I don’t think any Pats fans are rooting for Cam over Stidham or vice versa. We just want the guy that gives us our best chance to win and is teachable under a very challenging coach
This is the bottom line. I don't care who the QB is, I just want them to win. I think even if Cam wins the starting job, Stidham will get to play some, due to Cam's history issues.

Who and how?
Any scenario like this involved trading up. People would have freaked out at the amount of capital that would cost. Especially with Brady on the roster

Patriots could start Nathan Peterman and they still won’t end up with a record low enough to get a pick that lets them draft Lawrence.
Don’t be foolish

Oh stop. We could have Lamar Jackson for nothing. We could have had Jordan Love for nothing. We could have bundled our plethora of picks this year to move anywhere we wanted but Bill drafted NO ONE. I mean how else do you think you find a franchise QB? In the draft. Not sure why Bill went brain dead at the most important position after drafting a QB every other year that we had Brady. My only conclusion is that he really thought Brady would stay on crap deals forever.

It isn’t. This team is not a 1-15 team - what it would probably take to get the first overall pick- in any way shape or form.

Never say never.

I also think if Stidham wins the starting job and if Cam can be persuaded to stay, Cam will get to play some, due to Stidham's inexperience that will likely manifest itself as being unable to anticipate taking a big hit. For example, like the sack/body slam that injured JG during Tom's suspension.

Most all NFL teams need two legit QBs. TB12 gave us the luxury of avoiding that, but we are having a reentry into the real world now.

Exactly. There’s nothing to suggest he’s any more than a Mallett/Hoyer/Etling type. All options were on the table

Only two rookie QBs under Belichick have thrown more than one TD in the preseason: Garoppolo (5) and Stidham (4).

@Ian, please awared @primetime some award for this around, are you sure he is not BB?
edit @sb1 was advocating for signing Newton, his post does not read so i think, based on taking just his post.
Hey this is just history in real time and it is only for fan. I hope no one uses this to insult anybody. Any of you want a redo? Cam has not made the team yet but just bringing him here is huge. It has surprised me as well as I did not see it at all. BB is incredible. Just when you think you know the man, he comes at you with logic.

So Ray was innocent.

That’s great. I’m so proud of him for doing that in a game nobody tries in. He had one NFL experience in about as easy a situation as it gets, and he failed. That doesn’t mean he’s trash. But there is no reason to believe he deserved investment. Anecdotal evidence in games that don’t matter are useless

Looking at Cam Newton's stats his average typical season over 8 playing seasons is:

- 3600 passing yards
- 24 TD
- 14 INT
- 600 rushing yards
- 7 rushing TDs

If he can lower his annual INT and improve his passing % to 65% this would be incredible.

.

Does Lamar Jackson help in 2018?

This year, is Jordan Love really enough of an improvement over Stidham, especially given that Love was playing Mountain West teams rather than SEC teams, to justify a first-round pick?

I don't know why anyone would assume Love is a big upgrade on Stidham.

Yes we could have reached on a QB who was projected as the 5th best QB while we still had Brady instead of getting one of the best lineman in the draft

Via Reiss, the 2017 quote from Belichick on Cam:
“When you’re talking about mobile quarterbacks, guys that are tough to handle, tackle, can throw, run, make good decisions -- I mean, I would put Newton at the top the list,” Belichick said in 2017 prior to a game against the Panthers.

“Not saying that there aren’t a lot of other good players that do that, but I would say, of all the guys we play or have played recently in the last couple of years, he’s the hardest guy to deal with. He makes good decisions, he can run, he’s strong, he’s hard to tackle. He can do a lot of different things, beat you in a lot of different ways. We saw that in the game down there in ’13, so I would put him at the top of the list. Not saying the other guys aren’t a problem, because they are, but he’s public enemy No. 1.”

Winning the afc east has become easier.

An Open Letter to Cam Newton

June 29, 2020

Dear Cam,

Welcome to "Beantown". This is home to many past sports heroes like Bill Russell, Fred Lynn, Mo Vaughn, Paul Pierce, and Troy Brown.

First, let me apologize for many of the negative things that have transpired in the past with great men like Adam Jones, and Torii Hunter. I speak on behalf of white people in Patriots Nation in personally apologizing for being a part of the great problem, and we will all strive to do better at being the change we wish to see in the world.

I hope that you will find your stay with the New England Patriots to be pleasant, and most importantly, know that we root for our players through thick and thin. Whether or not you score touchdowns or win games, know that you are appreciated.

Patriots Nation is as diverse as it gets; we have fans all over the world in various countries like Africa, Nigeria, and the great People's Republic of Cuba.

For now, though, it's time to dance!!! I am greatly looking forward to doing the endzone wiggle when you score your first touchdown (if you do - if you don't, it's okay because you are always welcome in New England no matter what.)

With Great Sincerity,
Patriots Nation!!!

PS Never read the Patsfans game day thread. It will frighten you.

Winning the afc east has become easier.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

Newton has a very large uphill battle to make the team, let alone be the starting QB.

Hoyer has multiple years in the system. Edelman is the only receiver he's got experience with.

Stidham has a year in the system and supposedly learned the play-book extremely quickly. So much so that it might have been one of the reasons the Patriots felt they could move on from Brady. Stidham has practice experience with all the receivers except the rooks.

Newton is a low-risk, high reward signing. He's coming from a completely different system. He's put himself behind the curve waiting so long to sign. He'll have about a month until Training camp to learn as much of the terminology and play-book as possible.

Newton is coming in with a stigma of not being entirely a "Team" player. We've seen how Belichick can be with people who draw undo attention to themselves (Welker - Toegate). If Newton comes in and buys in to the "Patriot Way" and "Do YOUR Job" while learning the playbook, then he'll be successful here and earn himself a nice contract next year. Otherwise, he'll be gone before Training Camp is over and the Patriots will be none the worse.
