If you got an hour I recommend giving this a listen. Curran, Michael Holley, and the author of the new Dynasty book, Jeff Benedict, discuss the Pats and the dynamic between Kraft, Brady, and Belichick.

Benedict had in person interviews with Kraft and Brady and relayed questions to Belichick through email so he had access to all 3 for the book.

A few things I found interesting is that Krafts relationship with Brady is family-like while his relationship with Belichick is business-like. All the way back to the contract negotiations in 2010 Brady was thinking his time may be up in New England. In a meeting with Robert and Jonathan at Krafts Cape Cod house they had a gentleman’s agreement that if Brady’s relationship with Belichick became strained that the Krafts would let Brady walk. Finally, when Brady finally did leave and called Belichick from Krafts house to let him know his decision Belichick told Brady “you’re the best QB ever and even a better person.”

No secret that Belichick is not a warm and fuzzy guy. I think he deliberately tries to keep a distance from everyone in the organization so that he doesn't let his feelings for others get in the way of business. Very much like the military where commanders and the people they are in charge of don't fraternize in case the commanders have to send them into battle.

Yup. I agree with you that he takes a military approach, and it obviously has worked. I was listening to Christian Fauria and he said that Belichick is a lot different with players after they retire. We’ve seen guys like McGinnest, Milloy, and Bledsoe welcomed back into the fold. Fauria also said that he can’t recall even 1 time Belichick giving Brady any sort of praise in a team meeting during his time there. After all the wins/great plays/clutch throws Belichick never gave Brady a compliment. That’s one of the things that made Brady special. He’s about the only superstar player that could handle that and wasn’t coddled.
