not even be able to make the team the following year after having an entire training camp?

cant afford to flush 2nd rounders down the toilet like that... horrendous trade, but its funny to see people back peddling to defend it still

They needed serious help last year at WR. The Brown experiment didn't pan out. They needed help. Sanu was an overpay - no argument from me. But that's what you sometimes need to do. They took a shot, and it didn't work out. Not every move BB makes is going to work, even as great as he is at this (and there's never been anyone better). Doesn't mean Sanu is a crap player, like some people here are implying.

I'm gonna laugh when Brady is playing in the Super Bowl and you and BB are home sucking your thumbs after going sub .500.
I am not sure what you are talking about. I am pulling for Brady...then again I dont think you know what you are talking about either...

In a bit of a surprise, Sanu was informed that he is being released.

He seemed to have a decent camp, running great routes and not having a lot of drops..

Unless BB thinks he's going to need the extra $6.5M next year to get people signed, it's a bit of a head scratcher, all things considered.

Sanu brought:
- Sure Hands
- Run Blocking
- Great Route running
- Height for the Red Zone.
Let me correctly rewrite this for you:
-Hamfisted paws
- subway turnstile
-no routes, old and slow
- big size, meaning a load that can't get open

Thank you.

Homer is going to throw this early morning thought out there. Isn’t it possible that Sanu’s release means the receiving corps is better than we think?

I am a "homer" and a "positive thinker" as well. 1. Let's hope Gunner, Ross and Meyers are all real NFL wide receivers, and Jeff Thomas is added to the group next year after a rookie year on the practice squad. 2. On top of that let's hope Asiasi and Keene are both going to work out. 3. On top of that let's hope the new DEs and LBs work out too. If all three are true, we will be in great shape for the next few years - a quick rebuild in 1 year. BB is not signing any veteran free agents so we can hope that is an indication that the coaching staff likes all of the new guys.

Saying that why is BB holding onto the salary cap money? Is he waiting until after cut downs this Saturday and then will sign some veterans? Or is he waiting for 2021?

I remember that last year I thought BB had a plan at TE which turned out to be "false trust". The TEs were a dumpster fire in 2019 and we needed two draft picks in 2020. So maybe all of my hope and wishes are not going to come true .

Maybe in 2017. You cant be seeing the same things we've been seeing.

If he brought those things, he wouldnt have been cut. He's done being a role player in this league

Yes our WR's are inexperienced however I dont think they are as bad as some think. I would suggest if we can pick up an experienced WR (who does not have to be an annual pro bowler) who can stretch the field and cause concern in the opposing secondary , then that will give the others time and build their game day confidence. I think the worse case scenario is a game against the dolphins where the scheme fails or there are drops etc .....I hope that BB and McD have a game plan to suit and mix things up. I do think we can put up a decent score and win

I thought BB was waiting until next year to spend, but maybe you are right. Maybe the Pats thinks signing vets post-cutdown is the new competitive advantage.

I thought the Pats TE plan was a trade, not trying to squeeze the last ounce of life out of the ghost of Ben Watson.

I wouldn't bet against Sanu returning after the final cut downs. He has zero dead cap money, so cutting him and saving the 6.5 mil has no downside if they want to re-sign him at a much lower rate.

I would bet against it. I think if Sanu was interested in sticking around for cheap, he would have offered to redo his contract when BB called him in yesterday. In fact, this is the standard, “release ahead of final cuts to give you a chance to find a new team before the huge wave of players arrives,” that BB has been doing to veterans for years. None of those guys returned. Sanu thinks he can still get good money, certainly better than what BB would be willing to pay.

I was supportive of Sanu as much as anyone but name 1-2 beat guys who were at the practices and then actually said he had a decent camp. Reiss even had him off his 53 projection before any news of his release started to leak.

Lazar said at some point early in the camp that he might be the best/cleanest route runner and he got to participate in the QB side sessions but nobody as far as I recall actually said at some point that Sanu had a great day.

Now whether its clever to go into the season with Edelman and a lot of question marks I don't know. But unfortunately it looks like Sanu was not significantly better than those question marks through camp.

I thought Sanu's comments after the cut inferred maybe the team hadn't even asked him to take a cut to stay.

Hence my saying Decent camp and mentioning the route running separately.

I hope that McDaniels has a better Goal Line offense where he uses Asiasi, Keene, Harry, and Johnson in the Passing game. Otherwise, it's even more of a head scratcher.

What experienced WR do you think we can acquire?

He did have off season ankle surgery so those who say BB may bring him back later may be right.

Took them long enough, the Sanu experiment was a failure.
Failure is a good term to describe what went on here, rather than disaster or horror.

We overpaid in a seller's market hoping a vet WR would help our inconsistent offense, yet the guy got injured.

Now he's getting cut, but his high salary always made that a risk even if he was solid last year.

Add to this it was the first time in a while the Pats were picking in the middle of the round, so its not like before when they traded away a pick that was in the 60-64 range, they ended up trading pick #47!
Actually no, it was #55. ATL's own pick was #47, our #55 went to ATL then they traded it to BAL.

But seriously, let's not over value a 2nd rounder in a future draft. The idea was to try to get better in 2019 while we still had a core group of vets led by TB12. At the time of the trade we had a solid record, the pick was always going to be a late 2nd rounder.
